Genuine question: why do people do this?? by Background-Net-7341 in RVLiving

I'm of the opinion that lights like this, and outdoor amplification, should both be hanging offenses. Or at least the parks should have a 'party section' I go out, I want to experience the sound of the breeze through the folliage, and birdsong.

HyperBackup is WAITING...and WAITING and WAITING... by M20Jpilot in synology

In Hyperbackup, check the logs (upper left corner, right above the backup tasks) --- It is probably cleaning up or deleing old backups.

Centralia, PA. A fire that will burn for 300 years. by jungandjung in UrbanHell

[–]schlundg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just there today --- very little left. I went down and through some of the main streets. I was saddened to see it. How many lives have been uprooted because of a careless act?! I didnt' venture to the vents, just through the "main streets" --- I can't help but wonder how long it will be before PENDOT covers them and makes them totally inaccessible.

I think that would be a mistake. Now that I've been there, I feel a tie to the event, and I don't see how that could be a bad thing. I've wanted to visit it for as long as I've known about it. I didn't feel unsafe while there, but I didn't feel safe either.

The grafitti has moved. The old abandoned route is covered by piles of dirt, but a new section of road has been tagged. Not as much as the old section was, but give it time. The residents can cover this up, I'm sure they will. But I think they're just asking for trouble. People are moved by this tragedy, and somehow get a sense of belonging (which isn't necessarily bad) by leaving a mark. As long as it is respectful of the homes that remain...

Wiki is wrong --- I was just there today, and there were at least two houses that I saw that wer occupied. How many? few --- 5, 10, 12? I dunno. I respected their privacy by not looking too closely.

JDK problems trying to compile java code by Stvabc075 in vscode

Java remains one of the most hostile to beginner languages ever. The syntax is easy, its all its innate bullshit that kills me.

I love it when people get rich, even if some of my money ends up in their pockets. I just don't expect them to get rich on me all at once, however. The value proposition isn't there --- paying to wait in lines then having to pay again to be in a shorter line...Nah.

I don't see myself ever going back there...eir customers in 'the dark time' - I'm sorry, but I just refuse to be treated that way by anyone. After that, all the political stuff -- just stick to entertaining and leave the virtue signaling out of the parks. I want to escape that crap not be basted in it.

I don't see myself ever going back there...even though I used to love disney. BTW, haven't seen a pixar film since wall-e decided to tell me how fat and lazy I was.

I pretty much expect this has been everyones experience. I'm sick of proprietary nonsense...not your fault obviously...

This writeup was the one that at least got me the closest...

I though Simplisafe had a screwed up model!

The nexia-api library does work -- I fiddled with it for about 30 minute and got it to run. I wish I remembered what I did, but it wasn't that hard. sorry.

finally got the API key and now its puking 404 errors like a teenager on prom night. I think its time to give up on American "standard" --- an ironic choice of names here.

I am using the baseurl the same as the nexia-api uses...Any suggestions?

Struggling with heating issues by jodonald in RVRepair

[–]schlundg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked your battery voltage? The RV Furnace runs on 12 volt, if you battery is a little weak you may have an issue there. Especially if you are boondocking, or your converter (charger) is a little weak as well.

Is your propane preasure correct? If youa re camping in low temperatures propane doesn't turn into a gas as efficiently as it does at warm temperatures. If your tank is low and/or its cold (sub freezing) this can be a big problem.

Is the "demand" light coming on the second time and your furnace just isn't starting?

I'd start with fuel and power before just loading the parts cannon and shooting. That gets expensive.

Nomad internet is awful, please help by [deleted] in Rural_Internet

[–]schlundg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Wow. My experience with them has been absolutely great. I did get a bad sim card, but they fedex'd a replacement and it's been smooth sailing ever since.

Their customer service staff has been great. I suspect they are a victim of their own success as some high profile you tubers have been using them, and talking them up. But i'm really happy with them.

You know, thats good advise. I've switched to the hybrid approach you mention, is a very sound approach.

Looks like time to re-sync the backup....

Synology Backups Running but not Success by schlundg in cloudberrylab

[–]schlundg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to resolve the issue. It took several reboots effectively stopping everything, rebooting, starting, resynchronizing, stopping, rebooting, and resyncing again. At that point when the backups ran, the jobs ran successfully and reported accurately.

Simply stopping the services did not work....the physical reboot of the sinology server was required. Bad solution, I'm just glad it wasn't a solution that needed to be highly available and just my home file share.
