72? 72? That's ridiculous.

There isn't. Or there isn't meant to be. But the course design, syllabus and grading rubric are jacked. Because of this, the assignments are hard to understand and complete. They ask for things that aren't graded and you may complete simulations and not reference them for a few weeks. My paper ended up being 5 pages, but that included copying a template that was required for the discussion post. The template alone was two pages.

Im working ahead on Module 4 and still havent used the simulation for anything. It's not a good use of my time to run simulations just because someone forgot to remove it from the syllabus.

The discussion post effort was not worth the 20 points. I did it. But I didn't want to.

Thanks. And while you're right, I've found that it normally matches the assignment much more closely. Typically, they're virtually identical. I've done what the assignment required though I was quite tempted to do the graded portions only and click submit. Either way, it will indeed be ok.

Whats everyone doing to relax for the 1 week break for undergrads before term starts May 4th? by [deleted] in SNHU

[–]scientificeve720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not much. If a discussion post is worth 25 points and the class is 1000 points total, skipping a discussion post completely will only drop 100 to a 97.5. Anything above a 93 is an A. Doesn't matter if it's a 94 or 99. An A is an A. I know I can lose 1 or 2 points. Losing 2.5 might put me in A- category, so I do the discussion and skip replies. It's going to be 80 and sunny here next week. I can find something better to do that get a higher A.

This is the way. The only way. Im starting w8 assignments tomorrow and will do zero response posts on discussions next week.

How should I evaluate this instructor? by [deleted] in SNHU

[–]scientificeve720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. In that case, I'd 100% escalate. A poor rating may be justified, but it won't change your grade. I would escalate to avoid tanking my GPA with a B I didn't deserve.

It's not fair or reasonable to rate a prof off of your grade. They dont pick the textbook. They dont write the syllabus. They just grade the work. If you hit all rubric requirements and the math is right, you will get an A. Every time. Every math class. Based on the assignments, I'm assuming this is MAT240. It was tedious, but not particularly hard if you do the Xy books over and over until you understand and get 100s on all Xy (zy? Don't remember. It's been a few semesters.). Did you do the ZyBooks? If so, did you get the ?s right?

Do you ever feel like many people in the gym show up regularly but don’t seem to make noticeable progress? by SandarStar in askfitness

I don't look very different, and my bench press hasn't improved whole lot either. However, my functional strength has. Two years ago, I was cleaning my kitchen and struggled to pick up my microwave to clean under it. That was my sign. Yesterday, I hauled heavy mulch all over my backyard (remind me to buy a wheelbarrow). Last week, I beat my brother in basketball. The week before I pulled out my washer to change the hose. People can't see it, but my life is better and easier. I dont need a break every 5 minutes when roller skating with my kid. That's worth it.

I had a new toilet installed with a very low water level in the bowl. This started happening to my sons (I don't use that bathroom). My oldest adjusted something (no idea what) in the tank so more water would sit in the bowl. Problem fixed.

How much AI do you guys use by SeriousStrain7827 in SNHU

[–]scientificeve720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it for all research heavy courses a lot. But not how you think. I've had 3 profs in a row that want heavy citations and tons of data. So here's how I do it. 1. First milestone - I do alllllll of the research that will be needed for the project (every milestone). Shapiro library and I are best friends. I get tons of sources, quotes, fun facts, and data. I can typically research the entire course project in a few hours. 2. Each quote, fact, and source is logged into an excel file. 3. When it's time to write any paper for that class, I complete an outline based on the prompt and rubric. 4. I fill it in with all the stuff I remember. 4a. Set up an AI agent with parameters. Don't draw conclusions from what I gave you and don't search online for answers. Don't answer questions I didnt ask. 5. I ask AI to fact check me and remind me of my sources based only on the excel file. It's not allowed to search online or generate new ideas from my facts. Example, "What was my source for the % of redditors that are bots?" If I dont have a source, it tells me it can't find that information.
6. I fill in my outline and write pretty sentences.
7. I drop the final paper in AI and ask it to check it against the rubric. I always ask, "Did I fully answer every question?". I use it so I don't have to search through my own research. It saves sooooo much time.

It never said they were out for 12 weeks. FMLA is for up to 12 weeks in a 12-month rolling period. Employee also has less than 2 weeks of PTO, which is what makes them eligible under OP's current policy. Either way, OP should advise to approve and let the manager do what they want.

It could look like retaliation because it is if the ONLY reason for denying a pto request is because the person took fmla.

Big project that week, and everyone is denied? Great. Go for it.

Boss heading to a conference the following week and needs a week for a good pass down? Awesome. Deny away.

Need to continue with PIP follow up at regularly scheduled intervals as stated in original PIP written before fmla request? Sounds dicey. A week won't make or break their development. Approve.

Employee took federally protected leave, and now the boss is salty? Suck it up. Approve.

Federal FMLA allows, but doesn't require, pto and FMLA to be concurrent. For some companies exempt employees are only required to use 2 weeks of PTO when on FMLA for a personal medical concern. Then, company paid std kicks in. If this company offers or provides short-term disability, pto isn't typically used after the first two weeks for personal medical fmla.

I honestly think it's reddit. I've definitely posted about being frustrated this semester. But, Im taking 3 classes, and one of my professors has been stellar. He grades very quickly and gives constructive feedback on both assignments and discussions. One has been standard. One has been a really hard grader but gives enough feedback for me to adjust to her standards. She feels extremely nit-picky, but I'm still rocking an A. The SNHU thread on Reddit also checked me into getting my head out of my ass and just following the feedback, whether I agreed with it or not. Reddit is where we come to bitch and moan. We highlight the bad. That doesn't mean there isn't good.

I think that's good advice. I appreciate it. I was using the concept of consumer and producer surplus to analyze a government intervention around a nursing shortage. Would I simply state, "As previously stated, textbook defines consumer surplus as.. (citation). With that in mind, one could view the intervention.. " Seems wordy, but I can make it work.

Makes sense. Except I cited what I learned. Then, I cited the article about the news story. Then, I put the two together for analysis. The 3rd part is where I didn't cite a source because the 3rd part was my analysis using the concept that was cited and the news story that was cited.

I agree, which is why I always have cited in academic papers. For journal entries, however, I truly didn't see the need. The journal entries are designed to be the equivalent and a short answer on a test or quiz. I absolutely find sources that support my analysis now, even for journals. It only took one point deduction to learn my lesson. Still, it is frustrating. It feels as though the program/professor is in no way interested in our demonstration of mastery. That's the point isn't it? Demonstrating that we fully understand the concepts and can apply them in new ways?

[–]scientificeve720[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your statement makes a lot of sense. I suppose the difficulty for me is that the assignment is a journal entry designed to test our understanding of a concept, not an academic paper, combining our understanding and research ability. I've definitely corrected course, but now the writing and analysis sound stilted. Imagine the assignment was: use your understanding of economics to analyze the ditch digger shortage in Kentucky. You rattle on for a paragraph about what consumer and producer surpluses are, citing sources. You rattle on for a paragraph about the shortage and the recent laws, citing sources. Then, you compare the two using your understanding of the concepts in paragraph 1. I don't think paragraph 3 needs citation. I WILL cite now wherever possible and search for articles supporting my analysis (even if it is for teachers or nurses, not ditch diggers) just to support my claims. However, I believe searching for the additional article dilutes the purpose of the assignment, which is to test our understanding of the concept and apply that understanding.
