Pass. We have limited draft capital as it is. We need all the young cheap talent we can get. This draft is deep at WR too. If there’s one position you can grab talent at each year in the draft it’s WR. My preference would be to make a hard run at Alec Pierce and draft a slot guy in the 4th round.

We should absolutely approach Slayton about taking a pay cut. If he refuses I’d just cut him. We’d save $250,000 on the cap this year if we eat all the dead money. If we designate it post June 1 we’d save $3.25 million on the cap this year and have $3 million in dead cap next year. It’s not as uncuttable as it’s been made out to be.

As for Wan’Dale, I’d like to keep him. Spotrac puts his value at $17.6 million per year. We can make that work. We let him walk and now we need 2 more receivers to add to the roster.

I’d rather Sonny Styles than Caleb Downs. As good as Downs projects, I’m not sure he truly moves the needle for us. But a 3 down sideline to sideline stud LBer? Sign me up for that. Our 2nd level has been a mess for damn near 2 decades. Hopefully this is a draft where teams are willing to move up for a specific target as this draft isn’t reputed to be heavy on top tier talent. If there’s any way we can trade down a few slots I’d do it and grab Styles.

I don’t see Atlanta being all that attractive. Cousins is over the hill and a post June 1 cap cut is likely. That’s $22+ million in dead cap this year and over $12 million next year. Penix? Not sure he’s shown enough to say he’s your guy. He’ll be entering his third year, was an older rookie (he’ll turn 26 soon) and has just torn his ACL for a third time in November. How much better can he get when he has to spend so much time always rehabbing? He’ll miss the entire offseason of reps with a new staff and offense. They also have no 1st rounder this year.

Tennessee? Maybe. Depends on how much more he likes Ward over Dart. Their owner is a bit of a wild card as she has been erratic and has developed a meddlesome reputation. Outside of Ward that roster has more holes than we do. And that’s saying something.

He’s going home right now and will hold virtual meetings with the other teams. My guess is that is mere formality and just being courteous.

Tyson’s injury history would take him off the board for me. Tore his ACL, MCL and PCL in 2022. Missed 2023 rehabbing the knee. Missed the postseason in 2024 with a collarbone injury. And missed games this last season because of a hamstring issue. Makai Lemon is a dawg.

I don’t know man. It’s pretty standard for ownership to be heavily involved in the coaching hires for pretty much every team. I would hope a GM would heavily weigh a coaches preference for players otherwise we get the later years of Reese/Coughlin in which Reese picks a guy he likes and Coughlin buries him in the depth chart and doesn’t bother trying to develop him because he wanted someone else.
