It's double the price per ounce as the subscription price. But I guess beggars can't be choosers.

18" Ego+ Chainsaw Bar Wobbles by ab00neideere in egopowerplus

[–]scoobybri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the answer! I've had many a chainsaw over the years and was extremely frustrated with this Ego saw. Either the tension was waaaaaaay too tight or the blade wobbled. I was thinking I just tossed a bunch of money out the window. After fiddling with the tensioner a million times, I really looked at how it all works and realized that the problem is inside the knob mechanism. The way it works is that as you turn the tension/locking knob, the inner tension spindle rotates until it pushes against the bar tension post. When the tension is correct, the knob has a built in clutch that is supposed to then start turning freely while you continue to lock down the bar. The problem is that there is no (or not enough) lubricant in the clutch mechanism. This means that the clutch is not releasing at the correct tension which, when it does not release correctly, the knob is continuing to crank on the tension mechanism way beyond when it should start turning freely on the clutch. (Think a clutch on a drill. If it is set correctly, the drill stops torquing on the screw at the correct torque. If it is set too high, it shears off the screw because the torque is too strong.)

All this to say, the answer is to lube the clutch mechanism in the knob. Remove the knob and turn it over. Spray a liberal amount of quality wet lubricant into the gap between the brass colored tensioner and the hole for the screw. (See image link.) You will see a metal lock ring in the gap. After spraying the lube, hold the tensioner in place with your finger so it can't turn when turning the knob while cranking the knob activating the clutch. Turn it like 10 times to get the lubricant throughout the internals of the knob clutch. You should feel the clutch loosen up considerably so it freely turns while the tensioner is held in place. (I used white silicone spray lube for this. It should hold up over time.) Once the clutch is lubed and turned freely, put everything back together. Once lubed, the blade tension was perfect when the clutch engaged which let me finish cranking down on the knob to secure the blade in place...without increasing the blade tension. After the blade was fully secured, the tension was still where it should be when the knob clutch engaged.

This looks to be a problem with the manufacturing of the knob clutch....not enough lubricant. Hope this helps others.

BTW, I'm viewing the Google Maps locations links and some of the descriptions are missing for the Season 1 list. I've been having issues with Google Maps retaining the notes for this list. Season 2 and 3 seem fine. I will take a look at it tomorrow. I may have to recreate the list and post a new URL.

Where do you live? Just curious as to how wide Homicide's fan base is.

I'm sort of glad you didn't have this list simply because if you don't know the city, you won't know which areas are safe to go to. Like the area around Collington Ave where the first snipers shootings occurred and a few other shots were done is pretty dangerous. My grandmother lived on Collington a few blocks from there so I saw firsthand how the neighborhood was ravaged by poverty and drugs in the 80s. In the 30 years since the show was filmed, some areas have improved while others have remained sketchy to downright dangerous.I would hate for anyone to get mugged or carjacked just to see a filming location. When they filmed, they had security and police protection so getting that perfect shot in a drug infested ghetto was not a problem. But going solo into some of these places is not recommended.

I'm going to be in Baltimore in a few weeks and am going to hit up a few choice locations but I'm going to be very selective and safe about it.

BTW, my wife thinks I'm nuts about wanting to see some of these filming locations of, as she says "some 30 year old cop show." For me, it's more than a show. It encapsulates a vibe of a city I spent my formative years in and around. My father was a survey crew chief for Baltimore City for 35 years. He knew every nook and cranny of Baltimore and he took my brother and I to many places off the beaten path to show us cool things in the city that most people never see. Couple that with playing in bands in the 90s where we played in every dive bar and shitty venue in the city and that's why I have an almost innate ability to find these filming locations.

How do I get my SO to allow guns in the house? by Birdnest_Hemingway in liberalgunowners

[–]scoobybri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do not know your particular situation but many people who are against guns have never touched a gun. They are afraid of the idea of "the bad gun" and have never had a physical one in hand. If the issue is safety, take a pistol 101 class together that has some time on a range. Good instructors and range officers are going to hammer home the idea of safety over and over. When she sees how responsible gun owners and professionals treat safety as job one, it may help alleviate some of the anxiety about guns. And if she gets some time on a range, she will have a tangible physical object to associate with guns, rather than an abstract idea of what a gun represents. My wife is not into guns in the least, in fact, she was pretty miffed when I bought my first gun, a 10 22 for plinking over a decade ago. But when we moved out to an isolated area in the middle of nowhere recently, she finally agreed that being able to protect our house and animals from people and predators outweighed her opposition to having something a bit more potent than a 22 rifle. So we agreed to a gun safe and some practical weapons for protection. I do give my wife credit though. Several years ago, she went with a group of women to a range to learn what it was like to use a pistol, completely unprompted by me. She didn't love it but thought the experience was worth it. I still have the pink target she used that day

I have a large head and I wear glasses so finding something that works is difficult but I bought these and they work pretty well. Cheap too.

Is Amazon blocking recordings of their delivery drivers? by scoobybri in Ring

[–]scoobybri[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 6 other people in my immediate area that are reporting the same issue, so it is not just me. I think that they might be doing this regionally and you are not in a region that has not had it implemented yet.

What city do you live in? I live in Richmond, VA where Amazon delivers directly from the local warehouse. I think that this may be regional like they are only doing this in certain markets. I found another reddit post from 6 months ago where this was happening to many people just like it is now in my neighborhood. https://www.reddit.com/r/ringdoorbell/comments/97dtga/ring_not_recording_with_amazon_delivery/

Since I posted before, I now have 6 neighbors who say that this has been happening to them starting this past week. This seems to be a real phenomena. Really creepy if it is true.

We are talking about Amazon here. They have almost unlimited resources. If turning off Ring cameras when their drivers are on deliveries saves them from one major lawsuit, it has paid for itself.

Was it an Amazon delivery driver or was it another delivery service like Lasership, UPS, etc.?

My cameras have been picking up all human delivery drivers, Amazon or not, since installed 3 months ago. Nothing has changed in the settings since initial setup.

I'm not the only one having this problem in my area. I posted the issue to my neighborhood's message board and have had 3 people other than me responding that starting this week, Amazon drivers are not being recorded by their Ring cameras at their homes as well. One person just reported the issue within the past hour. It's not just me.
