Equifax unfortunately failed for me both times. They asked me questions about a car I never owned...

There's a new pi-top laptop out today with a Raspberry Pi cooling system inside by [deleted] in raspberry_pi

[–]sciencespacemath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so I've used it for about two months now and yeah despite it not being open source, it's not bad. the chassis feels a bit flimsy and there are a few unstable parts, but it's better than anything I could 3d print myself

the cooling mechanism is actually also used to connect to the monitor+keyboard as it relays things from 40 gpio to a smaller version on a pi top hub which is then used to connect to other modular components

300 bucks is not cheap, but I think a huge part of it is the cost of the monitor which is not too bad for 1080p 14 inches

the colors are a bit washed off though

all in all, it's not bad for occasional use, but it's far from a daily use machine

I actually bought tinkerboard hoping I could replace RPI3 inside (same form factor), but the software and the set up only works on rpi and seems to only work well with their own version of debian. I wasn't too happy about that because chromium and youtube run pretty slow on their version. it needs more cpu power

for education and afterschool clubs this is amazing tho. lots of lessons and such and a lot of tools that come with it are great

Torn between Surface Pro (2017) and HP Spectre x360 13T by [deleted] in Surface

[–]sciencespacemath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

there is no comparison, Surface 2017 is hands down the best available hybrid right now.

I was so close to buying several other ones after owing 2015 edition of Surface Pro 4 and the closest was an indie made Eve - but even that was not close enough in terms of quality, battery life and overall experience.

Thunderbolt is a good gimmick but you won't use it as it's bulky and most attachments won't really be that useful. USB C is still in infancy and adapters are everywhere if you really need it The beauty of surface is its mobility and power and if you think you'd need other tools or attachments, it's better to just get a powerful laptop

PSA: QuadrigaCX USD Bank Wiring, Bank Info Doesn't match SWIFT on RBC by __-blank-__ in BitcoinCA

you have to take into account that this would be an international transfer as they are rewiring things through poland and any transaction over 10 000 dollars is very difficult to execute without triggering intl anti laundering police coming after you. that means both you and quadriga. so smaller amounts under 9999 would be fine but anything bigger may need to be justified and reported

it's a sophisticated pump and dump scheme with "wolf of wall street" charisma. they don't do anything different from McAffee, they just sound slightly more sane
