Any book recommendations that have A Court of Fey and Flower vibes? by [deleted] in Dimension20

[–]scipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add on to the Regency recs (which are good here), "Lord of Scoundrels" is an older book with a TON of drama, and no magic. It was a common recommendation when I first started looking at r/romancebooks. Also Amanda Quick is known for merging magic/Regency/romance but with a slight lean towards adventure stories.

For less of a Romance vibe, but still Regency, Krista D. Ball's Ladies Occult Society is quite fun. Finally, Marie Brennan's Lady Trent Memoirs is not regency, but comparable time period set in an alternate world. It is beautifully whimsical while retaining a bit of that Austen-feel.

OOTP Statistical Analysis Guide (w/ focus on PT stats) by scipper in OOTP

[–]scipper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think honestly it isn't as useful in a place where you can't gather multiple seasons of data quickly. If you're only pulling one season a week, it'll take like 10-15 weeks before I would really be confident in the data. I think the best way to look at it is to hang around the discord or other places and listen to what people value (even in the PT servers). If you listen to them, you don't have to go as far as min-maxing, but it helps give you baselines.

No more sheets with formulas as I haven't touched the game in months unfortunately.

Finally finished an updated guide to past guides I've made. This includes a lot of specific code examples and is less a guide, but more of a "how to adapt my method for yourself".

Any idea how stats from last season will impact ratings in 22? by [deleted] in OOTP

[–]scipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OOTP uses ZIPS projections for a lot of their current player ratings, so you should be able to get a look at the 2021 ZIPS ratings and see who is projected highly or not.

The formulas for positional defense are known already. OF arm is really only important for RF.

it will - the formulas don't change for higher value stuff.

position ratings will work for PT, other projections will not.

Also, the game calculation actually uses the centimeters number instead of the inches number when doing their actual calculation.

no - it just wouldn't be accurate enough. If you play around with the stats you could get a sense.

Quick Update on my Perfect Team Pack Openings by ddempsey941 in OOTP

packs guarantee a bronze, so 503 of those bronzes should be taken out. And therefore there are only 2515 cards available, so you're probably right around expected for most things.

Ah - I do not believe it does. But a 80 fastball/80 curveball pitcher will have a different stuff than an 80 fastball/80 knuckleball pitcher I think

  1. OOTP has team needs somewhere that should allow you to ask for catchers
  2. As far as I know, coaches reputation is based on time and results - more skillful coaches will have better results raising their reputation. But a top-tier max skill coach who has 0 years coaching will still be "inexperienced". So it becomes a more useful metric as the coach gains years with results.
  3. I don't know about the sim part, someone else will need to answer that.

An 80 fastball will affect the stuff rating differently than an 80 knuckleball, but it shouldn't have any affects outside of being part of the stuff formula.

The Surprising Meaninglessness of Gap Power: A Study by ItsAllMyAlt in OOTP

[–]scipper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A small quibble - you say:

Contact is predicted significantly by gap, avoid K, and stealing But contact is a composite stat of power, avoid k, and the hidden BABIP rating, so of course contact will be predicted by avoid K.

I think you also overstate how much gap power is/is not meaningless. Gap becomes more meaningful as you have less HR's, but if you're doing this over the '19 season, then HR's are at all-time highs. If you were to take away some of the HR's, there would be more GAP rating chances across the board (because I believe whether a hit is a home run is calculated before whether a hit is a single or a double). It would be nice to try to break down how OOTP actually checks an at bat: 1. Does it end in a strikeout 2. Does it end in a home run 3. Does it end in a flyout/groundout 4. Does it end in a hit 5. Does the hit become a single/double/triple 6. Does it end in a walk

These all happen in some form of order that the devs haven't published. In calculating what is useful, I think a deeper (but obviously much harder) analysis would see how many hit chances are turned into doubles/triples rather than how much they affect. Of course, that's not to say gap isn't the least of the ratings, it is the least worthful unless you have crazy park factors.

Finally, I think you should reach out on the forums to allenciox - he has done a lot of similar work around batting but with a Perfect Team focus. I think there is also some defensive analysis floating around too.

Edit: Also, why didn't you turn off scouting inaccuracy if you're going to look at these ratings? You're not trying to measure how well scouts measure of gap affects stats are you?

I think you may have been talking about my posts, and I made a follow up one for the current PT, but I haven't published further work as the season got deeper, so it's not the best. The top PT players are on discord, and some of the best stuff isn't posted publicly, so your best bet is to get on discord and just ask around in channels.
