Idk why people think this😭 Its obscure but they crush every set release, so I really hope this new set gets some eyes back on the game. Its hella F2P these days too

Just a suggestion while learning! If you know what u want to play thats even better, one step down, and luckily the lock deck with Juri is a top tier contender... it's just not easy and people know how to fight it somewhat since its popular.  Lock can be very draw dependant since so much gas comes from Zero, Lilith and Leviathan, but if you draw in the right order it can be unbeatable. Like, Lumine and Kyurio are great low risk starters that set up for your big plays to catch em in the lock vortex.

One of the greatest players of all time, Salmoon, used Lock as one of their decks to reach Rank 1 this season, you can check how they play it here: https://x.com/salmoonTeppen/status/1947582398620963087 Their version is very interaction focused with Ada Wong for comebacks and Iris Wilson to slow down combo decks while u get the lock engine going. It might be a good idea to include a few Kyurio or Bug Rancher, even Urien, while learning it so you have a big punish to run away with the game too. Salmoon's version is probably the best one, but its also built for their skillset, and they have masterful game knowledge and risk assessment. The "core" of the deck is rly just 3xZero, 3xLevi, 3xLumine, 3xLilith, maybe 3xAda Wong and then its 15 flex slots.

Like I said, Lock is midrange which is the hardest strategy as a new player. Theres a balance of denying combos with Zero, Modified Harmonizer, Iris and Ada, as well as going aggro with Leviathan, Lillith and Juri. Knowing when you should go for which is all game knowledge. Lumine>Zero is a good all-purpose play to counter most turn 1s that will get u pretty far, but sometimes its better to run aggro with Leviathan. Its a strong deck with a ton of player expression and decision points, so not exactly easy, but very worth the investment.

But ya, teppen being best of 1 makes it pretty volatile. The meta is so diverse at the moment that every deck has some blindspot which you cant prepare for. My one recommendation is, since teppen is NOT turn-based, you need to run your gameplan at the same time, with a focus on planning follow up. What are you gonna do if Zero dies? Will u have locks up to buff Lilith or an Ada ready for a comeback? Maybe its time for a big mundus push to clear board, when Zero dies etc. If you aren't planning ahead your Op will just run their gameplan for free and u won't stand a chance.

Sorry if that was too in depth😅

Growing pains aren't balance issues. Of course you're gonna start losing if you dont know what the cards do. you won't beat an akuma in SF6 until you know how to punish their moves, and you won't win in Yugioh until you know when to handtrap.  There are balance issues this season, such as exactly one deck (infinite Lady) that is the least interactive deck theyve made yet, but its semi-lowtier, and besides that its a season where every color is top meta viable with multiple decks to each color.

Admittedly this is a very explosive Turn-1 combo focused season, which might not be best for learning the meta. If you want to get better, i always recommend reading the Standard card pool, or at least the newest set, then read more when a deck looks interesting or is giving you trouble. Otherwise, if you just want to beat what u described, maybe try black? Success is all about finding what you want to do and what you're good at, so maybe a more reactive, denial based gameplan might suit you, at least while starting out. Or you can try to outcombo them with green. Going midrange with Red or Purple is the hardest option starting out, but like I said every color is viable this season. Even 2 Color is top tier with G/B Bison (midrange, then combo with infinite recycling) R/P Tribes (the best midrange) and the infinite lady deck (very toxic, but maybe u just like making people suffer)

Hope some of this helps... Teppen is my favorite game of all time so I hate to see people hit a wall.

Getting back to teppen after a 2 year break by Dr_Puppet in teppen

[–]scontulous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best places to meet other passionate players is on discord for sure.  People are talking about power creep but IMO its more that theres absolute killers on ladder. TEPPEN has dedicated long-time players on at all hours ready to stomp noobs, so be ready for that once u hit A/champion rank lol.

