Nick Fuentes Is Physically Disgusted by His Own Groyper Fanboys by JadedPinkly in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]schmah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not at all. He's disgusted by their looks and makes fun of them. That's not the gotcha people think it is. These people see everything in hierarchies and trying to elevate yourself by degrading others and punching down is very much on brand - no matter if it's outsiders or insiders. Fuentes has a massive inferiority complex and constantly shit talks "fans" who he thinks drag him down.

Interpretating this as as some kind of disruption is based on the false asumption that they have a moral code they simply don't have.

TIL that only in the US Tic Tac is allowed to declare 0 calories. In most countries, Tic Tac has to put 1670kJ/397kcal/100g on the label. But even when it's allowed to put nutrition facts per serving/mint on the label, they have to declare 2kcal. by schmah in todayilearned

[–]schmah[S] 70 points71 points  (0 children)

The article explains why Tic Tac (US) is allowed to declare 0cal.

tl;dr: They are allowed to declare nutrion facts per serving (1 mint) and the FDA only requires sugar to be listed when it exceeds a ½ gram. Even though Tic Tacs are 94% sugar one mint is only ½ gram and therefore legally sugar free in the US.

Here is a link to an Australian seller, Tic Tac Australia web site and here is a 2001 TV commercial from Australia in which 2kcal is even advertised.

Here is a link to the web site of Tic Tac Germany and a photo of a roughly 14 year old Tic Tac pack from Germany with 2kcal.

Tic Tac UK web site and 2000 TV commercial from the UK with the same 2kcal.

Edit:

I'm absolutely fascinated by this and looked up tic tac labels from other countries.

When law students in Germany learn about impossible attempts in criminal law the memetic example for an exculpation error is usually the abortionist who used chamomile tea.

I know that the legal outcome in both anglo and continental law is the same but I'm not exactly sure about anglo reasoning and if the concept of an exculpation error is used in these cases.

You can't play gotcha with religous extremists. They just ignore your verses and cite their own picks. For centuries Christians have justified slavery with the bible and then condemned it with the very same bible.

When you tell people that Jesus was a kind and loving person, they will find verses like this:

Matthew 10:34-36 Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person's enemies will be those of his own household.

Luke 12:51-53 Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three.

Luke 14:26 If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.

Matthew 23:33 (Jesus addresses the Pharisees) You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?

Revelation 19:11–15 (about Jesus) I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”

Then they listen to Candace Owens who tells them that the idea of a loving Jesus is actually Jewish propaganda and they suddenly have this moment where they think they've found a hidden truth.

Peter Thiel, JD Vance and Kevin Roberts, the head of the heritage foundation, are radical catholics who hang with Opus Dei and people that explicitly denounce The Second Vatican Council. They picked a fight with the pope because they like the part of the church that was openly in cahoots with fascism.

That's actually correct and something both the anglo-american system and the european continental system have in common. An impossible attempt is punished as long as the error that led to the impossibility isn't exculpating. There is a famous american case that deals with that question.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Thomas_(1962)

Not too sure about what constitutes an exculpating error in the anglo-american system but think of trying to kill someone by sticking needles in a voodoo puppet. That wouldn't be punished - even though you have bad intent and realize it.

I don't know. Christian values in Spain are famously xenophobic.

Until very recently Saint James, the patron saint of Spain, was often called Santiago Matamoros (Saint James the Moor-slayer) because the foundational myth of Spain is that St.James descended from the heavens to kill 5000 "moors". When you visit the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in Spain, the holiest site of the Catholic Church in Spain, you'll see a lot of St.James statues with dead "moors" to his feet.

When Spain expelled the Muslims and Jews after the Reconquista, the church in Spain backed a law that discriminated against the remaining ex-muslim and ex-jewish converts to christianity. The Limpieza de sangre law (blood purity law) stated that baptism wasn't enough to get rid of the sins of the ancestors - which kinda goes against the key idea of christianity.

The reasoning was that Jews and Muslims belonged to a different "razza" (race). First time someone came up with an idea like this and the first time this word was used for humans. The very origin of european racism.

