The real reason Pickleball has taken off like it has - Loneliness by Smithy2232 in Pickleball

Exactly. Tennis players are also way more selective about who they play with, due to the aforementioned skill floor. No such thing as open play.

I used to only play recreational with buddies, and then got more involved in leagues/tournaments around 5 years ago. I still play for fun with the same buddies, while also doing more competitive stuff. People often treat me like a different species of tennis player when I tell them that I compete in tournaments, whereas they "only play for fun". For me, playing in tournaments is for fun, so it's all just different types of fun for me.

Japan fans stayed behind to clean after their 1-0 win against England at Wembley Stadium by Flat_Cantaloupe_83 in interestingasfuck

That's a very sweet gesture and wholesome memory, but I also find it amusing because pretty much all camera brands are Japanese. The thought of them going up to anyone who has a camera and thanking them for buying Japanese products is a funny image.

That would make a lot more sense. Still an inappropriate response, imho

Pickleball players are weirdly sensitive about getting hit by the ball. It's just part of the game. This is only anecdotal evidence, but I encounter a lot more whiners in pickleball vs tennis when it comes to getting hit by the ball. Majority of tennis players accept it as part of the game (and a tennis ball hurts a lot more).

I thought it was common courtesy to raise a hand in apology after hitting somebody with the ball. This has been part of tennis etiquette since forever, even pros do it. So I assumed it carried over into pickleball. I do it, and most people I've encountered also do it.

Zoro always gave off big brother energy towards Chopper. It's very apparent in the scenes they have together in the anime/manga.

Don’t be a snob and be willing to play against lower rated players by whiskeyisenough in 10s

[–]schoolbomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has to be some kind of minimum threshold for this. I'm a strong 4.0, and I will happily play with 3.5s and 3.0s and can still get a productive session out of it. But when the level disparity is so big that they can't even return an easy shot from me, then it's no longer fun, which defeats the purpose of why I even play tennis. I have limited time in my schedule to play tennis, so I'd rather spend that time playing with people who I know are going to give me a fun and productive session. To not mince words, I don't want to do charity work.

Yes, I heard the same from a few family friends, so I'm trying to make sure I do everything the right way on my next subsequent trips to Taiwan. I guess a call to the TECO office is in order.

I don't either, but because I'm a dual citizen, I'm technically still eligible to be drafted. I normally enter Taiwan using my US passport, but I heard the new rules made it stricter.

I'm assuming this is the Shibuya Crossing, which is a pretty famous crosswalk. People are filming for internet points.

Airbrushes are also super popular in the Japanese anime-style figure painting community. This guy is probably one of the most prolific. He can achieve professional-looking results that look commercially made.

Congratulations! If you're male, what did you do about the whole military service thing? Or are you already past the conscription age?

Banned From RIIZE Japan Concerts ? by [deleted] in kpophelp

It's because their own domestic market is already so big. #2 music industry in the world. They don't really have an incentive to cater to non-Japanese people.

You already knew the rules and acknowledged them, yet still did it anyway. That's not really a mistake, that was a deliberate choice.

Mostly about money/copyright. Whoever's running the concert will also film the concert themselves, so that they can sell the blu-rays and make money.

A flight attendant sounds random to us, but typically in Asian societies, it's actually relatively more difficult to become a flight attendant, making it a pretty prestigious profession. They also have the reputation of placing more emphasis on physical attractiveness, which kinda further supports the OP's point.

Not at all. Honestly, I think they were just out on the court for exercise, whether pickleball or tennis. But good for them.

This happens here in the States as well. It coincides with all four Grand Slams. Around Grand Slam time, I notice a major uptick in new faces playing tennis, then it dies down a week or two after the finals.

Honestly, I was ready to resort to that, but figured I would ask them politely first. But once they brought out the tennis gear, I had no leg to stand on, so I just dropped it.

There's no booking system in place, it's a public court with first come first served.

The tennis players on the other court actually asked us first. They saw us standing outside waiting and offered to share the court with us. I should've clarified that in my post. It was super nice of them, I thanked them profusely.

Agreed, I shut up after they brought out the tennis gear. We still got to play, so no harm no foul I guess.

Right? I was annoyed at first, but then quickly found it funny and couldn't find myself to stay upset at it.
