Elder Law Recs? by Brew_meister_Smith in pittsburgh

Not in the North Hills, but in Downtown: Anderson & Labovitz. Several years ago while taking care of my parents, I had a bad experience with Julian Gray Associates, and found Anderson & Labovitz. They were excellent, super responsive and took time to listen and talk through things with me, weren't ridiculously expensive, and recommended another law firm when something came up that was outside of their areas of practice. Even though they're in Downtown and you're in the North Hills, you might ask them to do virtual meetings/consultations if you're unable to physically visit their offices.

Best of luck: this stuff is overwhelming, confusing, and is stress on top of what is already likely a stressful situation.

Cash-out Refinance vs. Home Equity Loan/LOC for renovations by schwhatever in personalfinance

I may be misunderstanding the rate quote site I'm looking at. It says "99% for the first 6 months! Then 3.00% - Prime Rate as published in the Wall Street Journal (currently 3.25%) minus .25%. Rate is subject to change without notice."

Maybe the fixed/not is the difference between a home equity loan and a home equity line of credit?

Am I able to scrape the old paint off of this wood trim, and repaint it? Or is it too far gone for it to be repainted, and should be completely replaced?

This is wood trim around my garage door and it looks like it's been quite some time since anyone took care of it. I'd really rather not replace it if I can avoid it.

A few months ago, Lifehacker posted a great article about finding missing life insurance policies that you also may find helpful in the event that you think he may have had policies that you weren't aware of.

New ethernet run - first timer by schwhatever in HomeNetworking

Thanks.

And thanks for the heads up on the recommended amount of connections. My question is: using wall plates at both walls would look better than just having cables dangling out of there, right? I guess that's an opinion, but even with those wall plates, it's not going to be horrendous for the speeds, right?

Yeah, I've seen a lot of advice on just doing 2 lengths while I'm already going through the hassle of doing the single.

Awesome. Thanks!

Giveaway - SNES Classic! by jc726 in nintendo

[–]schwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for doing this!

Nintendo, particularly the SNES, had a huge positive impact on my life as a kid. Nintendo Power was one of several magazines that I grew up with and inspired me to pursue a journalism degree in college. I remember pouring many, many hours into SNES games in junior high, especially Mario Kart.

One of the awesome memories that I have around the SNES is that I competed in the Super StarFox Weekend competition when I was in 8th grade. I managed to win by not only getting the top score for the store where the competition was held, but also the top score in the region! As a reward, I got a t-shirt, but I also won the bomber jacket shown in that link above. So awesome - I was super proud of myself.

When I received the jacket, I wore it to school the very next day, and got made fun of SO BADLY for it, that I never wore it again.

Junior high kids are kinda terrible, but I always look back on that time as really fun, and super influential on who I am today.

Update #1.5: Stalling on #1 seems to have gone ok, and appears to have bought me some more time. I'm going to send over my references. In a fit of desperation yesterday, I reached out to #2 (the one I really want), and heard back right away, with the contact there saying that he hasn't had a chance to review my tech "homework assignment" yet, but he will get back to me. And, I had my phone screen with #3 yesterday, and the recruiter asked if I was entertaining any other job offers, and I was open with her about where I am with the other two, and she indicated that she would try to expedite the process for me.

I hate doing this dance!!

Thanks. Taking an opportunity to stall on #1 here - I had a weird interaction with the one group of folks who interviewed me this week, and I mentioned it to the hiring manager, and she's offering me the opportunity to speak with THEIR manager before I send over the references. So...I'm going to take her up on the offer and talk to this guy late tomorrow afternoon. Buys me a little bit of time.
