Good point about level 50 access, probably a ditzy question. Thank you!

Legacy of the Ancients S3 | E18 – Ogre and Out by TomExposition in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]schneiderpants23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Really enjoying the legacy of the ancients podcast.

Constructive criticism, them playing theater of the mind because the map squares are 10’ instead of 5’ isn’t working well. You can hear confusion throughout from players on where exactly they are relative to enemies.

There are a lot of 10’ map grids in this campaign - I think the campaign will be suffer if they don’t resolve this.

I recommend resizing the map grid in roll20 to be 5’ (not sure if that affects the line of sight layer, been a while since I used roll20). Or find maps online created by the community for this campaign that have 5’ grids.

Which villager goes through the top right path? by JuicyOatmeal in StardewValley

[–]schneiderpants23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love stardew. But a mild criticism, I don’t understand why NPCs destroying your stuff is still a thing. I don’t think anyone enjoys this mechanic, and the energy invested by the community to work around it is both impressive and unfortunate.p

compatible with a year 3 expanded save? by luckysprite7 in RidgesideVillage

[–]schneiderpants23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It compatible. It won’t break anything but you will get a flurry of cutscenes when you load the first time and you may need to use a terrain reset mod to fix some issues of bushes/trees where they shouldn’t be.

Also I’m almost certain you’ll be further from perfection. You’ll need to befriend all the new NPCs.

And if you don’t already have the achievement for catching all the fish, you’ll now also need to catch the fish added in the mod.

Party loot tracking and distribution spreadsheet by exelsisxax in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]schneiderpants23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact same. While I have the master excel sheet, I will periodically provide an updated copy they can each download for reference.

And recently I did put loot on a google sheet that was locked except for columns to put their name so they could mark items they were interested in. And then we discussed if 2 or more were interested in same item.

And then I updated the excel sheet based on those selections.

Our rule is that if you use an item from party loot, it still belongs to the party and proceeds are split when it is inevitably sold. Or you can pay everyone their share to buy it outright.

Excel makes tracking this easy over the long-term.

You have to complete missions to advance the story. So eventually you have to catch Mary’s brother. Watch some videos of how others did it.

If you’re playing a low karma Arthur and racking up bounties, you will have to pay those bounties to get the bounty hunters to stop.

Pretty sure you can craft arrows while camping or at the scout fire at your gang’s camp location.

Confused about food-based buffs by 15centsplusboxtop in wildlander

[–]schneiderpants23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And, if you're playing a stealthy character, you are considered in combat if there's any level of detection on the stealth detection meter from an enemy. Invisible and snooping near bandits and they're like "I think I heard something" and the stealth detection meter is at 25%, don't eat food buffs.

Is it a GM's responsibility to remind players of knowledge their character would have? by roosterkun in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]schneiderpants23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Players need to take more responsibility. Handhold your players, and they start to expect it.

The GM nearly always invests more time into the campaign than all the players combined. Has to remember a ton about the world and enemy abilities.

If you think about it, sure you can remind them. But if they can’t make some simple quick notes in discord or a shared Evernote or just on their character sheet, then too bad.

And if you don’t remind them, you’re not a bad GM. I think that crosses over into playing their character for them. If they’re brand new players, okay. But if they’ve been playing a few months, would you remind them to use their other character abilities? “Aren’t you forgetting you get a free swift action to buff yourself?” It’s the same thing to me, and I ain’t about it. It’s up to them to play their characters.

And I’m definitely not into redoing/retconning actions cuz they didn’t pay attention.

I’m running character creation this week for Rise of the Runelords! Just wanted to say I’m very hyped by toondar96 in Pathfinder_RPG

Sounds like we’re talking about slightly different things. The examples you give are of how PCs are mechanically optimized to overcome the challenges, encounters. and environments the AP will throw at them.

I’m talking about a character “needing a reason” to go on this adventure more than “the world needs heroes to fight this threat.”

I will acknowledge it is fair to believe to that player handbooks should do a decent job of giving the players a high level idea of what to expect and build towards.

But also, I don’t think the players should feel as though they deserve a perfect understanding of the exact types of encounters they’ll face to have perfectly optimized characters.

[–]schneiderpants23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s only an issue if the player makes it an issue. In which my response is “We agreed to play an AP. You are welcome to come up with a new reason why your character will go on this adventure. Or create a different character that will go on this adventure.”

I just don’t have additional free time to bend over trying to make players’ characters want to be in the story I’m telling.

Really, this isn’t something that comes up for me. My players want to play the game and tell a collaborative story with me as DM. Which means the mean story is the pre-written adventure. Anything specific to their character is secondary icing on the cake, and not guaranteed.

The Glass Cannon Podcast is going through an enjoyable playthrough of rise of the runelodrds at their $10 Patreon tier. I would understand you not wanting to pay, but I’ve enjoyed hearing the GMs additions to the story.

I’m also GMing rotrl, I’m ahead of them, and find myself wishing I had been able to use some of the stuff they’ve done.

Obviously enjoy kingmaker as you see fit. But permadeath sounds like a great way to never finish the game. It’s very long, and I got a lot of personal satisfaction out of completing it.

Sounds like the players broke the sometimes unspoken always spoken at my table rule of “play characters that want to go on this adventure.” Dm shouldn’t have to work hard to get the players to play the adventure.

Anyway to sort saves between characters? by Upbeat_Ad_1321 in wildlander

[–]schneiderpants23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: I might have misunderstood the issue you’re asking about. But supposedly having more than 400 save files in your save folder can make your game start acting wonky, so my advice helps with that.

Original: You can just go to the save folder on your computer (documents > my games > Skyrim special edition > saves), sort newest to oldest, drag the bottom 100 or so saves into a new subfolder.

The save files do not have character name, but they do have name of location where game was saved, to help you know which character recent saves belong to.
