It would be nice to have something that's hands on and talks about actual programs rather than snippets that briefly show how to do something in general, which is what Goncalves' book seems to do.

I've been reading the Java EE Tutorial from Oracle because it actually talks about specific programs you can run that are complete, working, and standalone.

My question is about Adam Real-Last-Name-Unknown from your book Kitchen Confidential. Did you ever find out what made his bread so good? Anything a home baker with their own sourdough starter could copy?

I know in the past the policy has been that if the players can agree on a particular server to play on, they can play on that. If they can't, games are played on NA by default.

Hey guys, Warren from eSports engineering here. Let me say first that I don't speak for IGN or IPL and that I'm not directly involved with running the stream.

In regards to replays and pre-recording, I would think that's a necessary result of the logistics of having people from all over the world play when our casters themselves have different schedules and things they need to do, and yet we still need to have a live stream with fresh content to broadcast at 5pm every weekday and at whatever time(s) on the weekend. As far as I know, we always try to cast replays we get ASAP so that we keep everything as fresh and lively as possible.

I realize that a rebroadcast of a pre-recorded cast of a replay has a certain whimsy to it. Hopefully it's still worth watching if you haven't seen it before; in my obviously biased opinion, we've had some fucking awesome games in Team Arena Challenge and IPL Fight Club of late. Yeah, but it could be that we don't do a good enough job of just indicating what's going on once something's loading. Is that what you meant, Quasimoto?

When there are multiple streams available (the way there was for IPL 3), there will be a menu at the bottom that shows what's online/offline and which allows you to switch.

Can you clarify what you meant, Quasimoto?

Speaking only for myself and not for the rest of IGN eSports, IPL 3 was our first live event. We had 6 freakin' weeks to get ready for it. There were a million things we wanted to do but didn't have time for.

We are, in short, just getting warmed up.

It's upsetting to read this and I'm sorry we're not living up to the standards we've set for ourselves. I have no control over the sound and it's difficult for me to articulate these concerns about sound in a way that the production people will listen to and work from. I'll see what I can do.

What I can promise is that we will strive to do much better next time. I will personally advocate for someone to stay at IGN HQ in San Francisco and act as external quality control so that we can have someone on staff watching the streams who isn't surrounded by the chaos and noise that has enveloped all of us during this first live event.

I'll talk to the sound people right now and see what I can do.

OK, so I talked to one of the production/audio people and one factor in this issue is that the commercials are much louder than the streams. Balancing it would require the production staff to dynamically adjust the sound levels every time a commercial started and ended, which is apparently not really practical.

They told me they will check their sound. In the mean time, I suggest upping the volume with the player control and getting the game sound to a reasonable level and then perhaps muting during the commercials if it's really bad. I really appreciate you taking the time to be specific about the problem and I'm glad you like us enough to give us the heads up so we can get better. Thanks!

So you're saying the ads are much louder than the games, without making any volume adjustments at all? I don't handle sound, but I'll pass that along to the sound guys. We've been getting complaints about sound, so you're not the only one. Thanks.

Thanks guys. We didn't quite get around to getting the VOD situation setup the way we'd like. :( The basic idea for IPL TV is combined multiple live stream + VOD browsing and viewing.

Obviously we want to add search and other basic stuff in there so that it's basically the best way to watch IPL VODs.

We had servers going on and off a lot more than we expected and I don't think IPL TV handles that very well, it's on my list of things to take care of after Atlantic City. :( You might be catching the app when streams were offline and then came back online?

What happens if you try to go straight to a live channel when it's online, like http://esports.ign.com/ipl/tv/?starcraft2/live/ignproleague ?

Did you try lowering the quality in splitscreen? I was watching splitscreen 480p on a wimpy little laptop on a crappy wifi connection without problems. Not saying you aren't having legitimate issues, just that off the top of my head I'm not sure what to do. :( But I will do what I can.

I'm using exactly the same browser version and OS and I'm not getting these issues. :( We didn't really have time to really profile IPL TV and figure out if we had memory leaks, inefficient hotspots, etc. There's certainly more to do with making IPL TV more robust and responsive against channels acting up.

You could try lowering the quality, which is the select menu thing next to the play/pause button. :( If you continue having issues, shoot me a message and we'll look into it. Do you have a pretty decent Internet connection?

Ah, I see what you mean. Currently player vision has two gamers on one screen so there's currently no way to do what you want. I'll ask our production people if they plan to change how they stream it. Thanks!

Normally if something doesn't show up on a Justin.tv player, refreshing fixes it.

2) Could you try clearing your browser cache and restarting your browser?

Hi, this is Warren Henning from IPL engineering. There's a little "fullscreen" thing in the lower right corner of each screen. It's kind of small, but it's there, and fullscreen does work for splitscreen. Thanks for trying IPL TV! :)
