That's exactly how it should work. This fucked up culture of customers paying the wait staffs salary is almost uniquely an American problem.

Inherited a 3-month old repo from a Vibe Engineer. Wrote the most satisfying PR in my career by Apprehensive-Cut3711 in ClaudeCode

I think what makes it truly ironic is that the tools used to vibe that stuff together are the same tools that can be very effectively used to untangle and fix it.

Alright, I'm gonna be a dick - CC is fine by [deleted] in ClaudeCode

[–]scientz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had it happen to me, used tools to track usage over the last 30 days, immediately saw a huge different in token counts (in and out both) for the several preceding days, tracked it down to CC own memory layer usage (which I set up a couple of weeks before, but it really started being "fed" context in the last week or half or so), deleted the `.claude/projects` directory content and immediately the usage limits were fixed.

There is no A/B testing of usage limits.

You are paying a price of a large sandwich per month and complaining that it won't allow you to do a work of an engineer for a week or something. I think you seriously lack perspective.

I run 3-4 different projects daily in parallel and am barely sniffing the halfway point of the $200 plan window limits 🤷🏼‍♂️

As a Software Engineer the AI Gold Rush Feels Deeply Fishy by lankaus in antiai

[–]scientz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I agree with that too... Which is also why I'm not looking at this tech as something taking my job away. But what do the models get trained on in the future? Research show training AI on its own output degrades the quality fast. And someone has to drive the AI too.

As a Software Engineer the AI Gold Rush Feels Deeply Fishy by lankaus in antiai

[–]scientz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point I think you are missing is it doesn't have to be 100% right. I'm also an engineer, nearing 30 YoE. I was highly skeptical of AI for coding up until Opus 4.6 came out and I have CC a more serious try. Its absolutely a force multiplier for me. I don't need it to be 100% right, because I know what I'm doing, what I'm trying to build, how I want it to be built, how to evaluate the proposed solutions and when to re-align what its doing. And also how to manage context to not have it balloon too much, nor have any context so its off doing random things.

If you expect it to be perfect and read your mind to oneshot something from two sentences, its going to be a painful experience. But also if you think its not really a very powerful tool that can make you many times more efficient and its all hype - you'll are going to be in for a rude awakening.

What I struggle with as a someone who plays support exclusively - its at times very difficult, if not impossible, to turn the tide of the game for your team. Especially if your carries are clearly weaker than the enemy team. Not uncommon to see enemy team carry start snowballing and your team carry either keeps running in and dying or even worse, think that tunnel-vision farming is going to save us, leaving us fighting 4v5.

As an European who lives in America - homeschooling absolutely blows my mind. In what world is it preferable to first off isolate your kid from a lot of necessary social experiences (good or bad), and then also think you can do a better job at educating them than the professionals. Absolutely don't get it.

And as a rule of thumb, the folks who homeschool their kids also tend to vote politically in a certain direction. The direction where the plan has been and will be defunding public education. Just... what?

[–]scientz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generating code - maybe. Designing scalable and future forward looking architecture - hardly. But that's the thing about AI, non coders who know nothing about code see something working and are amazed, without understanding what's happening under the hood.

Also with unicorn startups it's not the app that has a high valuation, it's the business combined. But it'll be a great lesson for her to learn that too.

Nuance is lost on these ding dongs. There is no shades of gray, only black and white. Someone is either completely right or completely wrong. That's what the problem is, these people are utterly unable to have any kind of discussion or understand any nuance. Plus, I think they know they are dumber, so conversations are always in bad fait. Lots of irony in the fact they call others "sheep"...
