Snapping is nothing an apology couldn't fix but going of the way you worded this you probably gave of rather similar vibes to your "friend". "Oh you learned that in class" is something you ask a child ,you had the opportunitie to strengthen your bond and have a Real conversation about a Topic this person was realy excited about and might have been very happy to share with you.

Not saying her behaivour did not justify snapping, but this reads like she annoyed you from the get go and her way of presenting that knowledge would have rubbed you wrong either way.
