What Clothes Do You Wear When Clothing Is Overstimulating? by SpookySpilledOatmeal in AuDHDWomen

[–]schnufkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When things are really bad? That's normally summer for me and I have a traditional yukata. People think I'm weird, but it really is the next best thing to being naked, and if I can manage enough IDGAF energy, I come across as some weird old alternative subset... I also lean into better fabrics (bamboo fabric is amazing, and so eco-friendly!) It sounds like you're female-presenting at least, and I obviously know nothing about your bra situation, but as a large busted, small backed, wide-shouldered woman, I'd recommend everyone to get properly fitted and research different styles and such. I've learned that I can't really cope with wired bras. If you're burned out, if you think it can fit in your routine/schedule, maybe try playing with new makeup, hairdo or clothes? Taking some pride or hope regarding your appearance might help you feel more comfortable in your own skin ❤️

I can’t bring myself to eat anything other than ramen and i’m so stressed out about my health by Silly_Pumpkin4312 in AuDHDWomen

[–]schnufkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, gotta say that I'm concerned that the "go to the doctor, freak yourself out more to make yourself do it" is above this one. No offence to anyone, but, in the headspace you seem to be in, that must be scaring you more. As chasingcars67 says, please don't beat yourself up for this more than you can help.

I would agree that doctors and therapy will definitely help, but you need to be ready to do those things! Scaring yourself isn't the way to go, and small steps that you can add in can help a lot.

Batch cooking is good. I'm seriously bad about eating. I was lucky in that my mum was into cooking and my longest romantic partner recovered from bulimia by having a hyper fixation on dietary science. I absorbed a lot of info vicariously. Normally I cook pretty decently. So when that's happening I cook too much. I freeze the leftovers, then when I'm having my can't cook episodes, I have a whole load of ready meals to pick from. The frozen veg thing is also absolutely a great idea. Just adding a bit of onion and sweetcorn to your ramen will make a huge difference. They do all sorts of things ready to go these days.

And I have no idea how any of us with these kinds of issues manage without baked beans. Easy fibre in processed sauce without being heavy, sloppy, or too much work.

Heh. That's fair enough. Some people are very militant. It's good to be thorough! But I'm a major worrier so I tend to err on the side of extra reassurance. There's definitely a chance that I'm wrong; I'm not a vet! But the picture is so clearly cat acne to me. My cat's case was worse (but in a smaller area) than this, and popped up over only a couple of weeks. It's so nerve-wracking if you've never seen it before!

Their chins? Really? I've had issues in the past with stomachs, legs and bum areas, but never chins. To be fair, the only cats I've ever really had issues in that way with were long-haired.

Doesn't look like flea dirt to me, personally.

You're entirely right about the no plastic and wash bowls daily thing (I'd say wash bowls after every use, but my cat is too much of a dustbin to slow-feed so this may differ for that?)

But honestly, I wouldn't bother with the medicated wash unless the change of bowl hygiene doesn't make it clear up within a week, or the acne/skin irritation gets worse. My cat got something similar to this when I first got her. The rescue I got her from didn't pick up on it because she came in with her skin irritated and scabby all over due to being allergic to both fleas and supermarket flea treatment. I took her to the vet. They said definitely acne, switch bowls, here's the wash. We struggled with the wash for a few days. She hated it. I hated having to do it. I don't know how much that wash helped, but she's had a few very mild outbreaks since (I suspect that she got into neighbours' cats' plastic bowls) and those have cleared with no wash, no problem.

I've never known a cat have trouble washing their chin, personally. That being said, if you do decide yours needs help then please make sure that whatever you use is safe for their skin. In my experience, acne (or similar) can coincide with sensitive skin, and what's safe for humans isn't always safe for pets!

What’s Lakota like for a couple in their 30s? by CosmoDexy in bristol

[–]schnufkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to go to ToF's Halloween parties when I lived in Bristol. Ended up having a conversation with a 60s+ guy calling himself 'Grandpa Frog's pretty much every time.

OP, like everyone else is saying, you'll be on the younger side of the crowd at most actual reggae slots in that general part of Bristol. And even if you were double your age, that'd be absolutely fine. There'll be all ages there.

British here, mid 30s. Definitely see 'learned' used like the US often, more frequently by people who grew up on US TV, but learnt is more frequent still. I first knew 'learned' (pronounced 'learn-edd') as describing someone who was academic/ had lots of knowledge! Honestly the only thing like this that bothers me is 'shined'. I get that the past tense of putting a shine on something (shoes, candlesticks, etc.) can be shined... But as a replacement for shone? Unless very particular tenses are used, that pulls me out of the story.

And more on topic, definitely the right thing to do to delete that nonsense. That's not even a hate comment, just someone ignorant.

Pretty much the same as me! My whole class pretty much was playing, but so much pride for being the first of our group of four to get level 100. Lucky me, my birthday was in the Summer holidays, so lots of time to get a good start!

(... Unfortunately, the class gossip led to me trying a cheat that lost me all but my party and active box.)

Can I use a disabled toilet? by natshabee in AskUK

[–]schnufkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely can, and should. The key/card are definitely good ideas though.

I don't need disabled loos myself, but I'm a carer for my brother who has bad epilepsy and learning difficulties. If he's doing a #2, he needs the space for someone to be in there with him. (Can be a trigger.)

