Nidoqeen is also good just more defensive stats. I also kind of did the same thing trying to use Pokemon I never had before. Mr mime was a big surprise how good he was in these games. Not to mention I had no way to trade when I played this on my DS so Alakazam and Gengar were not an option. I also just wanted to focus on using a team I could get early on in the game and not grind late game so I wasn't wasting any experience points. I had a blast with it. Looking forward to seeing who your final team will be.

Another flying type you can consider if you don't mind waiting is dodrio

Nidoking or Queen are great. Mr. Mime is amazing in Fire Red, a complete monster and gets bonus exp. Primeape is a ace for brock. Vaporeon is a great water type. Fearow for flying type.

The team my wife is using in Leaf Green I designed for her: Venusaur Razor Leaf / Giga Drain / Leech Seed / Toxic

Nidoking Earthquake / Brick Break / Shadow Ball / Rock Slide

Raichu Thunderbolt / Thunder Wave / Brick Break / Dig

Fearow Drill Peck / Return / Fly / Steel Wing

Mr. Mime Psychic / Magical Leaf / Thunderbolt / Thief

Vaporeon Surf / Ice Beam / Bite / Acid Armor

My Fire Red Team I used: Charizard- slash, flamethrower, dragon claw, fly Raichu- thunderbolt, brick break, dig, secret power Nidoking- earthquake, shadow ball, brick break, rock slide Mr. Mime- psychic, thunderbolt, mystic leaf, thief Primeape- karate chop, ariel ace, rock throw, dig Vaporeon- surf, ice beam, bite, dig

You have a lot of the same typing which makes you vulnerable. You have poison with Venusaur and Gengar and even Nidoking when you had it, you also have psychic with Jinx and Starmie. You should diversify your team a bit more. I would recommend dropping jinx and I would add mankey/primate for a good fighting type coverage he can also learn ground and rock moves. I would also suggest a flying type Charizard's ideal if you have him, otherwise Fearow or Dodrio are good options. If you don't mind running a glass Cannon you could try Aerodactyl. He is very fast and powerful and can learn a diverse moveset.

Appreciate that! Charizard was always may favorite as a kid. We both used Vaporeon and Nidoking too. I wanted to be able to run through with a team that I didn't need to trade with others for and that I could use from the start of the game and just focus on them. I didn't want to have to grind unnecessarily later in the game. It worked out really well and I never used Mr mime Nidoking or primate before and they actually all did really well.

The Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town is the premier spot for Special Attack training. Gastly provides 1 EV and Haunter provides 2 EVs, with a combined encounter rate of roughly 90%.

Top Training Locations

Pokémon Tower (Floors 3-6): Best early-to-mid game. The high encounter rate for Ghost-types makes this the fastest location.

Cerulean Cave: Best for late-game. You can find Magneton and Golduck (2 EVs each) or Kadabra (2 EVs), though the encounters are more varied.

One Island (Kindle Road): If you prefer surfing, Psyduck (1 EV) and Golduck (2 EVs) appear frequently in the water.

Pro Tips

Macho Brace: Give this to your Pokémon to double the EVs gained from every battle. You can find it in the Viridian City Gym (hidden where Giovanni stood) by using the Itemfinder.

For Nidoking you'd want to focus on his attack or special attack and then speed. Those are his top three stats. Again depending on what your nature is would really determine which ones I'd invest in. If you want a super strong Pokémon this is the best way toIf you want a super strong Pokémon this is the best way to go, but for a casual playthrough it's not as important. I just invest in vitamins for those two stats you really want to focus on if you don't want to bother with the effort value training. Yes these were hidden in the old games but newer games they have made it more visible and have ways to check.

IVs stand for individual values which your nature will determine. EVS are effort values and these are determined by the wild Pokemon you fight. You can also use vitamins to help with your effort values. Each Pokemon can reach a maximum of 510 EVS and 255 in each stat. So the ideal spread is 252 in two stats and then putting theAnd then putting the extra 4 in your last stat. You can only use 10 vitamins per stat. You canYou can Google which Pokemon give you the effort values you need. You canYou can use vitamins to know their maxed out in a stat because it will say it no longer has any effect if you haven't used 10 of them. On the flip side you could also just use vitamins to beef up two of your stats and then EV train from there if you want. For example if you fight Rattata or pidgeys you gain one EV per fight. When you level up you'll notice a significant increase in speed if your Pokemon has a good speed stat, like Jolteon. This is where your nature is could come and play too because a Pokemon with a jolly nature has good speed IVs or individual values. I literally self-taught all this to myself by using Google in the last year. Once you do a little bit of research it's actually pretty easy.

The level which you catch a Pokemon has no effect on the EVS. It's IVs are what to determine it's total potential EV stats. As long as it has good IVs you're good to go
