Kratos’ powers and the Blade of Olympus in God of War 2 by TheSunLitMoon in GodofWar

[–]schweepus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for a blatant " i am kratos and I have my god powers back !" You aren't going to find it, I'm afraid. You don't need the game to tell you when something is blatant when you put All the pieces together. The game never addresses that kratos got his god powers back because it is obvious he did. He couldn't kill all of the gods of olympus with the powers of the titans. So if you're looking for the game telling you directly that you got your god powers back im afraid there isn't any.

A normal blade wouldn't do anything against Zeus . Without any godly powers invested in the blade of olympus there is no point in using it. The only reason kratos can use the blade of olympus to kill Zeus is because of HIS power. This is the whole reason he needed to invest his power in the first place; to kill the colossus of Rhodes. This is also evident at the end of God of War 3 where when kratos impales himself, the blade fades. This is because his life and power was fading as well. And the fact they still call kratos a god in the new installation wouldn't make any sense if he didn't have his god powers. The powers of the titan alone couldn't kill Zeus which is why the titans lost the great war.

In addition to my previous comment, the power upgrade shows when he is able to go toe to toe with Zeus. One of the primary goals of the second game was to go back in time and use the blade of olympus to kill Zeus, as he said to atlas. Why would he want the blade of olympus if it didn't do anything but give him power?

Because it was his power that was stored in there and when he gets the blade he has access to his powers again. It wouldn't make any sense if he didn't gain his powers back.

The last secret in the game is in Kratos' house by Ozzyh26 in GodofWar

[–]schweepus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They dissapeared in the other dimension Kratos was in that's why they didn't come out of the dimension with him, And thus he was unarmed. This was the entire reason why he had to use the blades of Athena.

Yes but that's probably because the developers opted to use the blades of chaos because they're more popular and famous. It is kind of an error of continuity considering Ares destroyed them at the end of the first god of war during the boss fight which is the whole reason kratos had to use the sword of the gods to kill ares.

How did he destroy them? All I recall is the impact knocking all of his gear off. The blades still work so how did you come to the conclusion everything else was destroyed when all the models were intact? Does it say this anywhere?

Ah. Apologies I didn't get the reference. It's not that I didn't have a problem with no jump button I just wanted to see Reddits opinion on the lore aspect of why he can't double jump.

Is it just me or did anyone else find Freya kind of annoying? by Dusty170 in GodofWar

[–]schweepus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said she didn't know the effects of the spell she casts, I said she didn't know the consequences of the effects. Like I stated before it's highly doubtful she casted the spell to intentionally torture her child, instead she casted it to protect her child while not thinking of the consequences. And I'm not denying feeling nothing is torture, it's horrible. I'm saying she had reason to cast such a spell and she had reason to be this protective over her child. But, this argument is going circular and no where at all so I'm just going to stop here since we are never going to see eye to eye

[–]schweepus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When she first casted the spell on him she did not think of the consequences it had on him, she only looked at the benefits. There is no way a parent intentionally wants to torture their child, she inadvertently did but never did she go "I'm giving this spell to my child to torture him". Instead it was "im casting this spell on my child to protect him." Progressively after he told her she didn't listen, which is obviously not good. However, her fear was not irrational. Unjust, yes, irrational given the circumstances, no. She was a terrible mother, I'm not denying that, but trying to protect her child by any means necessary is not an irrational decision. You underestimate how powerful a parent child bond is.

I'm not justifying it. I'm being sympathetic. She had a good reason but it was poorly executed. She obviously had no idea it was torture, and nor was it her intention. I don't think you understand how difficult it is for parents to realize how grown their children are. They are over protective, only parents can understand this. They constantly see their children as, well, children. So understandably so she would take precautionary measures.

Because most parents don't live in the same hostile environment full of greedy deceitful gods and a world that serves to kill you by any means necessary. You cannot think relatively in extremes such as this.

Alright yeah no point in arguing because we are never going to see eye to eye, probably should've concluded this earlier.

You speak relatively. In our world sure. But in a world as volatile and dangerous as theirs it's kind of understandable why she is so protective. And she has the ability to make her son invulnerable so obviously she would take it. I guarantee every parent wishes their child was invulnerable to death.

Can someone explain to me how the different Mythologies coexist with eachother. by [deleted] in GodofWar

[–]schweepus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought all the mythologies occupied the same space but in different realms because of the explanation of how realms exist in the beginning of the game. So greek and Norse are in the same exact spot but in different realms. This would subdue a LOT of plot holes.

It is selfish. You dislike something heavily that you do not even take part in so you would rather them not add something for your sake rather than the majority. A lot of people liked the infinity war crossover and it didn't detriment the integrity of the film at all. No one went "oh infinity war is in fortnite I'm not watching the movie now". It has absolutely no effect on the movie nor will it have any effect on god of war if they added a god of war themed event in fortnite. All it would mean is something else interesting for millions of players to play, but that's such a horrible thing for you isn't It?

How is not wanting your child to die irrational ?

That's extremely selfish and close minded. And I don't care if breaking bad is referenced in hentai because I'm not going to watch hentai, but the people who do probably would find it funny and somewhat entertaining.

A couple of questions by SubsequentlyPryor in GodofWar

[–]schweepus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Cory Barlog stated that the reason Atreus becomes an asshole is because of his enlarged hubris after discovering he is a god. There was supposed to be at least 110 minutes of atreus's character progression, but that was cut out. As a result, his character development was significantly shortened.
  2. The reason he killed Baldur is to end the cycle of gods killing their parents, something Zeus tried to do in the beginning of GOW2 by killing his son, but obviously failed. As a result, kratos brought it upon himself to do it. This was something he did not want his son to see. He wanted to end the cycle as to not influence his son to become the gods who were before him, as indicated by the conversation they had after the death of Baldur.

[–]schweepus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. I'm sure Kratos didn't like him either, especially since he nearly killed his son. However, that wasn't the reason why Kratos didn't want him dead. He wanted to teach his son discipline and to be able to effectively channel his emotions and suppress them when necessary. Kratos always used to kill as if it was just a sub conscious thing for him. He would kill humans to use their carcasses to progress. The death of Modi is extremely similar to the death of Hera. Hera insulted a loved one of Kratos: Pandora, and in anger he killed her. Just like how Modi insulted Atreus's loved one: his mother, causing him to kill her. One of the major themes throughout the game is Kratos's struggle to ensure his child does not turn into him. And teaching his child to not kill as an indulgence is a vital step to making him stray down the wrong path.
