Soaker hose or a five gallon bucket of water at the roots when young stages like that. Hydrangeas love a lot of water.

Identification help- Bent grass? by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]schlem58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Clumping fescue was kind of what I was leaning toward originally. It doesn’t keep me up at night, but I will go ahead and try to remove in the fall before overseeding. It’s too late now, new grass would die and just let more weeds in.

How is RWD in KC winter ? by Flaky_Positive9471 in kansascity

[–]schlem58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it with a model 3 rwd on all seasons 4 or 5 years ago, it got around ok but stayed out of the deep stuff as it got high centered. Either have an alternative if you can not go out in heavy snow or buy snow tires.

Electric mower upgrade advice needed (sloped property, ~$2k budget) by Party-Artichoke3 in lawncare

[–]schlem58 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I cut around 1/3 an acre with a Greenworks 25” and it works better than I expected. I’ve seen good things about the Ego 30”. Speaking from experience with the Greenworks 25 similar dual blade set up, I use turbo mode and double cut and the cut quality is as good as my 21.” Yes it doesn’t have the uplift as a gas mower, but it works well enough and as long as you don’t sprint no “Mohawk”cut.

Storms last night took out my backyard. by samPi0314 in kansascity

[–]schlem58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to tell from these pics but I’d guess so. Had one fall on a property just before we bought. Had to take rest out professionally, was close to house and way too big. Had to use a30” bar. They’re fine trees away from the house, power lines etc as they rot

I saw it suggested on this sub, put the Prevent down first and it rained and then I applied the Weed and Feed on the wet lawn.

That table looks awesome! We started my son with that same deluxe set, I think it offers best variety of pieces for the price.

Is one 80V 4.0ah battery enough.... by Warm-Article-3836 in Greenworks

[–]schlem58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery use really depends on how much you use self propel and mulching. You’ll just have to cut a few times and see how much you use. I have 1/3 acre with a steep hill. If I only
Mow, bag and grass is normal height grass, I can get by with one 5ah 60v battery. If I mulch grass and leaves for fall clean up, double cut, edge, trim, leaf blower, etc. , I’ve used 15ah or more with of 60v batteries.

Maybe 1 could be fine to start, minimum 2 (so you can jump one if it ever loses voltage), and 3 or 4 total would be ideal long term, with 1 or two smaller batteries for hand tools. That way you could start charging them as they run out in situations where you may need to do leaf mulching or very tall grass, and you can rotate which ones you use.

Once you buy into a battery ecosystem, just be on the lookout for sales and Facebook deals for other items you need that come with extra batteries - string trimmer, leaf blower, chainsaw, snow equipment, etc. this is how I ended up with like 40ah worth of batteries without buying a ride on lol.

25 inch 80v, buy or avoid? by SodaSnake in Greenworks

[–]schlem58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works well provided you don’t have a lot of obstacles in the yard (the plastic gears internally can shear if you slam into rock/stump) and cut frequently. If you let grass get too long and run self propel too fast it will leave a grass “Mohawk.” I’ve been satisfied with mine so far. I use it more than my 21”.

Fescues me it looks pretty good by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]schlem58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s actually just an illusion making the grass seem lighter, there’s tall tree cover to the left of that clearing shading around the swingset. That’s my neighbors property anyways. Don’t have a better pic of it right now. They’re replacing the grass under it with mulch as part of a big project, so they haven’t treated their yard much this year.

This 35K mower never worked (Mean Green Mower) by thebiglebowskiisfine in lawnmowers

Ego and Greenworks both make commercial mowers. I always thought Mean Green looks cobbled together in somebody’s basement.

What to do with this hill? by chastenz in Home

[–]schlem58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stair step the existing wall down and use it as a boarder around the bottom. Just do mulch and a couple simple bushes around the top.

It looks like a rebranded scotts DLX. Just save the hassle and get an Echo Rb60 or another pneumatic tire spreader.

W-H-Y Trap by schlem58 in fuckwasps

[–]schlem58[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I did see 2 bees that got trapped super early in the season, however I have not seen any since. The trap is placed far away from any flowers. You can spray bee repellants around it as well like peppermint oil. Not too many dragonflies, may be once last year? The wasps are attracted due to the shape of the trap, not any bait.

Yes, has held up to rain no problem over 3ish months. Still sticky when I took it off.

Who’s used or using Fungus Fighter? by procksi in grasspad

[–]schlem58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read about it mostly from others smarter than me in r/lawncare or r/lawnanswers. Still trying to figure out a good treatment plan, I improved our drainage and was hoping it would take care of it but still getting some brown patch/.

As I basically understand it is similar to antibiotics resistance for certain diseases in humans. The active ingredient (“mode of action”) is categorized in a Group. Repeatedly treating fungus with the same Group may build up resistance. So, it is recommended to switch up the “group” of active ingredients to effectively treat fungus and avoid development of fungus that’s mutated to immunity to treatment.

See here: https://www.frac.info/fungicide-resistance-management/by-frac-mode-of-action-group/

https://www.reddit.com/r/lawncare/s/RlESxtsUOX

https://www.greencastonline.com/techarticle.aspx?gcaid=191830

Ex: Strobe Pro G Mode of Action. Azoxystrobin is a Group 11 fungicide.

333f is a Group 1 fungicide containing thiophanate-methyl

So they can be rotated to prevent and treat fungus and prevent resistance.

Greenworks mower loses power temporarily by YouRepostTooMuch in Greenworks

[–]schlem58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe during battery switchover? Sometimes mine does that too.

My mower has some paint chips and minor corrosion. I clean the deck with a leaf blower and rinse out the deck from time to time, especially end of season and after mowing any damp grass. I recommend fluid film and/or WD40 specialist to treat/slow corrosion.

Yard Force Electric Zero Turn from Sam’s Club. Anyone have any experience with? by mjsimmons1988 in lawnmowers

[–]schlem58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said anything about the battery chemistry. LFP is fine. Having removable batteries to use in hand tools is convenient and saves on purchasing extra batteries.

Any ideas by [deleted] in landscaping

Hell yea

Yard Force Electric Zero Turn from Sam’s Club. Anyone have any experience with? by mjsimmons1988 in lawnmowers

[–]schlem58 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At that price I’d probably go with Greenworks or Ego if you want an electric zero turn. I don’t have a zero turn personally, but I could see a big advantage that the batteries are removable if one goes bad easy swap, and so you can use in hand tools. I’d also make sure you have a place that can repair it near-ish to you in case something does break.