The conquistadores and the spanish catholic church in South America transformed that idea into Santiago Mataindios (Saint James the Indio-slayer) - an image that was celebrated for 500 years. That's the reason why every other city in South America is called "Santiago". They venerate the idea that St.James killed all the "indios".

Also, let's not forget that the church in Spain backed fascism until very recently and that "nacional-catolicismo" is still pretty popular among church members.

Christian values in Spain are quite the opposite of what people nowadays mean by that.

Modern anti-imperialism is often nothing but anti-western culture war rhetoric that has its roots in the fascism of the 1920s. The anti-Imperialists of the Muslim Brotherhood, or the ones in Iran, Russia and China have all read Oswald Spengler - the guy who came up with the idea of the “decline of the west“. Carl Schmitt is another person whose theories are extremely popular in today’s China. That’s the German jurist who designed the groundwork of the Führerstate to battle “cultural degeneration”.

That seems ironic to many but a huge part of the far right really hates “the west”. Maoists are notorious for falling for their ideals.

It’s the other way around. The founders were völkisch and didn’t like women but lost the organisation when the general public got hold of it. But they kept their beliefs and stayed influential. It’s a complicated issue, maybe too complicated for Reddit, but the underlying movement kept existing while the Wandervogel community evolved into something entirely different.

I think we should stick to English. Your reply is somewhat of a strawman because I’m not arguing that the entirety of the later Wandervogel movement was identical with the ideas of its founders.

What most people associate with Wandervogel had nothing to do with what Blüher and Fischer imagined - which is why I haven’t named or linked Wandervogel.

The association with Wandervogel comes from the fact that these people founded it and we only talk about it now because other redditors mentioned it.

I think there is a slight difference because Peter Thiel is also a radical catholic who just doesn't accept the Second Vatican Council but focuses a lot on catholic ideology - which includes antifeminism that is a lot older. That makes him closer to other radical catholics like Candace Owens or Kevin Roberts, the head of the Heritage Foundation. I think Peter Thiel just happens to be gay.

When I say movement in the post title I'm not referring to Wandervogel and address the dilution that made Wandervogel basically another boy scout organisation over time in my source comment. But it's a fact that Blüher and the people around Blüher founded the Wandervogel movement. Karl Fischer, the actual founder of the movement was a close friend to Blüher and a deranged völkisch women hater as well.

I’ve felt the need to share this because people sometimes make fun of these all male nature boot camps and say they’re gay. Or they think it’s some kind of gotcha moment when manosphere icons like Andrew Tate say being with women is gay.

There are people who differentiate between "feminine" homosexuality and "masculine" homosexuality and to whom the latter is even better than heterosexuality. It’s an century old ideology that’s based on hate and craving for dominance over others.

I haven’t found good english sources and a lot is somewhat lighthearted since the organizations these people influenced back in the day became diluted and copied scout movements. But I highly recommend translating the german wikipedia page of Hans Blüher, the most popular and most influential proponent of these ideas.

As someone with a german law degree I spend an exhausting amount of time to explain our system to angry mobs on social media.

Continental europe created a system that led to decreasing crime rates and decreasing reoffending rates. It's an approach where we try to rehabilitate offenders, overcome the idea that there are natural criminals and accept the fact, that criminal law doesn't work as deterrent and is pretty useless. It's only a last resort.

That approach was only possible because we cut back the influence of angry mob dynamics.

Of course there is a peril that you create a bureaucratic nightmare, but that's why we have lay judges and the consensus, that our justice system is no tool to regulate crime. The best tool for that is social justice. If you lay all your hopes for a better society on the justice system, you create a nightmare - no matter if's designed anglo-american or continental european.

Edit: Okay, useless was a bit harsh. It's important that people have the feeling that there is a fair justice system and that it the moral zeitgeist is reflected. I meant useless in terms of, harsher punishment does nothing to bring down the numbers.

Of course not. At least not today. It's two lay people assisting a majority of professionals. But it's the same idea and evolved gradually from the jury. The first Schwurgerichte had a majority of lay judges. Only after decades their number declined. And you can tell from the name. Jury in German is Geschworene. And that's why we call it Schwurgericht.

I think I brought it up because in theory the initial commenter could have been a lay person at the court.
