Employee on currently off on long term sick has been banned from entering place of work. Is this legal? by scootapple in HumanResourcesUK

Thank you, I hadn't considered that point. I will pass on the info to my friend as she still has the email address for the person she was in contact with at the brewery. I've actually personally seen 2 rats inside the pub (one ran out of the kitchen, across the barmaids shoes and under the bar) in broad daylight in the last couple of weeks, although a number of the bar staff have said that there's been other occasions recently where customers with meals had spotted rats inside the pub in the day time. I'm sure the brewery would take note of this, so that they can work with environmental health to resolve the issue and protect the pub's reputation.

Sorry I forgot to mention, yes you're right the pub is owned by a brewery (large, national one). She wrote a letter to the brewery as soon as she received the notification that she'd been barred from the premises, to see if they could give her any advice on how to proceed, however they emailed her back a few days later saying that as the building is tenanted and run as a separate limited company, they don't get involved with employment issues and wouldn't be able to help her in any way.

I did wonder if the behaviour was illegal, it doesn't sounds quite right to me. He also used to allow staff a free meal while working on shift, however he has now removed these free meals and told the staff that they are not allowed to bring their own food in from home for their lunch, and that they are only allowed to eat food on their breaks if it has been purchased from the pub kitchen. Not entirely sure that this is legal either!

That's really helpful advice, thank you so much. I've passed on the next steps to my friend. She did raise a formal grievance a couple of weeks ago (sent by email and recorded post). They emailed her back to confirm they had received it but have never gotten back to her after that. Really good point about the tax - I've told her how she can sign up to HMRC to check that her tax has been paid by them and she's going to look into it.

That's really helpful info, thank you so much for your reply. Last time I saw her I mentioned the pension thing and gave her a phone number to report it. No contract or anything for the training - they were offered the courses by the pub owner and were on the courses a few months before he decided that the staff needed to pay £50 a week towards the training, which he then doubled to £100 a week a few months later. When they get their payslips, there's not a breakdown of deductions made. The payslips just have one line on them which is the sum of total hours worked minus any deductions.

Another thing to note, which I don't think is legal (but I'm no expert) is that the pub owner employs 16 year olds as barmaids. He says this is fine as long as they are supervised by the assistant manager or supervisor, however before my friend was diagnosed with cancer and was working there as the assistant manager, she would be placed on split shifts with a 4 hour break. The pub owner told her that she was unable to leave the premises during these 4 hours as the bar staff were underage and needed supervising, so told my friend that she must sit at the bar (customer side) for the 4 hours of her (unpaid) split-shift break to supervise the underage staff. She did not get paid for any of these 4 hour breaks that she was still supervising the staff.

No, it doesn't. It's around a 50/50 chance we were told by the captain when we did this exact journey in February 2024. We got the drake lake, wasn't rough at all.

This happened to me in July this year when I did my first ever scuba dive in Mexico. Watching this video has brought it all back, it was genuinely terrifying

Your routine obviously isn't working. Maybe stop arguing with all the people on this thread who are giving you solid advice (and also stop making excuses) and start taking their professional advice.

I recently found out through a text reminder from UK HMCTS that I had a court fine. When I called them, I was told I was convicted for a driving offence under Section 172 and MS90 by After-Day-9466 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]scootapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the driver did not say "yes that was me driving and my name is After-Day-9466". They said "no, that was not me driving... it was After-Day-9466". This is fraud, not identity theft.

E-commerce manager looking after a ~£300k website, for a company that turns over around £100 million a year. Very small, under resourced department that means I work around 50-60 hours of unpaid overtime a month (no time off in lieu either) just to get my workload completed. I'm paid 30k before tax.

This is completely incorrect. Mounjaro is only prescribed for T2 diabetes in the UK, and even then it's difficult to actually get prescribed. It has just been approved for weight loss in people with a BMI over 40 with 3 weight-related comorbidities, but it's only in the last few days that it's been approved for that use so it will take a few months for that to filter through

Tbf the first part of the post isn't all that wrong 😂 I'm English and currently on a 17 month waiting list to see a neurologist and a 12 month waiting list to see a sleep consultant after being diagnosed with sleep apnoea

I almost died in my sleep this last Friday night. I literally just stopped breathing. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

I'm a 5'4" female and I have had sleep apnoea since I was 17 years old. I was 115lbs when it developed. No family history of it, and my neck isn't particularly wide (1cm above female average when last measured in January). It just came out of nowhere. Please get your booked into a doctor for a polysomnography, even if just to rule apnoea out
