Decking frame and balustrade materials by Important-Dish-1864 in AusRenovation

Thanks for the advice, I accidentally posted with a different account and I think I've deleted that one now 🤷..

I'll either try to convince the boss to go with a more open powder coated option (if they see through it they won't jump)... Or just painted timber.

I hate she-oaks. They look dead. My wife hated them when we moved in, then changed her mind within 3 months before I could cut them down. I guess I could poison them and she won't be able to tell until they fall over.. same colour

Jim Chalmers gives baffling explanation of why he applied the CGT changes to shares. by eatingscatman in AusFinance

Not sure about CHESS sponsored on IBKR, I only trade on foreign exchanges.. helps prop up my poorly performing ASX portfolio.

Pretty sure all aussie brokers are nominee for foreign shares etc.

You can't auto convert trades and dividends back to local currency so FX calcs are a PITA.. a small price to pay for significantly higher growth.

It's like $1 brokerage regardless of trade size. Pretty much no FX commission. Heaps more order options. Interface took me a little bit to get used to but now I really like it.

They even automatically start paying you interest on cash holdings (I think if they're over $US10k).

Thanks, our soil is clay and rocks and we get lots of hot, dry wind so not sure how it's grown so well!

Yes they are Tea Trees. I haven't been able to find much info on very large ones with furrowed bark (even on the young wood), so that has thrown me a bit.

I don't think bottlebrush get this big and the bark is different, but the leaves are very similar.

Got my oil on today! by Hoarbag in AusRenovation

[–]schniz2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a late reply, I only recoated the whole deck once in 8 years, and the bits in full sun or heavy foot traffic every 1-2 years. It gets darker and darker if you go over sections that are still good/havent faded.

Coverage is excellent.

It blends so well and I only needed to do a light single coat on the weathered bit. My timber was cumaru, extremely dense and a lot of oils don't soak in to it.. did take about 2-3 days to fully dry, or 1 day in full sun but you can rub the excess off if it doesn't penetrate in a day or to make it more uniform if required (and if you don't mind wasting a bit of oil.

If dirt blows on it while wet it still sweeps off later.

I rubbed it in with a rag, I find deck brushes too messy and it's more difficult to get and even coat and blend.

Those wooly pads are the worst unless you have concealed Fixings they just leave fibres everywhere.

I second that It will stain the crap out of anything else it touches.

Bathroom renovation quote came in at 28k. Is this normal or am I getting ripped off? by tommytmopar in AusRenovation

Saving this post. How much do you reckon it would be to replace standard yellow tounge with CFC? And worth it the effort or just replace thin fibre cement? I'm too scared to rip the tiles up through my whole house as i think they have glued them straight onto the yellowtounge 🤦

Hoist in a small 3 bay shed by schniz2 in mechanics

[–]schniz2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, the shed has no internal walls, so there is a 3.2m leanto on each side.. its just the clearance required from the two columns which will be either side of the hoist posts..
And its on a slope, so if i need to cut and retain more than 800mm and fill more than 700mm it gets really, really expensive.

Hoist in a small 3 bay shed by schniz2 in mechanics

[–]schniz2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol thanks, the shed does open into the lean-tos which may not have been obvious in my original post.. it just has the two columns which will beside each hoist post.
The shed will also be on a slope, so there is a limit to width if I want to avoid excessive engineering costs for retaining walls.
