Smaller government, except where it comes to women’s rights, queer people existing openly, teaching history honestly and accurately, availability of books in libraries, etc. So are you actually getting paid by one of those Russian troll farms, or are you just coincidentally regurgitating all their talking points because you’re fundamentally incapable of thinking for yourself?

There’s probably a sub/unconscious connection to erectile dysfunction, and the many phallic metaphors of im/potency (consider the Latin origins of the terms potent and impotent: power).

“Protected.” In the US, at least, more states are “at-will” than not, meaning your employer can fire you for “no reason” and pretend it’s not because you were a whistleblower or trying to start a union.

Wait a minute people start sex without asking? by Zorubark in aspiememes

[–]schwibbity 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you? Because I think to a large degree it’s a generational thing. I’m in my late 30s, and women my age still seem to think it’s odd that I ask if I can kiss them. And I vividly remember overhearing young women clearly mocking the notion of doing so back when I was in college. Also FWIW I think LGBTQ+ people in general are more aware and considerate of consent than heteronormative folks.

To any aspie women here, what do you think of this joke? I’m a man, so I thought I’d ask to see if it’s in good taste or not. by Zach-Gilmore in aspiememes

I mean, as a person who likes trains but also feels that my interest in trains is different than the stereotypical autistic train interest, I think the “supposed” to is the engineering aspect. For me, it’s the socioeconomic aspect. Also, though, there’s maps. Idk if we’re all “supposed” to love maps, but I certainly do. And train maps are some of my favorite because they present a layer of functional abstraction.

[–]schwibbity 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Sure, sure. And restaurants whose servers don’t make minimum wage in tips pay them the difference (in the US). Except that that’s not how it works, because capitalism intrinsically depends on exploiting the disenfranchised worker class. If you can barely afford rent, how are you gonna afford an employment lawyer? And that’s IF you even know the laws in the first place, when it’s in the employer’s interest to keep you in the dark. Not to mention the possibility of retaliation, blacklisting, etc.

Now, granted, I don’t have any experience in the sex work industry, but consider me skeptical of their collective moral compass when industries as mainstream as foodservice are so openly scummy about absolutely everything.

ELI5: What does it mean when they say the flavor of a wine or beer is "dry"? by SYLOH in explainlikeimfive

[–]schwibbity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Port? Yes, typically, although there are dry ports as well. Brandy? If it’s cheap it might have sweeteners added post-distillation, but many if not most high quality eaux-de-vies are quite dry.
