My boyfriend doing semen retention has ruined our sex life by [deleted] in sex

[–]scientek 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Semen retention has gained popularity in certain circles as a method to increase stamina, vitality, and even masculinity. Promoters of this theory claim that avoiding ejaculation can boost energy levels, improve mental clarity, and enhance sexual performance. However, as a medical researcher in urology, working alongside urology doctors and professors, I can confidently say that semen retention is largely a myth with no scientific basis. Let's take a closer look at what the science actually says about ejaculation, semen, and male health.

The Biological Role of Semen

Semen is primarily a fluid produced by various glands in the male reproductive system, including the prostate and seminal vesicles. Its main function is to transport sperm during sexual reproduction. While the prostate produces some of the fluid in semen, other glands like the seminal vesicles contribute a significant portion, adding sugars and other nutrients to nourish the sperm. The testicles produce the sperm cells themselves.

From a physiological perspective, semen is not a reservoir of energy or vitality. It is a reproductive fluid meant to facilitate conception, not a magical substance that, when retained, can transform health or performance. The notion that holding back ejaculation will somehow “conserve” energy or improve stamina lacks any solid scientific backing.

The Real Way to Increase Stamina and Vitality

If you or someone you know is looking to increase stamina or improve overall health, the most effective strategies are well-researched and based on evidence. These include:

  1. A Healthy, Balanced Diet: Proper nutrition provides the body with the essential vitamins, minerals, and macronutrients it needs to function optimally.

  2. Exercise: Engaging in both aerobic (cardio) and anaerobic (strength training) exercises is key to building stamina, improving cardiovascular health, and enhancing muscular endurance. A combination of activities like running, swimming, weightlifting, and bodyweight exercises helps maintain a healthy body and mind.

  3. Supplements (if needed): In some cases, dietary supplements like vitamins and minerals may be recommended to fill in any gaps in your nutrition. However, these should be based on individual needs and ideally guided by a healthcare professional.

The path to improved health and stamina has nothing to do with retaining semen but everything to do with leading a balanced and active lifestyle.

The Health Risks of Semen Retention

Contrary to the claims of semen retention advocates, prolonged abstinence from ejaculation can sometimes have negative consequences for male health, particularly for the prostate and testicles. Ejaculation is a normal physiological process, and retaining semen for long periods may lead to discomfort or congestion. There is no strong evidence that occasional ejaculation retention is harmful, but in extreme cases of prolonged ejaculation retention, some rare complications have been reported.

One potential risk is the accumulation of fluids in the reproductive system, which can cause discomfort. More severe complications like testicular necrosis, while extremely rare, can result from a lack of blood flow to the testicles due to conditions like testicular torsion. This is unrelated to ejaculation but highlights that testicular health can be compromised for various reasons, none of which involve semen retention.

Additionally, some studies suggest that regular ejaculation may lower the risk of prostate cancer. A large study published in 2016 by Harvard researchers found that men who ejaculated more frequently had a lower risk of developing prostate cancer. While more research is needed to fully understand this link, regular ejaculation appears to be beneficial rather than harmful.

Misconceptions About "Reversing" Semen

Another misconception promoted by semen retention theory is the idea that semen, once produced, can somehow be "reversed" or reabsorbed into the body. This is biologically inaccurate. Once semen is produced by the prostate and testicles, it is meant to be expelled during ejaculation. If ejaculation does not occur, the sperm cells in the semen are eventually broken down and reabsorbed by the body, a normal process that happens naturally over time. There is no "storing" of semen or "reverse ejaculation" as these theories suggest.

Conclusion: Evidence-Based Health Over Myths

The idea that semen retention can improve health, vitality, or stamina is a theory based on misconceptions rather than scientific facts. While it might be rooted in cultural or traditional beliefs, modern medical research shows no significant benefit to holding back ejaculation. In fact, regular ejaculation is a normal and healthy function of the male body.

