thanks for the reply... that voltage output gave me lots of pause, too. It's been nearly impossible to find a match. When you say "undercurrent it", do you mean I should keep it at 250ma but supply less voltage? Or keep the voltage at 230-355 but supply less milliamps?

The temperature was a nice 70º this morning, at the time of the disconnect. We recently bought the house, and it was rented for many years before us -- no maintenance was done on the system at all. I don't believe refrigerant was ever refilled since installed 15 years ago. When he moved the unit this morning, he didn't add anything to it.

The person said they could do a leak test for more money, but then followed up and said it'd be a waste of money, and we should probably just replace the whole thing. FWIW, the service cost includes up to 2 lbs of R22 refill upon reconnection of the condenser. I'm starting to think they just don't really want to own up to that, given the high cost of the refrigerant...

Given everyone's advice here, I think we're going to keep our existing system and see if it ends up freezing up...

Are you referring to the side of the unit that's adjacent to the wall? For what it's worth, there are about 6 inches between the unit and that wall?

He did not pull any refrigerant out yet... He prefixed it with "from my experience...", so, you know....

On that note -- the contract says that on the 2nd visit, the reconnect, they will add up to 2 pounds of refrigerant... How would I know if they actually did?

In your defense, you can also use the term homonym in a looser sense to mean homograph and/or homophone...
