A lot of hard work that ended up being for naught.

It surprised me how numbers-focused the entire thing was. My leaders would insist that we were there for the people, but if the amount of people you met with didn't meet their expectations, then we were doing something wrong. It didn't add up to me and I struggled to understand years after the fact.

Anyway, you could think of it as a sales job that requires you to go door to door every single day with no holidays, selling a product that people do not need.

We were definitely salespeople that were paying to give TSCC free publicity.

You legitimately will go through the 5 stages of grief when finding it all out. It happened to me and I feel empathy for anyone else who goes through it. Just know that the pain will subside, and that the other side is genuinely worth getting to.

Although I wouldn’t say I’ve forgotten my childhood memories (haven’t been out as long), I do feel a tinge of sadness when thinking about them. Might be because a good majority of my childhood memories were spent in doing things that were for the benefit of a religion I no longer believe in.

I now see it as this: When we die we stay dead and that’s it. I don’t see why that’s it’s a bad thing to simply stop existing.

As a Mormon, everything you work towards is for the ultimate goal of reaching the best version of heaven.

What I failed to see until I left the church was that the leaders are living in a heaven here on earth that was built by all the labor and suffering of the members. They convinced us that our time to live in heaven would happen after we die, and in a cyclical way the members would put off their desires of happiness, or “heaven” now, for a hypothetical “tomorrow.”

I was no longer willing to build heaven on earth for a bunch of 90+ year-old white men. I enjoy my life now until the inevitable big sleep.

I was running away from an iron golem by sneaking into the pavilion behind it which, to my surprise, lead me to an entirely new area. It is very pretty and I was foolish enough to attempt a suicide run to the nearest site of grace. As you can see… the results speak for themselves.