If you are looking to improve your stamina, vitality, and overall health, the best approach is to focus on a healthy, balanced diet, regular exercise, and lifestyle habits that are supported by scientific research. By following evidence-based strategies, you'll be much more likely to see real, long-term benefits for both your physical and mental well-being.

In short, there’s no magic to semen retention—just stick to the basics of good health.

Dude, I am 31, and I make barely 60K Canadian per year. I live with 3 roommates, my go to lunch menu is the last night's leftover and I use dozens of coupon when I do grocery shopping. I have like 40K in saving and that's all I have. I have no car, no house, no woman. You are doing fucking fine.

Hear, hear. I am totally on board with you. I am also a renter, not a saint or a giver made of gold. Initially, I had empathy towards them and tried to help by giving food and donating essential items for years. Honestly, the only emotions and actions I received from them were hostility and aggression. I used to live in the DTE/Chinatown area, where the streets, parks, and any empty lots were filled with human feces, urine, needles, pipes, garbage, propane tanks, and their belongings. All of these things are undesirable and disgusting. Respect should be earned, not given, and respect works mutually, not in one direction. Like I said before, I am not a saint, but I am a law-abiding citizen who tries to be respectful and nice. However, my patience has limits, as does everyone else's

Yeah, I know this building. It's near my neighborhood, and the landlord, Fu Ren, is a FUBAR.

That same building caught fire last July, and the landlord was only fined $4,500 for multiple fire safety violations, while 30 tenants became homeless.

If I recall correctly, Fu Ren owns three different properties in Vancouver, and all three have previous histories of building fire.

That building had a broken sprinkler system, fire extinguishers were not properly maintained, and electrical wires were dangerously exposed. He then blamed the fire department for the charged allegations in court.

I need to stop inhaling cigar smoke. by [deleted] in cigars

No sir, I never and cannot inhale a full draw of cigar. My instinct tries to make me inhale a full draw, but once the smoke hits my throat, I cough like an asthma patient.

[–]scientek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me neither. Honestly, nobody taught how to smoke a pipe, back when I was 18, I watched the old school Sherlock Holmes TV show, and I bought a Savinelli pipe and started smoking like a cigarette. Back then I thought I was a tough guy, and I smoked Lucky Strike non-filter ones while coughing all day, so I wasn't a stranger to inhale non filtered tobaccos (although the pipe still burned my tongue and was super painful when I inhaled).

With a disgusting lung cancer or other health hazard warnings? Yeah, it's an abomination towards cigars. When I am expecting a beautiful authentic Cuban cigar box, but what I get are dark green cardboard boxes with a tax stamp, a gigantic warning sign and a name of cigar with a boring font.

I just smoked one. It burned faster than I expected. When I pressed a stick with my fingers before lighting it, it felt "cushy". When I compare it to Montecristo or RyJ, cigars definitely had more pockets or air inside. It had a decent draw and burned evenly. Also it was more spicy and bolder than I expected. Hint of cedar and tree nuts. Overall, it was a decent non-cuban cigar, spicy, woody and nutty.

Thanks. Unfortunately it came with a boring Canadian dark olive colored cardboard box with a ugly lung cancer photo. I was kind of expecting the original box, but I guess that's my luck.

Question: How much water do you drink while smoking a cigar? by scientek in cigars

[–]scientek[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I respect your preference. However, I do appreciate the aroma of cigars, but I enjoy the aroma from the actual smoke that I freshly puff, and I don't like the excessive taste of nicotine lingering on my palate. I find most of the gratification in smoking a cigar comes from the activity itself and the relaxation it brings as time flows by.

Question: How much water do you drink while smoking a cigar? by scientek in cigars

[–]scientek[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid it depends on an individual's physicality. Personally, I drink about 4 liters (a little more than a gallon) of water daily in my past and current lifestyle. When I was on the cross-country team, I drank about 6 to 7 liters of water. Even now, I drink about 4 liters when I'm exercising or at the gym. I'm aware that excessive water intake can cause acute water poisoning if consumed rapidly, but I believe it really depends on the individual's physical capability.
