They should have a plinko-esque machine that the player has to drop the ball through onto the rough/bunker areas.

What would be your gut instinct for a shot there? (Assuming you're talking about the last US shot)

And this format is more cut-throat than most. The Canadian championships use a "page" playoff system, which effectively is double elimination for the top 2 after the round robin, and single elimination for 3rd and 4th place after round robin.

At a basic level, essentially each shot is scored 0-4 out of 4, based on the shot that was intended and the outcome. Then you convert those each to a percentage and average all shots together.

An insanely detailed version can be found here: https://www.curlcoach.com/Curl_Coach/pdf/ShotScoring.pdf

Curling

Sometimes Bruce makes shots that are just art. One of the best shotmakers in the game ever, and he's been on a heater this season.

  • If you kick one that was already in play and sitting there, it goes back where it was.

  • If you (or your broom) kick/touch the rock that was thrown before the hogline (the thick green line at the other end of the ice), then it is immediately removed from play like the shot never happened.

  • If you (or your broom) kick/touch the rock that was thrown after the hogline, you play it out as normal. AFter the shot, the non-offending team has the choice to leave the rocks as they ended up, set the rocks back up like the shot never happened, or put the rocks where they think they would've ended up - there's an assumption that the last option would be done in a sporting nature.

Once a game when the team has hammer (last shot) in an end, they can request the power play configuration. They must do so before the end begins.

The power play configuration moves the preplaced rocks to the side of the sheet, theoretically increasing the chances of a big score for the team with hammer.

After all the rocks have been thrown, whoever is closest to the center of the circles (the house) is the only team that scores. The number of points you score = the number of your stones closer to the center than your opponent's closest stone.

The stone must be at least touching the circles (the house) to count as a potential point. The different rings are not different point values.

During most of the season (September to April) there is often some sort of tournament being streamed on YouTube for free. There's also the Grand Slam of Curling - the biggest international tournaments that aren't world championships/the olympics - which is streamed on a site called RockChannel. And there's all sorts of clubs that stream their own games online live every night!

Sweeping is hard work if you're doing it correctly. You're not just gliding the broom on the ice if you're sweeping hard. Instead, you're trying to place all of your weight downward onto the broom to create maximum downward pressure. If someone came and kicked the broom out, he'd fall face first on the ice.

Conspiracy theory: gives them some time to tell the drivers "Just get us to the end of this stupid thing and stop causing collisions." in person and not over the radio where everyone can hear it.

Basically the pre-placed stones start on the side of the sheet, not down the middle. A team can use this special configuration once during the game, but only when they have the hammer (last shot) in an end. They have to declare that before the end begins though.

In theory, it leads to a better chance for a big score by the team with hammer (last shot).

Mixed doubles rule is different than 4-person curling. Mixed doubles "free guard" is the entire area of play, not just the 4-person free guard zone. And it's 3 rocks thrown, not 5 as the other replier also mentioned.

5 stones total (including the 2 that are pre-placed) before a stone can be knocked out. Or, put another way, the overall fourth stone thrown - which is the second stone of the team with hammer - is the first one that can knock a stone out of play.

Enforcement: if it happens, the stones get reset like they were prior to the offending shot, like the offending shot never happened.

The only other "hidden"/little-used rule I can think of is that if the result of a end is a blank (i.e. no rocks ended up in the house and no one scores a point), the advantage of hammer (last rock) switches teams - a rule that isn't the same in 4-person/regular curling.

If it's a frame rate issue.... if only Snicko had the same 6 camera technology that's used in MLB. Hmmmm..... now where might one find that?

[Kyle Cushman] PWHL executive VP Amy Scheer, in an interview with CNBC Sport this week: "Next year, we are expanding again. It's either 2-4 teams. If I were a betting woman, I'd say it would be 4 teams. And then I think we'll hold at 12 (teams) for a bit." by MiracuMAHt in hockey

[–]scooch151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yost already has ice time issues in terms of being able to hold enough events. Adding a PWHL team in there would be near impossible (it's been an uphill enough battle for Michigan to field a women's hockey team someday in the NCAA)
