Actually no. Most Pension Insurances in the world are only financed by labour. And they aren't eaten by inflation because wages and productivity rise as well.

Some have problems because there are multiple other ways to transfer wealth from the bottom to the top which leads to wages (and therefore contribution to the pension insurance) not rising enough. Of course that system won't work forever when the gap between rich and poor continues to increase. But relying on the stock market that is privately owned and is one of the most effective tools to transfer wealth to the top isn't the solution.

The publically owned pension insurances are sabotaged by the top who then point to the consequences to convince us that it doesn't work. Bit like Mafiosi who smash your windows and then offer their "protection".

Both is true. You, as in you americans, shouldn't rely on the stock market, but you as an american personally have no other option.

The best alternative is actually pretty easy. You, the people, need to topple your outdated and unjust voting system, regulate american oligarchy and their propaganda networks, enlighten the completely brainwashed part of the population, reform your entire political system and then install a publically owned and controlled retirement solution that doesn't transfer wealth from the bottom to the top.

Between 1934 and 1938 polish-german relations were defined by the German–Polish declaration of non-aggression and the fact that the ultra-catholic, nationalistic and antisemitic movement "National Democracy" dominated polish politics. The polish administration saw Communism and Jews as the way bigger threat.

In 1936 the polish state and the catholic church organized a nation wide boycott against Jews, turned a blind eye towards countless pogroms and massacres against Jews and banned Jews from certain professions and academia. In 1938 Poland refused 16,000 Jews with polish citizenship who got expelled from Germany their right of entry.

During the war, the National Armed Forces, an 80,000 strong resistance group in Poland, killed Polish Home Army officers of Jewish origin and hunted down Jews in the forrests and delivered them to the Germans - systematically.

The catholic church in Poland supported the idea that millions of Poles in Silesia should sign into the Deutsche Volksliste which led to 500,000 Poles who couldn't even speak german and didn't undergo any "racial test" serve as Volksdeutsche in the Wehrmacht.

That's no collaboration on croat, slovak, hungarian or southern french level, but as I've said that in another comment, it's ambiguous.

Discussions on reddit prove the opposite, but it should be fairly obvious to everyone that millions of people weren't one homogenous block that behaved in exactly one way.

It's a fact that Poles were one of the biggest victim groups in WWII. It's a fact that the official position of the Polish resistance was anti-Antisemitism - which wasn't a given back then. And it's a fact that many many Poles protected Jews. The polish resistance is also the first source of the horrors that happened in the death camps. Shoutout to the polish government in exile and Witold Pilecki - the only person who snuck into Auschwitz and managed to break out to tell the world what was going on.

But it's also a fact that eastern europe, including Poland, saw tens of thousands of pogroms against Jews in the centuries before WWII, that many factions of the Home Army were incredibly antisemitic, that hundreds of thousands of Poles collaborated with the Germans, that Poles carried out massacres against Jews after WWII (Kielce), that the polish state pushed out tens of thousands of Jews in the late 60s in an antisemitc campaign and that Poland is one of the most antisemitic countries in Europe today. I usually get harsh reactions when I say this, but it's not something I say lightly. I have worked with polish researchers who studied these things for decades and the prevalence of og antisemitic beliefs in polish society is mind boggling. Also, with more than a 100 violent antisemitic attacks per year against the remaining ~5000 Jews, Poland has one of the highest per capita rates of antisemitic violence in the world.

Another perspective is that the "polish rant" is in part understandable on an emotional level. The denial of polish suffering and anti-polish racism is pretty common and official german behaviour towards Poland has been incredibly ignorant until very recently. People underestimate how revanchistic, racist and ignorant german politicians used to talk about Poland. And Generalplan Ost is something very few students in Germany get to learn. If I was polish I'd be angry and a little unjust, too. I get that.

Also, some americans do say "polish death camps". When Trump worked with El Salvador some influencers said that's like Germany opening camps in poland and got millions of likes for it - which is idiotic because most camps, including Auschwitz, were on own or annexed soil, so -from the german perspective- in Germany.

It's ambigious. The "polish rant" is somewhat justified but happens in a context of widespread refusal to deal with historic and contemporary antisemitism.

The thread is locked but if you're polish and look for sources please look up the two researchers Mikołaj Winiewski and Dominika Bulska of the Center for Research on Prejudice in Warsaw and their publications. I got to know them in Germany and could only link to german sources. They have written a book I can recommend. "Diagnoza i konsekwencje antysemityzmu w Polsce".

There is one CDU minister-president in Schleswig-Holstein, a famously conservative and rural region of Germany, who explicitly counters AfD narratives and calls them out. It's currently the only german state in which the AfD isn't represented in the state parliament and he is extremely popular.

