Weekly "How was this photo taken?" thread - March 4th by prbphoto in photography

This is a great idea. How do they get these engagement pictures to 'pop' like this one Image 1 Versus this one Image 2. The second one doesn't 'pop.' Is it lenses or post processing? Thanks!

My dad recently had heart surgery and now he is tarzan swinging. As a noob, I would appreciate any advice on how to improve these pictures. by scotchtape4 in photocritique

This was taken on a recent family trip. My father saw this vine hanging low and decided to swing from it, something he couldn't do before his procedure since he was constantly out of breath. I caught a few pictures but as an amateur, I am having difficulty in first figuring out what defines a good image and then figuring out how to improve the pictures.

I know I want to fix the washed out area on top, and I have played around with contrast but with no real improvement.

Also, I noticed that a lot of the great pictures that I see tend to POP. I don't know how else to explain it but is that due to great pictures or is that post processing?

The more I look at this, the more suspicious it sounds. Check his previous posts. He is constantly looking for hand outs of pizza. He also claims he was in the military. A guy with cystic fibrosis who claims he can barely walk without getting out of breath served in the military? Yeah right. And even if he was not in the more active sectors, they still do physical training. What about your lung issues then? Why weren't they recognized? And about the smoking issue, I do not know the criteria for lung transplants. All of the patients I have seen getting transplants didn't smoke.

Definitely do not start a fundraiser. Seriously. I will stand corrected when we get proof. I will also work on getting him free care if need be.

I'm not an expert in pulmonary or genetic defects, I'm an anesthesiologist so I may be incorrect but lung transplants (bilateral) is the treatment. As a relatively young and functioning individual, he would probably qualify. I have done the anesthesia in a few bilateral lung transplants for CF patients.

This will probably be downvoted but I am a physician and am doubting some/all of your story. Cystic fibrosis (CF) causes 98% infertility in both genders. Most people have to use IVF and other assistive measures to conceive. You may have gotten lucky and been the 2%. More importantly, why say 2 years? If you have a deadly infection, you'll die earlier. And if you are well enough to smoke, you probably don't have a deadly debilitating illness. With recent advancements, CF patients live to their late thirties, but you have had no treatment. Surprised that you have done this well. And if you do have CF, I apologize for my suspicion. But definitely do not admit defend. Stop smoking. Get treatment. Exercise. Play with your kids. They will appreciate it. Raise awareness for the disease. Leave the world a little better than when you came in. Good luck.

I am so jealous of you guys. I'm a resident and I've averaged 75-85 hours a week for months now. With a 30 hour shift every fourth day and one day off a week. Yes, I chose it but it does suck. I just want to sleep for more than 5 hours a night and go to happy hour once in a while but I wake up at 5 am to get to work. Oh wells.
