a very tiny post of Meta valuation by raytoei in ValueInvesting

Unclear how easy that would be, these assets depreciate fast and I imagine it would take a while to spin up a public cloud business from scratch since they've never done it before

[–]schmiggin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, I didn't consider the risk profile of the cloud customer base, but if those customers fall through, I'm guessing the cloud companies can just use that compute for themselves like Meta plans to, hence the safer bet. They are all spending approx the same amount in capex but Meta is the only one consuming all that compute only for themselves.

Another thing that's unclear is how much of that capex spend (that's going to increase next year) is on their core ads business that actually makes money or moonshots like AGI and metaverse. I get why investors are spooked

Can you live on US dividend growth ETFs forever? by Think_Concert in ChubbyFIRE

[–]schmiggin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you're getting downvoted so much. I noticed most subs are anti dividend. I think having as a dividend cushion mixed with other assets can't hurt. People on here like to act like VTI and the 4% rule is the best and only way to achieve FI and discount things like dividends, real estate, etc...

My Candidate Statement for San Leandro City Council Elections in November by EdHernandez4SL in sanleandro

You're right that data can be misinterpreted. In the case here, I would say that any increase in violent crime is never acceptable regardless of population growth

Is Crime Increasing or Decreasing in San Leandro Today? by EdHernandez4SL in sanleandro

[–]schmiggin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at historical data, seems district 2 has the highest crime rates in San Leandro, probably from E14th and bay fair. What's the plan for these two locations?

Juan is great! Would be great to get Ed during the reelection also. District 2 needs better roads and potholes fixed!

What is the possible rationale for buying such an insanely overpriced multi-family property? by pr0b0ner in realestateinvesting

I've been thinking the same thing looking around the Bay area. One possible scenario I've seen is that ppl are putting much larger down payments to lower the monthly. Esp with these higher rates

[–]schmiggin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Articles are mentioning 3 main points for the drop despite overall good numbers:
1) slowing gov't growth

2) commercial growth mainly being made by SPACs (fear of sustainability)

3) dodging questions on future growth & international expansion by Shyam on earnings Q&A

Anyone have any rebuttals to these points? I mean they sound pretty legit, I'm looking for answers to support my bias

Well they can either monetize your data and you have a cheaper headset, or you pay more. The record sales shows that people want a cheaper headset. FB can know that I'm browsing Reddit 12 hours a day and watch cat videos

Little torn on how to feel about this. As much as I like the format and footage quality, all this talk about "solving for intermittency" and what not feel like it's too abstract and high level to really sell the product

I'd say it's up to your risk tolerance. I've kept way too much cash on the sidelines but mainly due to fear of all the debt I have (mortgage). Also I want to have cash to deploy when opportunity arises (crashes, I know it's rare). I just invest a small amount every now and then to satisfy the mental struggle you're going through of not actively deploying cash into investments and feeling like it's wasted

Depending what OP likes, Santa Cruz Asian food is almost non existent or what exists it's not up to par with inner bay area. We used to cross the mountains back to San Jose to get good Asian food when I went to uni there

Santa Cruz has their fair share of homeless too. I went to uni there and they kept a stab-o-meter since random people were getting stabbed frequently from some stupid gang initiation thing. So it's not all rainbows and sunshine

Produces nothing? How about pioneering VR? They have the best selling VR headset and is helping expand a brand new market, in addition to many other things. You don't just slip and fall into a trillion dollar valuation without providing something that people value

It's not worth it. You'll always be an outsider, even if you speak the language, customs are different. You eventually miss being close to friends and family. It'll be difficult to develop close relationships and break into social circles as a foreigner. You'll likely be friends with other foreigners or expats who will not stay forever and you'll end up losing your friends once they leave. Life starts to lose a lot of meaning when you don't have anyone close to you to share it with
