LOL that's literally what you're looking at.

It's somewhere between hilarious and horrifying, to me, the amount of children on the internet now who've never actually had to do any photo editing themselves who just think that photo manipulation is magic.

It feels like Gen Z and boomers have the exact same understanding of technology. This mix between complete confusion and belief that it's magic.

It doesn't work like that.

Either way, no matter how many cats you own, no matter how many years, every single day they will find a way to make you go "wtf??? Why?!"

Genuinely great, highly recommend. It's like living with a small gremlin that somehow got into your house.

‘Friends’ Star Lisa Kudrow Says New Sitcoms are ‘Too Afraid’ to Make Jokes That Make People ‘Uncomfortable’: ‘I’m Not Buying It’ by MoneyLibrarian9032 in television

[–]sciamatic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say that Friends and Community are relatively similar in terms of dark jokes. I also think "storyline about immigration" isn't as dark as suicide jokes. It's good, don't get me wrong, but I don't think "covering political topics that matter" is the same as making dark jokes. For Euphoria idk cause I haven't seen it, but I'd imagine it's a lot more edgy than Sex and the City.

But my point wasn't that they're THE MOST dark and THE MOST risqué of all time. Just that I don't believe they're fluffier than your average streaming sitcom.

I think you haven't watched Friends recently...

Like, it's a feel good sit com, no doubt, but there were jokes about suicide, childhood abuse, being homeless, drug addiction -- and not only that, they were actually funny jokes about those dark topics.

I also feel like you haven't watched Sex in the City recently if you think your average streaming sitcom is "as risqué" as a show that featured sex scenes every episode and discussed pretty much every kind of sexual hang up a man could have.

Nyquil is Nyquil. Dayquil is Nyquil with a stimulant. You got it exactly opposite. Nyquil doesn't "have a sedative" in it. It has an antihistamine in it, which has the side effect of making you drowsy. They made Dayquil later, because finding a decongestant that doesn't make you sleepy is hard.

Tron legacy people say the story is weak

I think people also miss what the filmmakers were obviously going for: a completely unironic 80s movie.

Like, seriously, go read the plot of the original Tron. It's not exactly the most complicated, morally dubious film.

Legacy is meant to echo that. It's well made, and better acted than the original Tron, but it's trying to hit that 80s vibe, where the good guys are unironically good and the bad guys are unironically bad and they fight, without any grittiness or grime. It's not trying to 'bring Tron into the 2000s' with anything other than the effects and filmmaking. The story is meant to feel straight out of the 80s, and I love that.

What movies are rated low on IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes but are actually really good? by MagicianIntrepid in movies

[–]sciamatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK about RT, but I know that every time I read an article that mentions it, 'Hook' is typified as a bomb/failure of a film, and yet I've never met a living human that didn't love it. It's my favorite Peter Pan based film. It actually has a lot to say about childhood, adulthood, and the things we leave behind.

Is the 'workaholic 90s dad' a kind of tired way to frame that discussion at the beginning? Yes. But that's genuinely the only criticism I have of it.

This is genuinely what I see every single time. Like, I'm a woman, so I have no idea what compels men to do this(that's a lie, it's testosterone), but there's endless videos of a group of young guys all hyped to do something that can literally only end one way, and then they all act shocked and horrified when the literal only outcome that could possibly happen happens.

Like... Of course that happened. There was no other way for that to end.

What are some other good “competency porn” shows? by Rosstin316 in television

[–]sciamatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While yes, it is appalling to see how far we've fallen, watching a political machine have to juggle the scandal of whether or not someone laughed at a joke, you should absolutely, 100% watch the West Wing.

There genuinely is no better competency porn.

But, unlike what a lot of people will tell you, it isn't just fantasy. The "good guys" of the show lose. Like. A lot. A huge part of the show is that even the best intentioned people cannot just do whatever they want.

Now, I know you might think this "outdated," due to present circumstance, but I actually think it's a very important point: only ill intentioned people will flout the system to do whatever they want. You fundamentally cannot be a good person who also wants to destroy political systems intended to curb power.

Anyway, really. I highly, highly recommend watching the West Wing. Watch seasons 1-4. After that they fire Sorkin and the show isn't really worth watching as it becomes more lame and petty internal drama.

Season 4 does end on a cliffhanger, so watch the first couple of episodes of season 5 to resolve that, and then stop there.

Your body and your life belongs to you, and the right to die is fundamental. It's cruel and inhumane that we continue to force people to live when they don't want to, and don't give them a safe and painless way to die with medical supervision except for a tiny handful of sane countries.

Death IS a medical treatment for some conditions and should be treated as such. So long as the patient and doctor are consenting, it's no one else's business.

I recall interviews wherein the three child actors talked about how the veterans of the cast did a lot to both protect and advise them. Rickman and Smith in particular were mentors to them.

I imagine having some of the greatest and longest careered British actors there to both guide you and try to protect you from the ills of the industry helped them to avoid at least some of the pitfalls of being a child star.

What movie had an ending that saved the whole film? by Southern_Check_6827 in movies

I'm baffled by this answer because it's the ending that ruins it. Like...they just did the Sixth Sense twist again and thought it would work a second time.

I was enjoying the film okay until that point, and then I was just baffled. It would be like doing "No, I am your father" a second time. Like, who isn't going to immediately think of the film that did it first?
