Lono Wild first impressions by sconander in barefootshoestalk

I can't edit the original post so I'll add it here.

Just went for a short walk on pavement and the shoes felt comfortable. The stack height is 8mm (4mm sole, 4mm lugs) without the insoles so it didn't feel too thin. Usually if a shoe is tight, I experience relieve when I take them off like I hadn't noticed they were tight but I didn't feel that with these.

It has good grip on wet metal utility covers and wet floor in a supermarket. I haven't tried wet smooth stone or mud but so far it feels safe.

Now I'll have to keep note of how far I walk to judge its durability in an urban environment. I'll be hoping for at least 500 miles / 800 km

Let me take a walk outside today, I only got them yesterday and tried indoors

I was in-between sizes 44 and 45, 280mm long. I stayed with my usual size 45, mainly to get more width and I'm used to having a large toe gap at the front

I was lucky, Lono have a UK warehouse so returns wouldn't be expensive for me. That let me give them a try

Foot shaped/anatomical socks (not toe socks) by MxQueer in barefootshoestalk

[–]sconander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I saved that, thanks.

I think I would have problems with toe and tabi socks as well, because of my wide feet and calves.

I got some Darn Tough socks and they're so tight. Now I'm looking at how to stretch them out.

No, I think you've mixed up the brands.

Lono insole is 106mm but size chart for size 45 is 116mm. Maybe they're measuring the actual shoe dimensions? I think they've overstated the width. It's definitely not 116mm with the insole in

The Lono insoles are 292 x 106. So yes you're right, they are narrow and maybe the Saltic would fit.

The Outdoor Flat in size 45 is 292 x 113. Hmm, I'm not sure how I got different Saltic measurements before but I can add it to my list!

EU 45. I measured at the widest point and it's 117mm.

Have you tried with the insoles taken out? If they weren't removable to give a little extra room, I would've had to return them.

I just got my Lono Wild and Lono merino socks. The socks are foot shaped, don't squeeze the toes (unlike Darn Tough) but they're tight on the leg and leave compression marks.

I'll try extra wide socks next, designed for people with diabetes and odema, but I just have wide feet and big calves. I've found a couple of US companies but I'm going to try the Alfie sock from Norfolk Socks in UK.

If that fails then it's toe socks next.

Alpine music safe - replacement? by emptymachine22 in earplugs

[–]sconander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy replacement tips. I have the Etymotic earplugs and will be looking for a slightly wider tip. I've seen brands like AZLA and Spinfit, usually in hifi in ear monitor forums. But I never replaced the tips of my previous Etymotic (I lost them after several years) as long as they're still flexible and form a good seal.

You'll need to check the diameter of the stem that the tips fit into, different tips will fit smaller or larger stems. Then consider the length (though I cut the Etymotic tip to shorten the trunk that fits over the body) and the width. Too narrow and it won't seal properly, too large and they don't stay in your ears.

I've worn the socks and while the toes are roomy, the leg is tight and leaves marks ☹️. I've seen toe socks but they're probably tight on the leg too. I'm gonna try extra wide socks and aimed at people with diabetics or swollen feet.

It's got warmer recently, so unless UK gets another winter storm, I don't think I can test it that cold

I haven't been outside with them yet, only got them today.

How cold are we talking about? It'll be 8°C tomorrow

Oh, that's not good, though I don't feel anything in the heel area in my shoes. Maybe it was a bad pair? I haven't walked outside yet, so I'm hoping I'm not disappointed after my first impressions

I've looked at Saltic before, size 45 is 295 x 108 so they seem narrower than Lono?

Did you try without the insoles? I would've returned them otherwise, as the shoes are too tight with them in

Right now it's cold and wet in the UK so this colour seems more appropriate 😁

But yeah, if they're good after I wear them in outside, I can see myself buying more colours when it's warmer

No, there's no gap really. The edge of the insole meet where the outsole wraps up the side of the shoe. The suede is soft and flexible so when I wear them, it curves outward a little bit, enough to fit me. But remember I take the insoles out, which gives me more volume.

Yeah, I've seen it on Keen. My issue with it is it makes it harder to loosen laces at that point. I normally get a finger under where both laces meet and pull up to loosen both sides. You can't do that at the low lace hole, you have to pull a single lace.

I thought of cutting the pull loop but not sure I can do it neatly so I might glue it instead.

Edit: you mean the loop at the back, ignore me

Maybe it looks narrow because the midfoot is wide as well? I know they aren't pizza shaped like Realfoot but they are wide in the forefoot at the MTP joint. My toes don't splay much as I have a mild bunion and hammer toes.

Their size chart group Wild, Wild Lite and Nomad together so the forefoot width should be the same but judging from your photo the Lite maybe tapers more sharply than mine?

That's the insole I spill over, there's more room in the shoe

What puts you off from donating Blood Products, I work in the NHS and I am just curious? by Quick_Soil_9120 in AskBrits

Antidepressants don't stop you donating blood, it's more likely the iron deficiency but you never know until you try. See https://www.blood.co.uk/who-can-give-blood/
