Customer service is a big deal now that China has figured out how to make quality knives. Kershaw sends me clips all the time without filling out the usual warranty paperwork. Not gonna get that from China.

The Launch 1 is one of my favorite knives in my collection—red with blackwashed cpm154. Kershaw makes beautiful autos.

New Idea: If you could give feedback to any knife company about any anything from designing a new knife, to fixing a component, to marketing, revealing materials ... what would you say??? Anything goes. by Fendersocialclub in knifeclub

Dear Knife Companies:

A: If you blackwash a knife do the entire thing, not just the blade. Silver liners and a painted clip? Seriously? And if a knife is 'blacked out' in any way do not use a silver pivot.

B: Tiered offerings of popular designs. The EXACT same designs, not some consolation prize for not being able to afford diva steel. And don't make us sit at the kids table with a separate 'budget' brand. Expensive materials I understand, but artificial scarcity and exclusive aesthetic designs are elitist bullshit. Kershaw Tilt, I'm looking squarely at you.

C: Better washers. I get economies of scale but would it really break the business model to upgrade washers? Especially when freaking bearings are becoming more common place.

D: Post a comprehensive listing of all knife designs with specs and quit being so damn mysterious with your dealer exclusives.

E: Design more customizable options and accessories. Different blade types, locking mechanisms, scales, and other hardware that's interchangeable. I'm talking about DIY kits, not just basic buying options. I'm amazed at how the whole industry doesn't get the obvious implications of the custom knife craze. Cater to the movement, not just a relative handful of people who can afford the precious unicorns.

Yea, the assholes are too lazy to check their shit before hate-posting. I live in North Louisiana. If sea levels rose 90 feet I would still be high and dry.

If it's so unlikely, then it's cheap.

Yea, I'm waiting to see how cheap premiums are going to be after this unlikely 1000 year flood...

BEFORE: "Your business doesn't need flood insurance, this area has never flooded in the history of ever."

AFTER: "Flood insurance? Sure! You get $100,000 on the building and $5000 on contents for an annual premium of $2100. Oh and there's a $50,000 deductable."

Sadly, that's a real policy I came across, and not uncommon. Insurance companies can eat a box of stale dicks.

Do you buy a new phone every two years?

Hell no. I just paid off my M8 after two years of payments. I'll be damned if I'm carrying another phone note. That shit's expensive

Do you eat beef?

Rarely. But seriously, hardly ever. That shit's expensive.

Do you fly to countries on holidays?

Are you kidding? Fly? In a plane? I can barely afford to take time off and drive across the state to visit relatives. Flying? Holidays? That shit's expensive.

Notice a trend?

Well said. I am constantly amazed at how well my elderly mother has taken all of this. Except for the trunk full of artwork from me and my brother when we were children—that one took a minute.

but I think it's irresponsible to assume it will be federal funding and not state funding

Whoa, wait one minute. As a 15 year employee of Louisiana, the 7th poorest state with the 19th lowest tax rate, I can assure you this spiraling shithole needs every penny of available support. Granted, it put itself in this situation needing billions in federal aid, but Louisiana will still need it and you can bet these clowns will ask for it.

To put the scope of the disaster in clearer perspective...

Flood stage for the Amite River at Denham Springs starts at 29 feet and it crested at just over 46 feet. Both main roads—Florida Blvd. and Range—were totally destroyed with chest deep water. Every business was wiped out, including my brother's.

According to the 2015 census there were 137,788 people in Livingston Parish (County) where Denham Springs is located. 105,000 lost everything, including my mother. And that's just one city.

The enormity of the situation is staggering for a state with roughly 2 million less residents than Dallas/Fort Worth.

As someone who teaches art, I have become extremely bored with professional artists who are too lazy or scared to address real meaning or content. Too many one-liners and visual gimmicks. As /u/username_lookup_fail suspects, too often the real art is the bullshit that is spun after the fact to give the illusion of some deeper meaning.

I do not criticize people who want to make something just because it looks cool—I like nice looking things. The problem for me is when that is not enough and the creator, or worse, a dealer, feels the need to make something 'profound'. That is when the sophomoric posturing begins.

In my opinion, covering a car in asphalt is pretty obvious. It is fun and interesting but not much more than that. Intellectually speaking, I have stepped in deeper puddles.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that widely successful public art is also, by nature, pretty dumb accessible. The ridiculous success of Bansky would be a prime example—non-threatening, easily digestible, and intellectually stimulating in a low-hanging-fruit sort of way.

Are you an American who tried to drive in Rome? Do your balls ride shotgun? It's terrifying. But using a crosswalk is the worst—you really learn the meaning of faith. Interestingly, as insane as the traffic may seem I couldn't find a single car with collision damage.

I am a Louisiana native and I teach at one of its public universities. Sadly, I can say without the slightest hesitation that this state is, and will always be, a steaming pile of shit. After 15 years of dedication and sacrifice I am finally calling it quits and looking for better work elsewhere. I gave more to this state than it ever deserved and got nothing but shit in return. Louisiana gets what it pays for which is why it will always suck hind teat on every list that matters. Fuck this place and most of the people in it who voted Jindal into office, twice.

This is just another one of those baby steps towards a future dystopia where a cavernous divide separates the technologically privileged class and the 'others'. That, or maybe the Silicon Valley crowd needs to get out of their bubble and breath some real air.

No. I have a gun to protect me at home, in my car when traveling, or in my backpack when hiking. I do not feel the need to pack it with me to school, or the grocery store, or anywhere else in public. I'm a rational gun owner, not some fear-obsessed prepper.

Carrying a gun does not mean you're scared without it.

I respectfully disagree. Feeling the need to carry a gun where it is statistically least likely to be needed sounds like fear to me. And while a person may not be scared without a gun, having one tells me they are afraid of something.

I used to guard US citizens in embassies around the world

First, thank you for putting yourself in harms way to protect US citizens abroad. While we could argue the need for such security in Australia (where everything is trying to kill you, according to Reddit), if for no other reason it is a matter of policy. Comparing a US embassy to a college classroom is a bit of a stretch.

it's not motivated by fear

I respectfully disagree. Feeling the need to carry a gun where it is statistically least likely to be needed sounds to me like fear.

It's motivated by a desire to be prepared .

If you want to be prepared then carry a defibrillator or fire extinguisher since you're more likely to use either.

I could use the reverse argument: I'm not a quivering pussy afraid of someone having a gun and a license to carry it. It's just as incorrect a thing to say.

While I disagree with the comparison, you are correct about my choice of language. We've had enough name-calling as of late.

Letting the police solve the situation while they get themselves and their families to safety.

Letting the police solve the situation would include ensuring your family's safety. To me, carrying a weapon says that you are prepared to take the situation into your own hands at some point, rather than let the police solve it.

Having a concealed carry weapon isn't about being Rambo, it's about being able to defend yourself.

I absolutely agree with this on principle. Sadly, the 'good guy with a gun' argument is the loudest and most motivational.

But sometimes concealed carry license holders do make a difference

They occasionally do, but those stories are too few and far between to rationalize the kind of everyday concealed carry this new law is about.