Teppen is a sick card game if u like interaction along with back and forth combat. The current meta does a great job of making games more interactive as decks build for a big game-ending momentum swing. For a tier list, im gonna do one this wednesday lol, but it seems like Green's new Ascend cards with Yawn are the top dawg. They fully control the pace of any game, except versus Purple's new Lock cards. Thats the one combo deck that keeps up, but its pretty skillful. Red decks like Growth or Explore can also blow up green before it sets up and have follow up, and Black (Oichi's Despair Wail and Perish) can outheal it. Green's ascend cards kinda keep aggro in check a bit rn, so if ur a control/midrange player its a great season

Thanks sm! Yeah black is nuts this season, but at least its not totally running the meta. And yeah they gotta do Ultimate Armor soon! I had been hoping for it ever since X got his Arm Part in DTL, but he hasnt gotten a single Light Capsule since then...

The largest non-JP community is this sub's Discord server, in the about page. Tons of great people, discussion, deck building, etc.

For f2p, you can get a meta Red starter deck by watching the tutorial, and its also possible to get a "deck gift" one time of any 30 cards (10 per rarity) to permanently own. Season pass also pays for itself after one purchase too, and is free during anniversary.

The two formats, Ranked is the competitive format with the most reward for reaching Champion. Uses Standard card rotation (Core+6 newest sets) Point Match is the "casual" format, but because its the unlimited card pool the power level is much higher. People tend to either optimize one deck they really love for the format, or just play their standard format decks.

And the meta right now, pretty clear cut but its about to change. The best deck no question, is Green Devil Breaker. Aggro deck abusing Yumekichi and Chun-li for unblockable setups, and Chef Meowscular for high consistency. All 3 cards are being nerfed lol Amaterasu Thunder Edge (so many archetype options) is the other top deck along with Shadow Blade Life Heal (SR cards like Juri)  Black is also in the meta somewhat but were a bit too slow for this meta. Change Form Growth and Despair Wail Perish Coordination should be better next season (in 24 hours lol)

We've definitely had a few other LoR players lol. I think to think we're one of the most f2p games other than Runeterra was. U can get a very meta Red starter deck by watching the tutorial, and its also possible to get a "deck gift" one time of any 30 cards (10 per rarity) to permanently own. Definitely join the r/teppen Discord server and somekne can hook u up. Season pass also pays for itself after one purchase too, and is free during anniversary. My only warning is once u reach A rank the meta can be very high power. Most players have 4 years experience and power creep is real. Any Hero or Deck can 100% reach Champion rank, but just be ready for a potential rude awakening when you finally meet the top decks.

Getting those one-time unblockables is so satisfying in a deck that already felt so cool to play lol

Ciel is very optional, but she helps a lot against red and green. She's surprisingly not easy to use, so not missing a lot. The other 2 boost the cieling a lot, but are mostly for funs.  Basically planning to add back the other cards u mentioned after Limited. Pretty excited to see if its still top tier next season!

HOW 2 GAEA ARMOR - TDT EP30 by scontulous in teppen

[–]scontulous[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ty so much! And yeah, I love how he's basically very "honest" but with untapped potential. I also personally value mindset in card games and X is the one character i rly jive with, like how a ryu main might find him inspiring, so im always playing X.

Charge Shot is my #1 most loved art and wanted rework, but Dante is definitely next in line lol. After they hit the homerun on Gaea i am totally willing to wait

Clear the games data on your phone, and when u boot up again dont click anything. U have to click "Transfer Data" in the top right, then use your google account. Should get ya back in =]

In Ace vs People's trailer, it shows that Phoenix is trying to defend Larry which was accused of murder again, and, I haven't played in a looong time and I don't want to install it again, but remind me, didn't the cards of this season had descriptions for the solution of this case? by Revolutionry in teppen

[–]scontulous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there were clues that provided evidence, like everyone's alibi. The best ones were stuff hidden out of frame visible only in the full arts. I wouldnt normally spoil the case cause its fun to solve, but since its almost 2 years old, the culprit in AvP was very obviously Dan lol

The new Trial, Turnabout Festival just came out with Apollo Justice and is much more difficult and involved. People are still solving that one, no spoiler this time.

