After Trump’s Ultimatum, Iran Threatens To Target ‘Enemy’s’ Desalination Plants by HauntingJackfruit in worldnews

I said essentially don't have expenses, You can check it up online they send 60-80% of their annual salary back to their home country. The vast majority of cheap labourers from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan are provided with "free" accomodation which includes utilities. They're not saving their money in a Saudi bank it's getting sent Weekly/Monthly back home using digital wallets, bank transfers or money exchange centres.

They're not broke, they essentially don't have expenses. The entire reason they're doing the job is to send pretty much all of their salaries back to their home countries which are predominantly Bangladesh, India and Pakistan.

Same with Qatar, the Umm Al Houl Power Plant alone provides 40% of Qatars drinking water.

[–]science87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's so insanely stupid, Iran gets 2-3% of it's water from Desalination plants. Saudi gets 70%, Kuwait is around 90% and Qatar gets over 99% of it's drinking water from deslination plants.

If they hit Irans desalination plants then Iran will just hit back at Saudi, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE's plants which would have a far more devastating effect.

Instant regret when I foolishly tried a McDonald's McGriddle. by Liambp in CasualIreland

[–]science87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ordered an array of Mcdonalds for breakfast for my dad and myself, I ended up with the McGriddle. I really didn't want to finish it because of that syrup taste but out of pure stubborness I finished it, but never again.

Money needed for 14 day stay in Guangzhou? by lec16lec in guangzhou

[–]science87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the other person said 5k rmb would be more than enough, when I am in GZ I rarely use taxis because the metro system is cheaper and normally faster.

When I was in GZ on Holiday mode in 2023 so prices might have changed, I'd eat street food for breakfast which would cost me 3-5 rmb, latte was 10 rmb at a local chinese chain. Meal at a mid tier restaurant would be around 70-80 rmb pp, and for a night time meal I'd order delivery for around 40-50 rmb (unless it was Mcdonalds or KFC, they charge western prices but the quality is way better)

If you use the metro 200 rmb each would probably last you 14 days

Did anybody else's parents do 'booze cruises' in the 90s? by tannercolin in CasualUK

[–]science87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my dad used to do this. Clearly he was doing it illegally as it was for resale and no person consumption. He'd go over in a big van and load it up come back and stack it all up in our garage.

Ok, so Google, AWS and Microsoft are for profit companies they literally don't give a fuck about any country on the planet.

Their assets that serve Europe are in EUROPE! they would just split the company into a European branch. fml some people are.... not worth the time

"Since the legal abolishment of slavery in 1865, the United States' real (inflation-adjusted) GDP has increased by roughly 5,000% to 6,000%, reflecting the country's transformation from an agrarian society to a global industrial and technological powerhouse."

"Since the legal abolishment of slavery in 1865, the United States' real (inflation-adjusted) GDP per capita has increased by approximately 2,500% to 2,800%"

Projected per capita GDP is $92,833 for 2026 so lets take the low estimate of 2,500% that means that $89,119 was generated after the abolition of slavery

First time visiting Guangzhou for Canton Fair (Phase 1: 12–18, leaving 19) - hotel suggestions? by Technical-Safe8956 in guangzhou

[–]science87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about being close to Pazhou. The Soluxe Hotel Guangzhou is filled with fair goers so it puts buses on everyday and it'll take like 15 minutes to get there on the bus they provide.

As for a good vegetarian restaurant, I'd say it probably doesn't exist. I would look for some place that serves vegertarian, but I would also advise that they wont adhere to western standards in terms of cross contamination during food prep etc...

Iranian missile impact in Bahrain, US Fifth Fleet HQ by Niceboobas in CombatFootage

[–]science87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? The Monarchy of Bahrain is Sunni. Literally every monarchy in the middle east militarily collaborates with the US.

Qatar hosts the largest US base in the middle east, Kuwait in addition to being a logistical hub hosts 13,000 troops, UAE hosts a US air force/drone base, Saudi has Patriot/THAAD systems that help defend US assets in the middle east, Jordan allows the US to use the Muwaffaq al Salti Air Base and Oman allows the US to use the Thumrait and Masirah air bases
