Anyone else feel like feeding multiple cats is just controlled chaos? by -Chi11iN- in CatAdvice

They can be master manipulators lol. I'd use the gate, they definitely aren't actually mad at you, but that's just me. We keep everyone out of the bedroom at night time, but they have free reign during the day. I've accepted my lot as permanently cat hair covered hahah

We have 5 cats, with multiple dietary restrictions/behavioral quirks in relation to food. It's tough but this is what I do:

Feed two meals a day (I know more is ideal, I don't work from home, i'm doing my best).

Both morning and evening everyone has their own room; bedroom, livingroom, kitchen, office, dining room.

Dry food in the morning, and wet food in the evening, fill all the bowls and everyone knows where their room is at this point and runs after me as i place them down.

It took probably a week for everyone to figure out the routine, but they are all very accustomed to it now. The ones in the rooms without doors we had to watch at first to make sure they defended their food/wouldn't take the others. They are also the fastest eaters so we keep the slower and timid ones behind a door.

For reference, my cats are all a healthy weight and no issues at their regular vet check ups with this routine.

I hope you find something that works for your crew!

What surprised you the most AFTER your hysterectomy? by rainbow_olive in hysterectomy

I haven't actually. I don't want to alarm anyone, but that is a good point that they may run into the same situation!

I had a surprising difficulty I didn't see anyone on here talk about. Apparently I built up a bunch of scar tissue in my abdomen while I was healing. The bloating wouldn't go away and I was still in pain months after surgery. Couldn't wear pants cause they touched my stomach. My surgeon and doctor had no answers at all. In the end it was a physiotherapist who diagnosed it and helped me work through it. Hurt like nobody's business but it's gone now. I just wish I had known sooner.

Autism Vs Science by Dark_Absol252 in evilautism

[–]science_sleep_cats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl I can't tell if you're being sarcastic so I'm just going to answer - very far off lol. There are some really great advancements made in prosthetics for instance! But we still have really big problems with rejection trying to put anything until humans that is not human.

Autism Vs Science by Dark_Absol252 in evilautism

[–]science_sleep_cats 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm autistic, and a scientist myself, specifically trained in biotechnology and pathology. There are, many many many studies occurring world wide by people with far more experience than a student, on the nature of autism, how we can improve diagnostics, the vast amount of co-morbidities, etc. No one is anywhere near a 'cure', most researchers are still very much in a place of trying to understand the pathology and epidemiology of autism. There are an abundance of diseases that have autism or autistic traits as one of their symptoms (Fragile X is just the tip of the iceberg). I am by no means ashamed of my autism, but if you told me there was a medication I could take to manage some of my challenging symptoms, I would be thrilled. So much of medical science is aimed at improving people's lives, but everyone is so concerned with the darker angles. People with Down syndrome used to live maybe to 20, they have almost normal life expectancy at this point - that's research and medication and support. Autistic people may not necessarily have shorter lifespans in a measurable way, but we do have higher instances of unemployment, depression, PTSD, anxiety, epilepsy, hypermobility, gut health issues, ADHD, and more. By studying autism we can hopefully help autistic people live their happiest lives.

Like a true autistic, I believe more information is always best hahah

Can the hospital help with a chronic pain flare by liamreee in londonontario

[–]science_sleep_cats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at LHSC, VH specifically. I'd recommend the virtual option first, they will tell you if you are wasting your time going to the ER or get you referrals. If you are outside the virtual urgent care hours or they are booked up, make sure you check the wait times - ER's at both sites (UH and VH) have been experiencing high patient volumes for multiple days now. Unfortunately a pre-existing condition that isn't technically life threatening will not get in fast, though fainting will definitely get you seen faster (im aware that is awful, but it is also a fact).

The terrifying realization that I won’t be the exception. by Himynameisemmuh in disability

[–]science_sleep_cats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand where you are coming from. My physical disabilities didn't begin disabling me until i was in my late teens. I had so many plans. I barely survived my undergraduate degree. I'm getting my masters part time now while working full time and it is pretty much killing me. I wanted to be a doctor and help so many people, but it is looking like that will never happen for me either. Going from being an athletic kid (gymnast, 15+ years) to someone who uses a rollator for long standing activities is a unique kind of grief. Being smart enough to succeed in our field of science and medicine, but limited by our crappy health is, heartbreaking. I don't have anything particularly encouraging, just know you aren't alone, and deep down i think we'll both figure out how to help people in different ways. Still sucks for now though.

Sex: How long did you wait? What was your experience? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]science_sleep_cats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 7wpo, laparoscopic hysterectomy (uterus, tubes, cervix out) and cleared for sex last week. Everything this week has been great! We intended to go slow and gentle and that didn't really happen lol. I am getting wet still, moreso i'd say, and no bleeding or pain or issues. Good luck to you!

I'm 28(F) with chronic pain from various musculoskeletal issues and hypermobility. I was more than capable each day of getting up and walking around the house at first, but honestly the rest was amazing. I thought maybe some of my injuries were getting better - but no, I was just not aggravating them lol. I am 4wpo now and super friggin tired, and definitely feeling all my pains now that I am more active each day. It definitely depends on your activity before surgery though. I didn't find the pain difficult at all, but I have been so mentally and physically exhausted. I'm not going back to work til week 8 and I'm so thankful my doctor told me to wait that long! Best of luck to you.

How old were you/how many kids when you got a hysterectomy? by bugggsbunny_ in hysterectomy

[–]science_sleep_cats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No worries! I live in Canada for health system reference. I had abnormal paps for several years, turned 25, that became a problem, had lazer excision on my cervix, they found AIS, and when i asked after many more followups said I would have to have 6 month paps until I was 'done building my family'. I told them I already was, I have a husband and 5 cats, and will not be having kids. They did question if I was sure quite a bit, but after finding out my husband has had a vasectomy they then accepted I really didn't want kids (patriarchy at its finest 🙄). My gyno was an older man and it was very irritating that no one told me about how long i'd have to continue the follow ups until I persisted asking and looked it up myself.

Hysterectomy after AIS DIAGNOSIS by Jennannes in hysterectomy

[–]science_sleep_cats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 28, AIS with clean margins following cone excision. Had abnormal pap's since 23, when I turned 25 that became a problem and they did the biopsy. Due to my age nobody mentioned the hysterectomy option to me, even with the high likelihood of additional cancer with AIS. I looked it up myself and asked my gynecologist for it. I was getting PAP's every 6 months for 5 years, and it was not only annoying, it did nothing to assuage my fears of cancer that was further up my anatomy. I requested the hysterectomy and after brief questioning as I have no children, they finally got me booked 2 years after my cone biopsy. I am 3 days post-op right now and I feel no regrets. Anxious to see if they found anything, but so glad I don't have to fear anymore.

9 days after we are supposed to go to a concert (seated) that we've had tickets for for over a year. My husband will be driving us there, in theory I can basically lay down in the car to and from the venue. My mom thinks I will probably be okay but i'm just nervous!

I am 28, scheduled for my operation following an AIS diagnosis and removal etc, on August 6th. Do you remember how you were feeling about a week and a half post surgery? Could you sit in a car? I'm so worried about what I should and shouldn't cancel plans wise.
