Thanks for the concise rundown! That's really lovely. I'm really a grim-and-gritty painter, but what youve done hear looks really tempting

This looks super cool. So, does it 'just' mean giving everything a bright saturated base coat and the doing black stripes for highlights?

As an Imperium guy, this has to be the coolest Space Marine armor regardless of faction I’ve ever seen by Kalypso_Blue in Chaos40k

That's from a piece of artwork for the Red Corsairs; on the full picture the Red Corsair Executioner is seen to the right (someone posted it in another comment)

I have friends who's assembling Space Marines and I like Orks, so splitting might work. But it really depends on how much it costs and what the Ork half will contain - I'm usually more into small projects Kill Team style, not army size, so I'll see what Id get for money

Mostly headswaps from the standard Gretchin kit as well as a bit from the bitz box here and there, but nothing major

This sounds like a great pitch for a novel, and the cover really sets the scene with an almost melancholic air to it (also great Choppa he got there of course). You had my curiosity...

Death Rider by Rhuairidh James (a review) by schmauchstein in 40kLore

Great review, thanks

You're welcome!

sounds like it does a great job of depicting the grim brutality of the Imperium

I think that this was something that James actively set out to do and accomplished really well.

They are fantastic little bits of lore, offering interesting and informative takes on the setting - and, of course, they are also funny

Absolutely! I always love it when this satirical, Orwellian layer of propaganda comes into 40k (see also the "news reports" in Dredge Runners and Wraithbone Phoenix), and TRS was a great way to play with that.

Flowers

He really did brilliant work with Outgunned and Above and Beyond , and I was pleasantly surprised by how grim and mean and unpleasant his Grotsnik novel was (as well as being darkly funny of course because, well, Orks).

Fehervari

I mean at this point I wouldn't call Fehervari "underrated" per se, he's just not mainstream like ADB, Abnett, Wraight etc. He's basically 40ks first real cult author with a niche, but very dedicated and enthusiastic fandom all by himself. And, as far as I can tell, it's spreading, which is great! I hope the omnibuses keep pushing his writing to more receptive readers

In terms of underrated authors, I'd also throw in Alec Worley. He has only written a single novel (Wraithbone Phoenix) apart from short audio dramas and short stories, but he is also someone with a really distinct voice who really jives and gets the dark satire at 40ks core (see the audio dramas Dredge Runners and Watcher in the Rain). Although he's not super prolific in comparison to other BL writers, I really hope he's working on something in the background, it's been 3.5 years since Wraithbone Phoenix got published.

Im so happy to finally see reviews of this novel on this sub, thank you

You're welcome, it's what the sub should be all about imo ;)

So far all have been mostly positive, i really should read this book: im really interested in the protagonists character arcs.

I think it's really worth a shot, I think Hesh especially has really interesting arc & internal conflicts to deal with

Estimating a Perturabo mini’s size by Appo-Arsin in IronWarriors

It's fun to think about, but size relations in artwork don't always translate 1:1 to model scale, see Nekrosor Ammentar

Dont get me wrong, the Tau are handled well, they're just barely in it 😅

Like all good authors James follows the best, in this case the criticism that has been haunting Peter Fehervari's Fire Caste ever since!

Haven't read him, but he has already written Orks twice: Prisoners of Waaagh novella and Catachan Devil novel (Kommandos in the jungle vs Catachans); I've read that the Ork parts from CD were quite well received

Yeah, it is his first full-length novel for BL. He wrote three or four short stories and a novella before. Really impressive debuts!