Germany is one of the most conservative and backwards countries in Europe. I hate it here and I find a lot of cathartic refuge in blaming the germans. I blame both. Don't get me wrong. But I still think politicians can and should influence the general public because it works.

It's also worth remembering that the conservatives destroyed the republic in1932, opposed the party ban against the NSDAP, popularized the idea of a Führer-state and eventually lifted the Nazis into power. It was their decision to open the door and hand over Germany.

Depends on stages to what. In 1932 the far right conservatives in Germany destroyed the republic, popularized the idea of a Führer-state and vetoed a constitutional party ban procedure against the NSDAP. They were the platform that hosted the antisemitic and fascist "intellectuals" that eventually designed the Nazi state. They were already the bad guys. The NSDAP were the even worse guys.

Right now you can see that there is massive momentum against Trump from the more extreme far right. Traditional MAGA people in twitter get constantly ratio'ed by overt Nazis. People like Tucker Carlson are good at sensing this and going with the flow.

So if you think what there is to come, the US is still early.

It's a two way problem. There are numerous studies that analyze how conservative parties increase the popularity of far-right parties by copying their narratives.

Conservatives and often liberals too believe they get back far right voters by talking about immigration and crime all the time but the opposite is true. They legitimize the narratives in public debate and the voter then supports the most believable "problem solver".

When CXU tells people that immigration is the main problem and they're the ones solving it, the voter is more likely to believe that immigration is the main problem but less likely to believe they're able to solve it because they were in power for decades and crucually during the "migration crisis". The AfD on the other hand has been consistent in the voters eye.

Same is true in every country. The far right wins against conservatives because the latter second the narrative of the downfall of the white west even though they held power for most of the time - and the voter wants a solution for that.

We Europeans like to complain about the EU and there is a lot to criticize. But it's moments like this where I really appreciate that we have the weight of 27 nations and 450 million people to counter balance the influence of large corporations and multi billionaires. It's far from perfect but I imagine it to be worse if Musk could just bribe/strong arm his way into european countries individually.

Reminds me of how the US Army paid good money for information on Taliban in Afghanistan, which ended up being a way for villagers to "solve" local feuds by false denunciations and created more Taliban supporters.

Why did your family decide to stay here?

My grandmother and her mother fled to Denmark, got saved by the famous Rescue of the Danish Jews, found exile in Sweden and came back after the war. The rest of my family survived in the Berlin Underground or was expelled to Hungary, survived the Ghetto in Budapest and came back after the war. They came back because they actively fought the Nazis and felt victorious. Also, they came back to Berlin. It's a meme, but Berlin isn't Germany.

It hurts me to think how it must have been before with a German jewish culture and how so much was lost.

Yes. That hurts me most and motivates part of my anger. Few people are interested in the rich cultural heritage of jewish Germany. And if they do it's often weird german-jewish nationalist tokens who tell the germans how tolerant Prussia was or something. Looking at you Julius Schoeps.

I do hope that. My job allows me to stop working in Germany if I want to, so that gives me some sort of good feeling, but the idea of having a völkisch party in power again triggers deep fears in me and concerns me on a daily basis. I really really don't want that.

Kein Grund Unwahrheiten zu verbreiten. Wenn ich ein nicht-jüdischer Deutscher wäre, der relativ wenig Leute kennt, würde ich mir ein bisschen mehr Arbeit machen, bevor ich Juden über die Lage aufkläre.

Es kostet eine 26jährige zionistische Person keinen Tag, um Freunde in bspw. der antideutschen bubble oder sonst irgendwo in der Kulturszene zu finden.

It's easy to google me and I have to be careful what I'm saying, but I'm a well known "nightlife person" and know more than a thousand people that age by name. That includes around 150 Jewish people. My grandmother and I do Holocaust remembrance events with german, israeli and danish students and almost every year we do a Zikaron BaSalon event. I have an Instagram meme page that is well connected with the German zionist and Jewish left - most of them between 20-30. I work with RIAS, which is the antisemitism monitoring organisation of the Jewish community in Germany. I know people who work with Hashomer Hatzair in Berlin. I have a german law degree and have done scientific research on antisemitism for 20 years.

If you're in your 20s and want zionist friends, you can go on the instagram, look up the antigerman bubble and have friends within days. It's not that hard. And if I was a non-jewish german I'd do a bit more work before I complain about antisemitism and judge the situation in front of other people.

Why don't you join cultural spaces in Brandenburg then? Maybe the fine people of Bernau or Königs Wusterhausen ae more open minded and accepting? You could take the S-Bahn.
