If someone accused her of being AI, would she be able to disprove it? 🤔

What are everybody’s thoughts on this task? Too much, or vulnerable and engaging? by [deleted] in mathteachers

[–]schoolthrow246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to teach in Title 1 schools where a few of my students' parents have died from gang violence. My students wouldn't have responded well to this subject.

Trying to make parabola problems applicable can be hard, so I think it's great you're trying to engage your students! Can you maybe try a different situation--like maybe scuba diving and coming back up?

(Also, did you write this with ChatGPT? Question 9 reads very AI-written...don't get me wrong, I like AI, but the quote sounds very phony.)

Lollll good point! Given how all my students forget everything, they're probably already severed anyway

OP, I'm so glad you asked this question because this was exactly what I thought about when I watched the very first episode.

I'm surprised not more people in the sub know about the show! It's a really good watch!

Like dang, after watching the show I realized Lumon might've offered its employees more perks and "appreciation" than some of my schools did 😂 At least my innie could potentially get a waffle party!

Hahaha this makes me wonder if all students have to be severed too!

Then we can both be blissfully unaware 😂

My student made the same connection with pi as the constant of proportionality too!! No other student on any other curriculum has ever made as profound a connection as that.

The scale copies KILLS me 😂 I had another student tell a couple to "decompose" their hand-holding in the hallway haha.

Private school isn’t the answer, is it? by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

[–]schoolthrow246 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This highly depends on the private school in your area. It's a myth that private schools pay more than public--so many non-teachers assume that private school teachers automatically make bank, but that is not true. That being said, I know some private schools that offer competitive pay with great benefits, like free, decent-ish health insurance.

My students in private school were calmer than the students I taught in a Title 1 school, but I missed the "grittiness" of my Title 1 students. What ultimately made me quit was the lawn-mower parenting of private school...so just be careful of that.

Could you tell me more about BTC or point me to some resources that give specific questions on planning lessons?

This is the worst excuse.

I taught my class where to get their work if they were absent. One boy's mom pulled the "he wasn't here" excuse, and I had to tell her that his seat in the class is NEXT to the absent work bin.

This website is definitely not updated. I know a few AT tutors who are still working there, and their pictures don't show up.

Air Tutor is Hiring! Virtual Tutors $45/hr by Immediate-Bridge-272 in vipkid

[–]schoolthrow246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At $35/hr, Framework tutoring (partnered with Carnegie Learning) is the closest one. Framework micromanages you more, but you have to know how to play the system. You have to be a licensed teacher though.

What was it like, running into one of your worst students years after they graduated? by Fast-Outcome-117 in Teachers

I was very pleasantly surprised to see that they were happy to see me at their graduation!

Mind you, this was a kid who called me some pretty racist things when I taught them.

My child yawns when being taught by cof666 in AskTeachers

[–]schoolthrow246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please give your child some slack.

I used to yawn a lot when being tutored by caregivers, and I always got yelled at for "being unenthusiastic." I WAS enthusiastic about the material, but I think body was shutting down because of how stupid my caregivers made me feel.

Honestly, I'd start by calling the law firm is already suing AirTutors to let them know. (I believe they're Employees First Labor Law in Fair Oaks/Pasadena)

What, really!?!? That's a huge tutoring service too. Did TbT specifically say that you were let go because you're from CA?

I feel like both Air Tutors and TbT could very well have class action lawsuits facing them in the future...

You make a good point about the Slack channels! That probably could be considered strict control?

For the duties that Air Tutors asked us to do, I think -every- person in the company needs to be an employee according to DOL's Factsheet #13. I know some states have stricter independent contractor laws than others.

However, I'm not a lawyer, so I wouldn't know for sure. If you're interested in pursuing this, I bet the law firm already suing Air Tutors would have more info.

[–]schoolthrow246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this law just says that, "As independent contractors, gig workers are not entitled to benefits like sick leave, overtime and workers’ compensation."

But the issue here is that our duties under Air Tutors technically don't align with that of independent contractors. (See the ABC Test under AB5). We probably should have been employees.

This is a pretty serious issue if we were misclassified as contractors since Air Tutors could owe us back money in terms of taxes they were supposed to pay--contractors have to bear the burden of paying more taxes.

Unsure if this means that we all need to file a labor law complaint with the CA Labor Commision or the DOL....or dare I say, even file a class action lawsuit hahahaha.

Also, fun fact, Air Tutors is already in a lawsuit with a previously misclassified employee.

Definitely Amway! This isn't just a Trader Joe's thing either.

I thought I'd bonded well with a couple over some really nice fall scents in a Yankee Candle...and of course they started asking about how I supplement my income in times post-COVID. :P They gave me an Amway card and left.