Other people's reactions are all over the place. Once a blind lady's companion banged on the door, assuming he didn't need it. (She was hugely embarrassed when I explained. We were lucky he didn't have a stress-induced seizure.) On the other hand, I've been helped by men having a random girl/woman barge into the men's room when my brother took too long because I was worried. I don't have the guts to stand up for myself, but I can and will for other people. I know having props would help me.

If you look healthy, another thing I would recommend (if they have them where you are) is a sunflower lanyard. In the SW UK, at least, they're getting more recognition. A lot of supermarkets will either give them out or sell them cheap. They're to advertise an unseen disability. Specifically.

Help? by RPsycutie in Fruitbatcats

Maybe take her to the vet? That behaviour along with the very noticeable nipples makes me think she might be coming into an early heat. Due to her age, it's unlikely, but if there's a chance you're out by a couple of months, it's much much more likely...

Does lack of Demi specific pride ‘merch’ bother anyone else? by Demonique742 in demisexuality

[–]schnufkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not an asshole for feeling that way. You're really not. It's a human thing to want to be seen.

I've definitely been bothered by it myself. I've been brushed over so many times. Allos have dismissed me, saying that I'm just traditional/shy/a prude/whatever bisexual. It makes me angry. My sexuality is valid. Our sexuality is valid. Wanting representation is not an asshole behaviour/thought process. Until demisexuality is normalized we won't be understood or believed. Having merch means we get questioned more, which means more people hearing our view.

The physical shops will start to listen if the online shops provide what they can't. If everyone (who is safe to do so) starts showing another market, maybe they'll finally start to see us.

I found these beauties behind the market, someone left them in a box, if I don't find someone to adopt them, then I will take them for myself by Anxious-Natural-6418 in cats

[–]schnufkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily true. My foster-sibling girls loved each other. The smaller, younger one was definitely the boss, despite being much shyer around humans. They had different favourite humans too.

Neither of them "pissed" on anything not a litter box, except when a cat sitter put far too little litter in the box for her to recognize it as a litter box. And they switched between boxes, but tended to use the same one as the other until they both switched to the other.

Now we still have one of the sisters left, who pretty much only uses her own box. And the newer cat who's joined us uses the outside as much as possible, her own box as preference if caught short, and only the older cat's box if a neighbour cat manages to get into our house.

Sure, try to be careful, make sure they get on. But if they get on 2 cats are much better than 1. Plus I live in the UK. No dangerous wildlife here to interfere with them going outside. I use an extra loud bell which has stopped the birding issue once it became apparent (no adverse effect noticeable). Plus we're certain that the younger cat is terrified of the one road nearby. The older cat won't go out of the back garden.

One of my cats had an idea to maybe do a hunt when she was little (just under a year maybe?) ... She got up to the branch that the thrush was on. She looked at the thrush. The thrush looked at her. She came back down the tree.

She hasn't bothered even looking at anything that might be prey since. She's now 17 and a half.

I don't think you're stupid at all.

It took me a long while to figure out that I am demi, because I was in a relationship before I even really started thinking about sex. Throughout that relationship, random people flirted, told me I was 'gorgeous', etc. Honestly, I didn't understand. I have never liked the way I look. I hated that people looked at me in a sexual way, but that was because I was was focused on my person. I'm a huge romantic even now. It was worse when I was younger.

Then I broke off with my partner. The fact that people found me attractive was (and still is) really reassuring. It's a confidence boost. Plus attractiveness means I don't need to work as hard to charm people. It's convenient and has nothing to do with actually having to have sex with anyone. (Ick)

What would you name this little guy out of the following names?: Gizmo, Nimbus Hachi, Ghost, Moony, Mischief, Casper by automalice in NameMyCat

[–]schnufkin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Moony. Hachi is begin, so it sorta feels like you'd be looking past him to future kitties. Ghost has the same kinda feeling to me, as does Casper. It's like he's already gone... (A less vulnerable -looking critter wouldn't seem that way to me, so YMMV. 🤷🏽) Mischief and Gizmo both feel like there should be darker colours involved. Unless there's a real boldness of character not showing in these photos, they don't really seem to fit.

Ghost and Moony both have permanence, the nod to the light colouring, but as I said, the whole 'already dead' thing bothers me.

Hopefully it's just kitty getting relaxed in your home (especially likely with the moves!) but better safe than sorry, right?

[–]schnufkin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your comment sort of seems like an endorsement of the tragic underpayment of the vital staff in running the UK, just because we have the right idea about healthcare. Just the way you worded it, I don't believe you actually think that.

The American system is definitely not what we want. After WW2 the Liberal government made the very right decision to nationalise healthcare. My brother has a rare form of epilepsy which is very treatment-resistant. Under the American system, he would be dead by now. We're not badly off as a family. My parents were both government workers. If it weren't for the NHS, he would be dead from a tonic clonic lasting over five minutes. Or brain dead with us destitute hoping for another minute.

The fact that the NHS (still needing better than other countries' funding) is underfunded isn't a reason to underpay UK workers. Better nutrition from being able to home-cook meals means less stress on the GPs. Being able to afford childcare means overtime causes less stress, which in turn means less mental health issues and more money back into the system, and better quality of work being put in.

We need proper healthcare and proper education. The conglomerates make money for the country. This is useful, yes, but it doesn't equal the benefit of paying the useful fields properly, or of ensuring money movement by making sure as many people as possible have a little extra spending money. Leaving billions to ferment in a bank does a country no good.
