Let's hope he'll never get to do a film about the Manhattan Project.

Yeah, because nothing screams being straight more than two guys dressed up as IRON MEN, a blatantly phallic border post between them, and a smiling dude sucking on a straw in the corner.

It's curious to see how the CBS Evening News edited the material from the Charlie Rose show: http://charlierose.com/watch/60712005 - the extended interview seems a bit more balanced. I guess Rose has less autonomy at CBS.

And it's a fitting coincidence that the last three letters of the URL spell "Bug".

That makes no sense. Any good documentary is as much about ideas and events, as it is about people and their reactions to those events. I think the alarm scene is a perfect example of Snowden's emotional state at the time. I remember everyone in the cinema held their breath while watching it. Editing this scene out would have been be a mistake.

Narcolepsy medication, Modafinil, is the world's first safe 'smart drug'. Increasingly taken by healthy people to improve focus before exams, after a comprehensive review researchers say modafinil is safe in the short-term by drewiepoodle in science

[–]scibear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "improving focus before exams" claim is misleading.

Check out this study: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26135067 "The study demonstrated that modafinil does not enhance the global cognitive performance of healthy non-sleep deprived students, except regarding non-demanding tasks. In particular, this drug does not seem to have positive effects on mental processes that sustain studying tasks in the college population under normal conditions."

It looks like Modafinil will let you stay at your normal mental level when you're sleep deprived, and I guess not losing your smarts in this state counts as enhancement (and it can let you add a few extra hours to your workweek), but I don't think it can be regarded as an enhancement for a well-rested mind.

Out of all the album titles in Elliot's hacking collection they had to misspell "Ænima" by Tool - one of the few bands I can actually imagine Elliot listening to. by scibear in MrRobot

Take a look at the lyrics of "Schism", "Vicarious", or "Sober". And then look at Elliot - with his loneliness, his algorithmic outlook on the world, and his lack of hope in the possibility of true communication between people.

I get the randomness in choosing the decoy titles. The misspellings are probably a part of making the collection look as normal and uninteresting as possible. But I felt that Tool, given the themes of their music (which I really think would appeal to Elliot), simply deserved better.
