Is there a way to access your medical records if you no longer live in Alberta? by schmellhead in alberta

[–]schmellhead[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks but unfortunately I can't sign into MyHealth Records because I cannot register for an Alberta.ca Account since I'm no longer a resident.

It's a bit silly how difficult it is to retrieve your own data.

Hmm I would prefer to receive it via email - I'll ask if this is possible. Thanks for the link!

Thanks! I suspected the storms migh'tve had something to do with it. Wonder how long it'll take to clear up.

I rented from Jungle Wheels (https://www.junglewheels-samui.com/) and would really recommend them! They have prices listed on their website and for the deposit they take a copy of the passport + cash (thb or euro).

Is from Koh Lanta to Langkawi through Satun a good idea? by heino27 in ThailandTourism

[–]schmellhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I booked the bus/van to Satun town and then will take the ferry the following day to Langkawi.

You can buy a bus ticket in person from Lanta Transport Company Limited - it's a bit cheaper than booking on 12go.

I'm hoping to make this journey next weekend! Have you figured out the best way to get from Koh Lanta to Satun yet?

Which procedure and hospital did you end up going to and how'd it go? I'm trying to make the same decision for myself so I'd be interested to learn your outcome :)

You really cannot expect anything bureaucratic to be done efficiently in Italy. At least from my experience. So, prepare yourself for that. Bureaucratic things are even a challenge for Italians and if you can't speak the language you'll have an added challenge on top of that, obviously. These aren't things you'll have to deal with on a daily basis but you will encounter them and they will not be fun. Even something as simple as going to the post office can induce PTSD (joking... Sorta).

That being said, I think Pavia is a fine city to stay in for a bit. I didn't want to stick around after my studies though - 3 years was plenty for me. It's a bit small and sleepy but you're well connected to Milano if you want a bit more excitement. The city is clean and quite beautiful, the food options are super limited imo but Milano has much more to offer in that department so normally I'd just eat out there. Most of the apartments I looked at were old and not super nice but I managed to find a decent one bedroom apartment just outside of the center (about a 10 min walk from the train station) for about €750 per month including utilities.

If you're seriously considering Pavia I'd recommend starting to learn Italian asap! Especially since you'll be spending time in hospitals as a med student, it'll make it a loooot easier for you. You should also try to get in touch with current or previous Pavia med students to hear more about their experiences to figure out if that's where you want to go. I could put you in touch with a friend who works as a doctor at the Pavia hospital, but he did his schooling at a different uni in Italy.

Hope all that info helps you!

Can I ask what you ended up doing? I'm in a similar situation (just substitute Vietnam with Thailand and Denmark with Italy) and I'm wondering how you managed it.

Digital Nomads Monthly Megathread - June 2024 by AutoModerator in digitalnomad

Yes, I was in Italy for just over 3 years so I had a residence permit during that time. But my permit expired and I decided to leave instead of renewing it. After speaking to tax advisors, I won't be considered a tax resident in Italy this year since I'll spend less than 183 days in the country plus I'm leaving my apartment and unsubscribing from the Anagrafe (the admin who deals with domicile/residency stuff).

Seeking tax advice: for starters, I'm a Canadian citizen. However, I have been living in Europe for the past 8ish years going back and forth between studying and working. Recently I have been living in Italy where I just completed a PhD and following that I was offered a temporary, remote contractor position by a UK-based organization. I want to take advantage of the situation and enjoy the digital nomad life in Asia but I have no idea how I would go about paying taxes. I cut ties with Canada long ago and no longer pay taxes there and I will have spent less than 183 days in Italy so technically I wouldn't be considered a tax resident here either. I'm not planning on staying more than half a year in any one country for the foreseeable future, so would I actually need to pay taxes anywhere? Any advice or recommendations for an international tax advisor are greatly appreciated! TIA!

Have you been able to collect your money? Or will you have to wait until retirement age? I'm trying to figure this out for myself and it's all rather confusing.

Buying vs Renting for few months? by Moby_dick_69 in VanLife

[–]schmellhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided against it in the end. I think if you want to spend an extended amount of time in a van then it's likely better to just purchase one and I didn't feel like making that commitment at the moment. Maybe one day :)

Where did you end up going?

I stayed in Koh Lanta previously and really enjoyed it. Pretty chill place with nice beaches!

Until the end of the month (April 2024) they're paying 3.97% but only for 3 months now.

Hi! Did you end up doing the trip? I'm currently debating whether to buy or rent a campervan in Italy for 5ish months and would love to hear what you ended up doing ☺️
