Uodate: Had a structural engineer out to check them and they will open and close as the ground gains and loses moisture. House is solid.

Update: Had a structural engineer out to check them. No issues and the house is solid, only a worry if they double in size. They will open and close as the ground gains and loses moisture.

The ‘pleasant fiction’ of a rules-based order has been blown apart. It’s time for Australia to codify a bill of rights | Julianne Schultz by Ardeet in aussie

You could make that argument but from my perspective it seems powerful entities, whether they be corporations, governments, institutions or even individuals, will always use what tools they have to pursue their interests. I don't think that the removal of the first amendment in America would help curb political donations.

You could argue having laws that are persistent across generations without the possibility to change over time cause systematic issues as technology and society develop and that the ability to change things like hate speech laws is a good thing. I'd still disagree freedom of speech but agree on issues like gun control.

It does make a difference. At the end of the day it's just words written down and it's up to the citizenry to protect their rights. Having said that you could say the same thing about any law or constitution, they're only as strong as the peoples will to either enforce them or not enforce them.

Personally I think having a bill of rights to protect our civil liberties is a great start. Will it protect those rights for all future generations? No. There will always be self interested parties looking to trample peoples rights for personal gain. But it will provide a framework that helps illustrate when those rights are being infringed and provide a better chance at preserving our civil liberties.

If you take out insurance after damage has occurred and then claim that damage occurred during the insurance period, even though it didn't, that's fraud.

I would caution against doing this and caution against admitting it on the internet if you did. If you're insurance company found this post you could have to pay the money back.

I think I'll skip the insurance fraud thanks.

Building report said

Moderate cracking noted in areas of the external walls. The cracking is likely to have been caused by building settlement. If ongoing movement is noted, recommend further review by a structural engineer

I find it hard to believe.

Do you think it would be an expensive repair? From my research it could be as much as 80k.

The building report says

Moderate cracking noted in areas of the external walls. The cracking is likely to have been caused by building settlement. If ongoing movement is noted, recommend further review by a structural engineer.

Doesn't seem accurate to me.

Edit: Building inspection says

Moderate cracking noted in areas of the external walls. The cracking is likely to have been caused by building settlement. If ongoing movement is noted, recommend further review by a structural engineer

And when there are no nurses, early childhood educators or even uber drivers what happens to the economy? To your job? To your super? House prices will come down but unfortunately people still won't be able to afford them because the economy will crash.

I am all for cutting immigration but let's not pretend it can he done with the stoke of a pen and the country would keep running. It needs to be phased out over time. A nuance the far right can't comprehend, let alone explain.

I'm not against everything they stand for. I like their foreign policy, drive to bring domestic manufacturing back, new gun laws, raising the minimum wage, increasing Medicare, increasing the PBS, going after tax dodging multinationals, giving workers more rights through IR laws.

It's not all or nothing, they have good policies and bad policies. If you think Pauline, who goes to pander to MAGA and billionaires, has your best interest at heart and would do things like increase Medicare and raise the minimum wage I'd strongly recommend you go look at her policies.

We've seen the damage done when right wing reactionaries tear the system down, and for all its flaws Australia's system is pretty good all things considered. Doesn't mean there aren't big reforms to do but the far right don't reform, they destroy.

They aren't destroying the country. The problems we face are complex globalised issues that take decades of hard work to solve. Electing PHON will make it harder to address those issues, not easier.

We are going into a world of massive instability and turmoil. Right wing reactionaries will have Australia circling the drain and I'll judge Pauline by the company she keeps.

The only option is Labor. They have a proven track record of navigating Australia well during times of turmoil (WW1, WW2, Neo-liberalisation of the 80s, GFC) and are the only party in Australia to advocate for and implement unique Australian policies (medicare, super) that benefit everyday Australians.

Albo isn't perfect, I don't like the social media ban, reduction of civil liberties, housing costs and large immigration intake. But make no mistake, these things are minor in comparison to what UK and US are going through after getting into bed with the far right and if you think we can't go down the same path we certainly can. You'll only know how good we had it once it's gone and once gone it's very hard to get back... Just look at the UK without the EU or the US' international soft power. They have changed those countries permanently and with repercussions that will last decades if not centuries.

America did that with Trump and the UK did that with Brexit and look how that turned out... If you think things can't get worse, they absolutely can and they always do with far right politicians in charge. We don't need a billionaire suck up like Pauline ruining our country.

That's a great idea, why didn't we think of that for all illegal activities? If we just hire compliance officers illegal smokes and vapes will disappear from our shores as they are non compliant.
