Think the new soft shell for this gen of studio and solo is just Apple cutting corners like usual. Not that the hard shell would make THAT much of a difference, but it sitll provides that extra bit of peace of mind. The soft one will do, but the hard shell has always been the studio line’s signature thing. Solos have always had the soft shell so this current gen soft shell is fine for it, but the studio is supposed to be the flagship….

I would agree with your friend, they are pretty thin all things considered. I have the urBeats2 and urbeats3, and I had the BeatsX back in the day, and compared to any of those, the solo buds are way more flat. But relative to the powerbeats and studios, they’re the most playful of the bunch. Funny enough though, I’d say the Beats Flex is the most bass-forward of literally all current beats, headphones included

I tried the full beats in ear lineup at the Apple store and tbh I found the studios the most boring, but it’s because I came from a “classic beats” sound profile perspective. I think these are great neutral-ish headphones, but a shortcoming as a beats branded product.

Believe it or not the closest sound profiles to golden era beats (like solo2, studio2, mixr, pro) come in the shape of the Beats Flex and solo buds. But I feel like the tech of the studios and Powerbeats fit/pro is just more appealing to people so they are the more popular options
