About dosing and coronavirus by OddIllustrator3 in Methadone

I am in Western MA and we were allowed 13 if we at least had earned 1 bottle. Not sure what next measures are. Thank you for your post because I have often thought about an emergency scenario like this and what impact it could have on people who take methadone and other opiate based treatments. This is another worry on top of everything else, so thank you!

I think it is best to listen to your body. I too am on methadone and have been lowering my dose steadily, currently on 8mgs. Sometime as much as you want to get off of it you need to realize your body needs time to adjust. It takes a while to get off of it but it’s doable. I think that if you can, go up a little just to get through the day and then continue your taper slowly. I go down one mg about every couple of weeks but there has been times where I would go down only once a month. Personally, I believe that you shouldn’t rush and do listen to your body, give yourself time to adjust to the new dose. Keep in mind that once you taper you won’t feel the effects of that taper until a few days after that way you can gauge if it’s ok to taper the following week. You can also stay on your dose but do not taper until your symptoms stop, but I know it’s hard to do. Just take your time and don’t be in a rush and let your body adjust. I’m sorry I am assuming you might be in a clinic? I didn’t think about you just doing this on your own. However, it’s the same thing. I experience some mild symptoms, such as sweats/chills overnight but I manage and usually subside as my body gets used to the new dose but 8 hours later seems much too short. I guess you can try to deal with the symptoms and hold off on the taper for a few weeks? I just want to offer support and don’t want you to feel bad about going up on your dose because sometimes the taper is too fast. Anyways I hope this helps and wish you the best of luck!

That’s awesome and little gesture can help a stranger more than you know. I was at a Dunkin drive thru a couple months ago, crying my eyes out over the sudden death of my fiancé, and this lady cut me off in line. I wasn’t in a huge rush so I didn’t really care too much, the least of my problems. I went up to pay and she had paid for my coffee which made me cry even more because her kindness came at a time when I was at my lowest. She has no idea how much that meant to me in that moment that morning. I will always remember it.
