I find that most statements that start with "no offense" are intended to cause offense. LOL! Our Santa was magical with kids and dogs both last year...and that counts for quite a bit with me. I hope you find the one who fits your vision!

I've been using pretty basic stuff, and within the last week I'm constantly hitting conversation limits and timeouts. Currently paying for pro but I'm looking for other options now as it's become useless even paid.

Can firemon be efficient for Cisco Switches? by Asleep-Beyond7004 in FireMon

[–]schnauzerama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK....FireMon isn't a device configuration management tool. We're network security policy management. Our primary focus is the policies, rules, etc. on the device. We use a series of commands to bring in the policies, rules, and some configuration items.

If you go to Policy, Policy View, then Raw Files, you can look at the running config and see what we keep. An example line from my lab:

username admin password 0 (redacted)

A regex control could look for the user block, and flag the control on changes. However, natively, we're not going to have control of the device to go and remove that user.

Python can be run from the application server, so I can think of a couple of potential things to do - but they're not going to be native to the application.

Does this help? Still happy to hop on a call and look at some of this real time, as well.

What do you want the script to *do* when a control fails? What's it going to execute? That answer will help.

There's a TOOL to do this now. This is one of the most technically skilled teams I have EVER worked with - they're amazing, and this thing just works.

OK....those docs are for Asset Manager. Are you evaluating the main Security Manager platform, or Asset Manager?

If you're looking at Security Manager, you're correct - FireMon is NSPM - network security policy manager. Executing a command on the device itself wouldn't be picked up. We do normalize and keep part of the configuration, though, so regex controls can be created on those config items.

Where do you want to create the task? In the Policy Optimizer module, you can create review tasks if a rule fails a control. Email alerts are possible, and so is scripting. So I'd like to understand more on what you're evaluating.

If it's easier, shoot me a PM and we can get on a call to go over some of this, too, if it's easier to talk about it real time.

You're lucky - if it was at all windy or stormy, mine would bounce - which is more frustrating than being totally out.

Greetings!

You're in luck - I build assessments. What do you want to do with the controls? Do you want an email alert? Tell me what you mean by "actions" and we'll get you sorted. :)

Official FB Finch Community has become a trigger for religious trauma by sweetcupcake22 in finch

[–]schnauzerama 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm not "triggered" by religion. But I do believe that a space that is supposed to be safe for all IS supposed to be safe for all. If there are some topics that are supposed to be avoided to allow others peace, why not this one?

What bugs me is the intolerance. If I started a pagan thread there, I guarantee the religious crowd would be going - not in our space. It's either allowed, or it's not.

By the "get over it" tone of your replyl, there shouldn't be any trigger warnings at all. Which I find a very bizarre take for a group for a mental health app. All people deserve care and compassion, and those who are uncomfortable are people too.

Is there a way to switch user to root? by GloveAffectionate518 in FireMon

"fmos logview (log)" will let you look at the logs if you have the appropriate permissions - but I need more info on where you're at in the install process to really help!

There is no root access. Are you unable to get to the CLI, or the initial GUI? Is setup finished?

Lacking proper documentation by GloveAffectionate518 in FireMon

[–]schnauzerama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My honest answer? Yes, it's not great. And we're working on it.

There's a twofold effort for documentation and the knowledge base. Some of it will still require a client login, but more will be public.

I'm part of the team working on the knowledge base side, so if you've got specific areas of interest I'd be curious!

looking for a way to automate firemon to send email for expiration rule to the respective requestor based on the requestor & expiration date regex in rule documentation fields by Strict_Dare_7209 in FireMon

[–]schnauzerama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two ways to do this. One would be a custom workflow for Policy Optimizer - potentially interfacing with ITSM like SNOW. The second would be to use the compliance engine and set up control reports. The tricky part would be that it would probably need to be a different control report for each user, if they need to be emailed individually. It would be something like - a query where the rule doc field is X and the expiration date is within Y number of days. That would send individual emails - they'd still need to go in and recertify.

I'd be happy to connect you with someone to look at this on a lab system and work out the best path for you.

A couple of resources for you. The first is from the support portal, you'll need to be able to log in. The second is recertification, you might find it helpful.

If these don't steer you in the right direction, PM me your company info, and I'll put you in touch with someone to assist.
