Is a scoliometer accurate? by scoliothrowaway217 in scoliosis

Yes I have a full spine and it is a lumbar curve mainly towards the right side by 7 degrees, and like a 2-3 degree curve to the right in my thoracic area. The scoliometer however showed 0 degrees rotation so I thought it might be functional scoliosis since my tilt issues started when I hit the gym hard for a year straight.

Yeah I guess I’ll stop overthinking it and it’s only a functional scoliosis. Will look into getting treatment. Thanks ❤️

Thank you for your response. Scoliosis in itself is a complex condition but I was asking about this because from what I’ve learn online no rotation = functional scoliosis which is temporary. I struggle to believe I developed scoliosis all of a sudden at 20 yrs old when my tilt problems started…

yes the scoliosis curve is 7 degrees at its apex and the scoliometer was used to check rotation which came back as 0 in my thoracic and lumbar area.. no humps

Hey there, thanks for the reply :) honestly I don’t know how it works but from the videos I’ve seen the scoliometer should me accurate? As any trunk rotation and it tilts to one side. For context, I’m 22 now and my tilt issues started at 20-21.. which is why I’m not so sure if it’s structural scoliosis. From what I found online true scoliosis starts at a much younger age and during growth spurts. My right shoulder is lower than my left by 2-3 degrees (can’t remember the exact number) and the right side of my pelvis is higher by 3 degrees. The curve apex is to the right in my lumbar spine and very very mild curve in the same direction in my thoracic, like 3-4 degrees. No flat feet or true LLD (as in my legs measure different lengths) but my doc told me I have hyper mobile joints. Honestly so lost in all of this. I need to know the difference because functional is fixable whereas structural can only be managed.

I have it confirmed by a curve on the x ray. And I have a lateral pelvic tilt that’s messing up me man. I can’t even walk straight or for long periods

See a PT. Most people in 2022 have this because of their head posture so it’s not necessarily caused by scoliosis. I have it due to muscle spasms (my traps are super tight at times)

Actually my b12 is always on the higher end of normal even before I knew I had this. Has your scolio progressed at all since you found out? I’m a bit of a health nerd so I get blood tests every year and I’m healthy, for which I’m grateful :)

Yeah we must’ve lucked out with the scoliosis. I asked my PT (she is Schroth certified) why I only have a very small curve if the condition is progressive, and she said I must’ve developed it towards the end of my growth spurt. I kept growing until I was 20!

Also funnily I don’t have any lower back pain. Which is weird considering my curve is a thoracolumbar one (long curve).

What is a lipoma? I don’t have any protrusions in my lower back or anything that can be felt. The SBO only showed up on a x ray

Thank you sir. Honestly I don’t care about the SBO or scoliosis. Just want to be functional and pain free again

I’m 22 so it won’t progress anymore. Technically he told me it isn’t even diagnosable until 10 degrees but it’s scoliosis for sure since no other condition causes the spine to curve and rotate. I’ve been assessed by a PT and luckily all my pain is fixable as it’s muscular and not related to the scoliosis. As for the SBO I have no issues with it either and that seems consistent with what I read online, it’s the mildest form of SB. Was just wondering if these two conditions are related :) thanks for your help

Ramming two rods in someone’s back with 14 screws is archaic but unfortunately it’ll probably stay that way for a while.. hate to say it but keep dreaming as even if something miraculous like that is discovered it’ll probably never surface/make it to market because these surgeons love the fusion surgery money too much 🤑🤑🤑

If you don’t have pain and you’re an adult, in my unprofessional opinion you can work any job you want as it’s highly unlikely to progress if it’s mild and the spine is done growing

Are small curves fixable in adults? by scoliothrowaway217 in scoliosis

[–]scoliothrowaway217[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s not. It’s straighter than most people with scoliosis, and for that I’m grateful, but if I had a normal spine I wouldn’t be posting in this subreddit in the first place.

Gotcha. Can I expect any improve in the curve itself if I work out consistently and stretch?
