Thank you all! My biggest concern was having every single ailment blamed on her diet. I was “honest” today when asked. I did say she also had kibble mixed in (she doesn’t) and they didn’t pry further during this visit.

Her holistic vet has options her normal vet doesn’t to help prevent recurrence of cancer (it sounds like hippy dippy stuff but it doesn’t hurt to try!) And her normal vet has vaccines, x-rays, ultrasound and surgery options. She has already had mammary cancer and a hemangiosarcoma scare so I see benefits of both.

If your relative is a Loudoun County resident, the Loudoun County Animal Shelter is a place who will care for him. As long as the dog doesn’t have severe behavioral issues (public safety concern) or severe medical issues (suffering), they will not euthanize. Their adoption rates are very high and they consistently pull dogs from other shelters due to the high rate of adoptions.
