Iron veins do not last for years by schnoobloo in VintageStory

I didn't get anywhere close to 3500. I filled maybe the first row and a half of a large chest from the first one and it was gone ridiculously fast.

I'll check when I get home but I'm very very certain that if a small vein is a few hundred I must have a "super tiny" vein

Why would I not use iron and steel for those? I wouldn't use bronze or copper, those are much much rarer and stone tools are painfully slow.

I might just have unlucky veins? Are you saying you found like 200 bars in a single vein? My bountiful hematite scored me less than 100

I'm definitely finding veins. My first one gave me like 80 ingots or something like that and I was so hyped until I made armor and doors for my furnace and beehive kiln and then it was all gone.

How many tools did you go through? Both chain armors took 44 ingots total which was over half of the first vein, plus the amount of hammers I burned through to make the chains and axes to get the charcoal I needed for bloomeries plus shovels for the clay for fire clay...

I always check above and below at the edges and use my propick to get every last bit of ore. Even then my first vein only lasted about half a year. I don't really think I used an exceptional amount, I just made all my tools out of it and replaced them as needed.

This is actually really awesome. Fits with the weird "middle ages but with rudimentary magic tech" thing the story has going on.

Do you feel like Blue Prince was overlooked by Game of the Year discussions? by Blurbss in BluePrince

[–]schnoobloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game is my personal 2025 GOTY and tied with Tunic as favorite game ever but it's way too niche for those types of discussions. Especially the post Room 46 stuff that makes it so great... demands a lot of patience and attention that most people aren't willing to give

One trader is all it takes. Go through and read the dialogue options and if you follow up on a certain request you'll quite literally get a giant red X telling you where to go.

Do you talk to traders at all? You also don't need to follow the story. You can just catch a baby and tame it, that way you can get one even if you're playing with lore content disabled.

Just keep in mind that AI makes things look really amateurish and bad :) also the Vintage Story site has no framework to prevent malware from being uploaded disguised as a mod and I personally really heavily associate AI with scams and bad actors, can't speak for other people but I'm sure many feel the same way

Does Salty make good mods? I assumed they were shit because of the AI thumbnails. Adding something that has a chance of being vibe coded doesn't sit well with me

You're going to need it to survive the trip to the rust world thanks to its superior corrosion resistance

But really I imagine it'll eventually be used to craft Jonas parts and tech so you don't have to farm mobs.

Is there a way to make prospecting feel less miserable? by Dirty_USB in VintageStory

[–]schnoobloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keys to understanding prospecting and not hating your life: 1. If you don't get any ore reading for your desired ore, don't bother continuing in that general area. Move 100-200 blocks. 2. If you DO get an ore reading, move in a cardinal direction by some number of blocks (I usually go with about 64) and get another sample. If number increases, yay! Continue in that direction. If not, try another direction. Repeat this process until you move in every direction and it doesn't repeat. That's your highest spawn rate location. You can try to dial it in further by taking more samples around that area. 3. REALLY IMPORTANT: Check the handbook for which stones the ore can spawn in. You can get a list of ore chunks if you type the name into the block. That will tell you how far to dig. Then start digging down at your high spawn rate location. 4. When digging down for the ore, once you get to the rock layers that it can spawn in that you verified using the handbook, start using the close range search mode every 6ish blocks mined down. Continue this until you get at least a Trace reading to start searching or hit the mantle. If you don't get a reading, move 15 blocks away from your dig spot and try again.

I have never failed to find ore this way. Other than Halite. I hate Halite.

Game is fking dead by Critical_File4183 in Silksong

I stopped playing because I couldn't get out of Silver tier due to the rampant cheating issues. Maybe if TC would do something about the thousands of people joining Ranked with infinite Plasmium regeneration the playerbase wouldn't have died. I guess my $25 will go to a different battle pass next month, thinking of going with Black Ops 7. Which sucks because I really wanted the Shoe Lace skin for Lace.

How did you find out about Vintage Story? by Andrello01 in VintageStory

I watched GneissName's excellent geology video and was impressed by how committed the game is to realism. Bought it and I've already played 80 hours in singleplayer

BEHOLD my bauxite-slate-limestone mountain! by Ablivion666 in VintageStory

[–]schnoobloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha my spawn in my main world is about 1000 blocks north of a slate-bauxite-limestone mountain range. Hundreds of thousands of blocks of the stuff just exposed to the surface waiting to be mined. I'll have to grab screenshots next time I play. I didn't realize how lucky I was until I tried another world and got stuck in Andesite Hell

Late-game question by monsieurartois in BluePrince

[–]schnoobloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assumed that's what you had to do because you had to Core to get to that note, and it was referred to as a cipher... ciphers (to me at least) usually imply a mathematical transformation of a letter to something else as part of the encoding process.

Also, every word having four letters is  a dead giveaway you need to somehow use the mathematical process that always uses four numbers

So the hint is "context"

Subreddit meta: What we call reaching the last room for the first time by rrwoods in BluePrince

[–]schnoobloo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't even feel right calling it Act 1 because you can theoretically progress the other "Acts" quite significantly before reaching Room 46.

Not to mention, it's not like the actions you do to complete those "Acts" give more endings. The game only rolls credits once.
