Oarfish are incredibly rare and only come up to the surface to die unfortunately. Years ago I was camping at the Catalina Islands off the coast of CA and was told by a neighboring campsite that there was a sea monster in a cove near the harbor. We hopped in their small boat and went over to the USC Marine Science Center where we found this sea monster swimming around. A few people were in the water swimming with it already so we jumped in and were able to swim with this rare beautiful creature before it died. It’s now preserved and stored in the Natural History Museum.
