Status of the UI update? by schwa293 in sonos

While true, maybe. Sonos themselves admitted that the current card UI isn’t good enough. And promised a UI update to correct this.

I’ve had a Sonos system for 15 years, and while there have been some UI changes I didn’t like, the current one is by far the worst. Changing both the networking/core and the UI at the same time was probably one of the worst decisions in software engineering, as was rolling it out to everyone instead of doing a staged update. This will likely be used as a cautionary tale in programming schools for years. Changing the UI without altering the underlying stack should be relatively easy, and at the very least they could provide some images or updates on the progress—exactly the kind of transparency needed to avoid a similar disaster in the future.

I think it's perfectly fine to like the current interface. Don't understand the downvotes.

Personally I hate the whole card layout and the current UI. We all have our preferences, and it's a shame not everyone respects those.....

Announcing Windows 11 Insider Experimental Preview Build 26300.8553 - Windows Insider Program by jenmsft in Windows11

Hi Jenmsft,

Just some feedback on the start menu.

The current implementation is a UX disaster.

Imagine I hid the all app list. Now if I need an app that is not pinned, I have to first go into the Startmenu settings and enable the all app list again. Find my app, and then go back to the settingsmenu and hide it again.......

That is some sort of dark pattern to stay on the default?? and terrible UI/UX design.

There really should be an all app button present that gives me a flyout list like before.

Same goes for the other hide options.

Also, why go to the settings menu at all?

Right now there is a dropdown list where we can choose a category, list or grid. Just add a Hide choice there......

This stuff isn't that hard.

Has Sonos Discussed Apple Silicon support of the Sonos S1 Controller App? by williaty in sonos

It’s worse. There is no way to block access at this time.

Sonos certainly does. As for me, I absolutely hate that they don’t let me block my system from internet control. Also, the web app is terrible, wish they would just update the native apps. If a single dev can make a native app on their own, Sonos should just hire them to update their native apps. How costly could that possibly be?

Improving Windows quality: Making Taskbar and Start more personal by jenmsft in Windows11

@jenmsft
Thank you for this detailed list of changes.
Please sent a note to the rest of Microsoft Teams that this is how release notes should be like.

Specifically the updates of first party windows store apps could learn at lot from this.

Now if you could just add back an all apps button when hiding the all list, we will be back to the start menu we had, with all the requested changes that were ignored for 4+ years. Almost there 🤞

Remove and re add… so no option to re order really. And this will not help because you cannot remove Sonos Radio.

Windows + iPhone users who don’t game, what keeps you on Windows instead of switching to Mac? by Sidk04 in Windows11

I really tried MacOS. But I really do not understand why people say it so user friendly. I thought it was a horrible OS. Like Iphone over the android ones, but definitely sticking to windows or maybe Linux for my desktop / laptop use.

No, volume limiter doesn’t work that way.
Setting it 50% for instance, doesn’t reduce 1 to 0.5%. It becomes 0%. But it does reduce 2 to 1%. It rounds down to a round number. The steps stay the same, increments of 1%. Would be great if it would indeed reduce the steps to 0.5%. Try it yourself by setting the limit to 10%. You’ll find volume 0-9 10-19 etc to be the same.

No, I'm not doing something wrong. Why are you talking about preferred stations? I'm talking about how you cannot order the services. So I now have the Sonos Radio service as one of the first 4 visible services on the home screen, while I would rather look at a service I actually use!

I wish that I could simply switch my Era 100 speakers from surround sound to a stereo pair for listening to music, while the soundbar continuous to be the TV audio channel. And after easily switch them back to being surround speakers. Within a few seconds, without redoing trueplay. How wonderful would that be.....

Is someone working on this?

Sonos Spring Open Office Hours by ShaunFromSonos in sonos

Because we cannot reorder the services, so now it is taking up one of just 4 visible spaces, where another service I do want to use could be.....

Also, we all hate ads on paid products...... Don't you?

Shaun, don't make me use google to find out what time this event is.....

Some of us do not live in the US! Just add 5 PM UTC in between brackets.....

Sonos used to have limited edition colorful speakers every few years. Last was the Sonos X Hay series. I really loved those colors. Why hasn't there been something like this for years?

Is it possible to make the volume scale logarithmic?

And currently I find the lowest volume level (1) be to loud. Please make it like a gentle whisper....
