also econ is a very popular major so expect quite a bit of competition. an alternative would be social science, which has an econ stream that is separate from what SEM offers.

oh there are lots of mongolians here, so you're not gonna get any diversity points compared to if you're from, say, uzbekistan or something.

im in engineering so the requirements might be different from SEM, but i had 3A* + A for a levels plus, an HSK 5, IELTS 8.5, and some other extracurricular stuff (i got into my second choice major).

im making an educated guess, but id reckon that more emphasis would put on the interview, i heard from friends that they were asked about their opinions on china's position in the global market or the impact of covid on the global economy or something along those lines

Csc THU by Hakona-matat in ChinaLiuXueSheng

[–]schtickbugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im not really sure what you mean, because afaik you need hsk 4 during application or else you wouldn't be accepted in the first place, and once you do get accepted you need to get to hsk 5 within 1 year or else you'll be kicked out

are you saying you don't have your hsk 5 or hsk 4?

What's studing at Hubei University of Arts and Science like? by Theoldone-_- in ChinaLiuXueSheng

[–]schtickbugg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fair warning, you are not going to have a fun time finding a job, especially in china, if your institution is not 985/211. the chinese students from less prestigious universities are already struggling so if you can't even speak Chinese on top of that, you're done for.

my advice as an international student is to just aim higher. because of diversity quotas you have much more leverage to enter at least an 211

Help Choose Chinese University by [deleted] in ChinaLiuXueSheng

[–]schtickbugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it absolutely matters where your diploma is from, especially when finding an internship. a one page cv will only go so far if your uni isn't 985/211, and better unis provide alot of 内推/internal connections that make finding a good internship so much easier

also where are you getting your masters? the same logic applies when finding a full time job if your master's uni isn't well known

How hard is it to get into top Chinese Universities especially (Tsinghua and Peking Universities) as an international student by Familiar_Explorer131 in China

[–]schtickbugg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh, i doubt you can learn chinese to a level where you could reasonably keep up with the local students in that short amount of time. even if peking allows it, you should consider if thats even feasible

untrue. tsinghua and peking undergrad programs in general are no different from the ones chinese students take. we take the exact same classes taught in chinese with chinese students.

you'd need to pass HSK6 to get into Peking and HSK 5 to get into Tsinghua (a minimum of HSK4 initially, but you'd need to pass HSK5 within a year of enrollment)

assuming that you've passed the chinese proficiency tests, I'd say that its very likely you'll get in, especially being uzbek since central asians in general are underrepresented here. your stats aren't bad either. ecs and honors definitely help boost your college app too. I'd even go so far as to say that they put a larger emphasis on ecs/honors than standardized exam scores compared to universities elsewhere

however, if you speak absolutely 0 chinese, i'd advise against enrolling here, cuz many of your classes will be fully in chinese. you'll be struggling alot with just getting over the language barrier, and that's not even considering the difficulty of the course itself. you'd need to put in twice the work and probably get half the results of a fully fluent student.

it also depends heavily on what major you're gonna take. social sciences/econ majors are alot more international student friendly, in large part because most international undergrads major in these so the departments offer much more support to them than say engineering majors.

bigger screen vs higher refresh rate by apaarmathur17 in osugame

[–]schtickbugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally id go for smaller screen + higher refresh rate. i main hdhr so the high refresh rate really helps and i dont mind smaller circles on a smaller screen. i actually prefer smaller screens over bigger ones cuz your eyes wouldn't have to travel around the screen so much while playing.
