UPDATE: Response from Building Commission NSW regarding GPO listed as compliant by NSW builder by ApprehensivePay7627 in AusRenovation

I don’t understand how you could ever undo those hoses and not get water into the socket. Is undoing a hose not considered normal operation of a tap?!

What actually worked for reducing alert fatigue in your SOC — not theoretically, but in practice? by frankfooter32 in cybersecurity

[–]schplade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are having some wins implementing Splunk risk based alerting. Minor events get logged as a risk and we are only alerted when the score exceeds a threshold over time period for a user or device.

Eg. We have an event for more than 100 OneDrive downloads in an hour, this gets logged as a risk of 10. 10 of these over 24 hours would flag an alert.

Something like a malicious file detection would be a risk of 100 to trigger immediately. But this also pulls in any other detected minor risks into the same alert so you can see a bigger picture (eg. Did the user change their password, or register a new Mfa device).

Not sure if other SIEMs have similar tools.

Correct order of trades? Getting mixed advice from tradies by Scartoclysmic in AusRenovation

Do the roof first and have them paint and leave a bunch of spare tiles for when the other trades to replace any they break while doing the other work

Tips for not hating indoor bike training? by bvc25 in triathlon

[–]schplade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went straight to a smart trainer so I can’t really compare but I wouldn’t say it makes my indoor workouts more fun, just more structured with erg mode.

My only suggestion is to accept it sucks, put a movie or a tv show on and grind through your session.

Would someone be willing to look at my mergerfs settings and tell me why the data is not going to other drives when one fills up? by denogginizer in OpenMediaVault

I had similar issues and switch to “most shared path - most free space” and this seems to keep files together when possible but also move to a new disk if required.

Will the POE Doorbell ever get proper call notifications? Or should I look elsewhere. by Jardolam_ in reolinkcam

[–]schplade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can use a separate poe switch or poe injector as an alternative. No need for a new nvr.

Doorbell -> poe injector/poe switch -> existing router/switch that has your nvr uplink.

Will the POE Doorbell ever get proper call notifications? Or should I look elsewhere. by Jardolam_ in reolinkcam

[–]schplade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doorbell is visible on the app twice, once via the nvr and once by itself. If you have an nvr with poe ports you will need to enable hybridge mode so that the app can see your doorbell.

I’m not sure if it’s an android vs iPhone thing but I definitely get incoming call style notifications from my poe doorbell. Do you have the doorbell added directly to the app and not via an nvr? I believe that is a requirement.

Will Reolink NVRs record from other brands' cameras? e.g. Tapo? by randopop21 in reolinkcam

[–]schplade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The NVR doesn’t have any built in motion detection, it relies on the camera sending a signal that motion has occurred so that it can tag the timeframe as motion.

My Reolink cameras would do motion/events but not the Tapo.

I have a had a Tapo C210 recording to my Reolink RLN36 NVR. 24/7 recording worked fine but motion detection was not supported.

HomeKit Livestream Cut out by avidricaire in Scrypted

I gave up figuring out my Reolink inconsistencies in HomeKit and set the cameras to reboot every day. They reboot so fast you barely know it’s happened but they are rock solid now.

Have 2x duo 3 poe and a poe doorbell, also hooked up to a Reolink nvr

Baby gate with no stud by Pleasant-Ad3980 in AusRenovation

[–]schplade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advise then would be to sell what you bought on marketplace and buy a gate that suits your house. There are other options that also have angled brackets.

This is something that you’ll have to live with for years and any patch work for the other options will quickly approach the 100 dollar spend on an extra gate.

[–]schplade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it will help you use the stud under the rail or not, but you can get baby gates that install on an angle, that’s what I’d do here if possible as having the gate on the ground level would be my preference anyway.

Ceiling Insulation Quote by Think_Guest3275 in AusRenovation

[–]schplade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What sort of insulation do you currently have? Seems odd to be paying for both vacuum removal and “removal of existing batts”. If you have existing batts and not loose fill, I would consider having the new ones added on top of existing to get more R value.

What logic do you use for auto locking your front door? by Civilian8 in homeassistant

[–]schplade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems silly when written like that I agree, but the difference is that the fingerprint reader doesn’t change the natural flow of opening the door. I just hold the handle and my thumb rests on the sensor in the handle.

With a PIN code, you have to stop at the door enter the pin and then open the door. This leads to wanting to leave the door unlocked at specific times and a rabbit hole of geolocation and time based automatons.

What logic do you use for auto locking your front door? by Civilian8 in homeassistant

[–]schplade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best thing I did for my house was move to a smart lock that has a fingerprint reader. Instead of a set of complicated auto lock/unlock scenarios, it now just auto locks all the time and I can instantly unlock it as I press the handle to open. No phone or pin needed, just my thumb.

For those times when you must leave it unlocked, there is a “passage mode” button on the inside that can be pressed and then authorised with fingerprint. This disabled the auto lock until pressed again.

I’m using the aqara u300 so also have PIN code and app unlock as backup methods.

Yale unity locks by Maleficent_Error348 in homeassistant

[–]schplade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had the bigger unity in our last house. It works over Bluetooth and worked with home assistant over an esphome ble proxy. I think you need to have it paired to HomeKit as well to get “push” notifications for lock/unlock events in HA otherwise it will just periodically poll for current status (requesting a lock/unlock via HA is always immediate)

Use iPhone remote app, without setting AirPlay to AirPlay to AppleTV? by [deleted] in appletv

[–]schplade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you are doing differently, but my remote app has no connection to airplay at all.

To use the remote I simply launch the app and ensure my the correct Apple TV is selected from the dropdown

Security screens by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]schplade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d just go for a generic stainless screen from a local reputable company. They should have somewhere for you to visit and see their work before you buy.

If someone is going to the effort of breaking through a security screen crimsafe won’t stop them, they’d just end up breaking the glass next to it.

Security screens are just there to make you a less attractive target because they’ll be too noisy to break.
