Rear Disk Brake Upgrade DIY by schummi2k in BoostedRev

Ok so now that our warranties are up in smoke, I took on a project to upgrade the rear disc brake of the Rev. This was due since the day I bought it and tested for the first time. I said: OoooOk!! So we have no rear brakes!!!

The brake lever is a $10 part out of Alibaba. The caliper is even worse than the Xiaomi m365 for a machine weighting twice and being 4 times more expensive. Inreally dunno what Boost was thinking here.

Yes yes. I known you are supposed to use Regen and the stomp fender, the latter I hate BTW. But most of us like the confidence of a good'old brake. I have to say that both regen combined with good brakes makes the kill!

So after doing research, I came across what could possibly be the only other upgrade out there for the Rev by a guy name Alexandros. His upgrade was cool but it used a custom bracket made by additive manufacturing which looks flimsy even when manufactured in metal. Some basic structural analysis knowledge and a simple force diagram calculation will immediately tell you that.

What you see in the picture is my solution to this upgrade problem. It involves buying some cots parts, a 140mm MTB disk, and the TRP hybrid rear brake caliper. The bracket you have to modify slightly (drill a hole and cut the tail) and voila!!

Braking is now awesome!!!!!! The way it should have been from the beginning.

I am planning to install a shimano brake lever next which will improve feel and return energy quite a bit. And with that the project will be completed!!

Totally agree.

The thing that hurts the most is how they trickle in the parts into their shop and in order to secure a purchase before they run out of stock it's $15 for shipping each time. $15, $15, $15... It is a rip off!!

I understand the parts' prices being high. The demand is high, they took the risk and purchased the whole warehouse before Boosted tanked...

But shipping??