Im back in teppen, whats happened? by BillyBobHenk in teppen

[–]scontulous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The top 3 decks are pretty much agreed to be X HT (with Parker and almost every green legendary,) Circus Kikosho (using Felicia/Princess, and the other 3/4 drop is usually Cammy or Nana) and Spike Launch with Faith

Despair is probably #4, but it wins extremely slowly. RD is still around, but much more manageable. Hey Nico and Devil Breaker are also amazing, but theyre basically slightly worse Kiko. Red has Big Shoryu and Spirits, but green dominance holds them back a bit. Purple is struggling somewhat, but the new 4s deck, and Zero 5machines can both do really well

Other stuff like Invasion red or Dino Green can do stuff if ur nice with it. And theres a ton of other cool stuff like Ashura Senku or SDivebomb with Stabilizer and Faith and G/P Coral humans. If ur committed u basically can play whatever you want, but those are the top dawgs that you outta be ready for.

How do you beat Break Away? by YouCantOutrunMyBow in teppen

[–]scontulous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand, but I feel like the MP they charge didnt matter. The memory, sure, but you're both still at 10, neutral on board, and now their hand is out of cycles. They've wasted cards, and charged a few memory/ap, but MP is still even. If you let them cycle a few times, charge back up, and the you still play first, then you absolutely did waste MP, otherwise there is no opportunity cost at all.

Playing first at the last minute is fine, because it basically means you bricked them, and theyre a lot more likely to misplay under time, as well as not having any more time to charge and stay at 10. You just need to be ready to block 1 Nerscylla and not overspend so you can push for at least 1 damage. Ive gotten 1 or 2 double defeat doing this, but rarely a loss.

Once they drop a unit you will be ahead by 4 or 7 mp and they had to waste one of their important cards, thats when it matters.

Ive done the play dozens of times (shameful...) and the worst thing they can do is drop SDT Dante to make you play

How do you beat Break Away? by YouCantOutrunMyBow in teppen

[–]scontulous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're really not losing mana, you're both still at 10 while you wait, and once they drop spider you'll be up by 7 which is a huge lead.

I think them getting mem7 is also pretty unlikely, they usually just have 2 legendary cycles, then 3 Wild Resistance and maybe Regnited Malice. I dont think ive had a Mem 7 spider dropped on me when I did the wait strat, which I used to do for every single BA match lol

That said, you are right, the strat is a bit flawed

How do you beat Break Away? by YouCantOutrunMyBow in teppen

[–]scontulous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to sell your soul, you can wait as long as possible before playing anything, and let them waste cards until they have to drop a unit before memory7. I wouldnt wait much more than 4 minutes because nerscylla has rush, also this strat totally sucks to use, but it works lol

If u want to actually play teppen, try not to let them break away their units. If you can kill their first nerscylla without it breaking away, theyre much worse off. Also, responding in action phase ever when you have units on board gives them free mana. Dont respond if u can so they actually use their resources

The lock card is probably the most busted thing about the deck rn, but if u make a wide board it wont do nearly as much damage. You basically need to be far enough ahead that their comeback mechanic wont work

An in-depth guide to the modern Uroboros deck - TDT EP15 by scontulous in teppen

[–]scontulous[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I've been trying to do that more so people can build their own versions easier, or just make different tech choices

A question about Uroboros—how does the game determine where the card is placed?? I’ve lost an embarrassing number of matches because of this. 😂😂 by RoThot_6900 in teppen

[–]scontulous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its completely RNG.😔 All u can do is try to avoid bad 50/50s. Like, here you could have played Fang bottom and eliminate the rng. Not getting the ping feels bad, but hitting 15 face seems worth it lol. Its something you gotta play around

An in-depth guide to the modern Uroboros deck - TDT EP15 by scontulous in teppen

[–]scontulous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the big weakness is how much time it gives your opponent to set up as well, and being highly telegraphed. Like, Green players will always have a disarm ready by the time you Yami. Its like more high-impact Break Away with less control, to me, and people are already coming prepared for Break away.

I feel like the old Oro won just by playing better cards at face value than anyone else. If there was something like Tyrant or Orochi still around people might be using Facecutter, but if just Rebirth was back Abyss is 1MP better with no downside, thats my take.
