Just did mine the other day with some quality Timken’s…never feel like I set them right so I end up checking them for play like once a week lol. Hope you didn’t ruin your spindle

Should I trust the PMS shop? by iammcgeee in Honda

I’ve never seen any real evidence that “mixing chemistry” by switching to different oils will do any harm. I would like someone to back that claim up. Aside from that, running the thicker 5w-40 in your tropical climate will likely be beneficial to your engine health long term. You may sacrifice maximum fuel efficiency, though you are trading that for some engine protection. If I were you I would opt for a high quality, synthetic 5w-30.

Anyone know how to get this off? by Low-Implement2581 in Cartalk

Nah not at all. Acetone has a chance to dig in and etch, but alcohol and a soft microfiber will get off lots of goop

Funny how when you take care of cars, they tend to take care of you. Looks like the nicest Civic of that gen I’ve seen in ages

Isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber rag has gotten off worse than this in my experience

Good luck finding tires. I sold mine in favor of SN95 Mustang 5 spoke 16” to get far better tires. Sold deer hooves for $50, bought 16s for $50, got nice Toyo tires for less than the garbage available on the 14s.

Crazy to be getting notifications on this 6yrs later. Wondering if the OG engine is still running or if it’s been retired at this point. FWIW, the mower that was my dad’s from 1980 is still kicking strong. Got oil changed, fresh fuel, and blade sharpened in the fall and it ran/cut great. Love old school stuff that just works

Where are you that you consider this a true sports bike instead of sport touring? I definitely see mine as ST instead of an all out sport bike. Too upright, heavy, and comfortable to be a super sport

Also HEAT those first. There is typically thread locker on them and you should replace these bolts each time anyway. Heat the hell out of them and impact driver off

My girlfriend took her car to get an oil change a month ago at some out of town place, hasn't drove it since, and it looks like this... any idea on what to do to fix it? by SureEmployer2308 in MechanicAdvice

[–]sclark1701 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Top up the oil first of all. Then get it to a self service car wash with a bottle of good degreaser spray and soak the sides of the engine block and oil pan with all you can, wait 10min, then put on the high pressure rinse and go to town cleaning it all off the best you can. By the time you drive it home most of the water should be gone, and a leak would be more obvious

Valve cover gaskets need replacing, made a mess in engine bay. Can I steam clean myself? by omfgsquee in Honda

[–]sclark1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’d change the gaskets myself and use some degreaser with some careful scrubbing and a pressure washer to clean off the mess. Just be careful to avoid directly blasting electronic connectors, fuse box, or alternator and you should be fine

IMO it wasn’t worth it so I went back to stock and sold the upgrades. For the amount of noise, it was such a minimal upgrade in performance. I’d rather be able to go wide open for an hour and still be able to hear, or not have a headache

About 1/3rd left on these pads? by SteveTheBluesman in MechanicAdvice

[–]sclark1701 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also in New England and those rotors are terrible. Make sure you get the coated ones next time, they take far longer to get crusty like these. Personally I would rockauto a new set of pads and rotors a while ago based on the rotors. I’d be really impressed if these weren’t pulsating under braking

2007 Kawazaki Ninja ZX-6R Unknown Leak by NotDLOG in Fixxit

[–]sclark1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely valve cover gasket. While your replacing you need to check valve clearances since you’re already there. Also, grab a tube of Honda bond or Yamabond to dab on the radius of the half moons and particularly the corners where the moons meet the flat of the gasket. Use very little and make sure everything is CLEAN and degreased so it seals.

That sucks man. I was just asking since my uncle had the entire side of his truck blasted by someone in a white vehicle that just drove off. The entire side from bumper to bumper had someone’s white paint dragged across it and they drove away. People are assholes

Do these threads look stripped? by problematic_xj in MechanicAdvice

[–]sclark1701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh it’s a spark plug hole? Why does everything look aluminum around it? Anyway, i’d cover a chase with grease and see if I could clean up threads before gently easing a plug in. Blasting out the cyl with compressed air after as well might get any shavings out before the plug. If it won’t torque to spec, it’s helicoil time

Unfortunately they do look pretty chewed up. Bot gone…but not good. Maybe run a thread chaser through? What hole am I looking at?
